Transportation Enhancement Funding Eligible Activities Option 2: Pedestrian & bicycle safety and education activities Campaigns promoting awareness Safety training activities and classes Training materials Bicycle and pedestrian enforcement activities Unlike the other 11 options, does not require pre-application activities Funding 80/20 split (20% financial commitment from the Borough) Not a grant; a reimbursement program Donations of local services and materials can be consider part of the match 5
Timeline Application due December 22 nd at 5pm Within a month s time PennDOT staff will verify costs and the CCMPO TE Review Committee will meet to review the applications On January 25, 2011 candidate project applicants will be asked to deliver a presentation to provide additional information (10 min max) followed by a question and answer period March 2011, the Coordinating Committee will consider approval of projects for FFY s 2012-2014 Project Kickoff (2-4 months from submission data) 6
Changes in Project/Cancellation All changes in the scope of work for the increases in federal funding must have the written approval of PennDOT prior to proceeding with the work. At any time in the project development process, a project sponsor my decide to cancel the project and drop out of the program 7
Philly Bicycle Ambassador Program Who: An Educational Outreach Program of The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, sponsored by the City of Philadelphia What: Encourages adult bicyclists to ride more often and ride more safely. When: The program has been in effect since 2009 How: Why: The program utilizes an interactive website and volunteers to educate motorists and cyclists on the rules of the road, bike path etiquette, bicycle maintenance, and basic bicycle riding skills. Ambassadors Program claims its success relies on the face-to-face interaction between Bicycle Ambassadors and their targeted audience which allows for an organic conversation targeting the specific interests, questions, and needs of each individual. 8
