Tigers Boys Basketball Scoreboard Trans. 8th 19 SPA Blue 13 Trans. 6th 34 St. John 22 T I G E R S BOYS BASKETBA L L NEWS 8th/7th Grade In their first win of the year, the 7/8 th grade boys basketball team defeated St. Paul Academy. It was a fantastic game where teamwork was in fierce form. Defense played hard and really made SPA earn their points as the Tigers were rebounding machines. Their arms up strategy proved effective and you could see the fire in the Tigers eyes. They wanted this win! Offensively, everyone took shots and passed to teammates. **** This is what led to an exciting game and a win for the Tigers. Look on page 3 for a team picture. 6th Grade Tigers Boys Basketball Upcoming Games 01/24 Trans. 6th Away at 4pm 01/23 Trans 8th Home at 4pm The 6th grade boys basketball team had a busy and exciting weekend playing in the Transfiguration Basketball Tournament. On Friday, the boys played two games. The first game was against Blessed Trinity. They started the tournament out very strong, fighting hard until the end. However, after giving it their all in overtime, we lost this game by only one basket. For the second game later in the evening, they played New Life Academy. The first 20 minutes were fast paced as the boys and the other team took turns running up and down the court making baskets, keeping the score close, but ultimately we did not defeat New Life Academy. On Saturday the boys played their third and final game against St. Ambrose, but again were defeated. Overall, the boys showed great improvements rebounding, passing, dribbling, and shooting while playing together as a team. It was a great experience for the team. Monday s game against St. John s was a huge victory. Not only did we win the game, but we did so as a team! Every single player gave it their all and played tight, aggressive defense to shut down St. John s offense. We kept momentum, moved the ball up and down the court together, creating open shots for one another, all leading to our win! They still are developing their skills, but are looking better each game. 8th Grade Tournament On 01/18 & 19 Winter Sports Picture Day is 01/31. Please make sure players are here after school in their jerseys and have their forms available. It helps with a smooth process.

Hard court and very small environment is not how the 2-1 Lady Tigers are used to play The ball they chose had 900 lbs of pressure said Addie Teeters and we run spread and trap as she was working the bike to keep her quads loose. The Tigers started out slow and Rhiannon O Neill almost broke the metal backboard on a running layup. The Lady Tigers refocused and started to take over. At halftime after a tough start the Lady Tigers led by defense was 18-2. Focus on faith, family, and free throws said retired coach Scott Johnson who decided not to sit on the 90 degree bench and lay out on the stage above gym floor. In the end the Lady Tigers took over, once again balance scoring was the key as they won 42-17 and moved to 3-1 with a date with 4-0 and only undefeated St Ambrose (McMenomy 10, O Neill 8, Johnson 8, Preiner 6, Geelhoed 4, Teeters 4, Buffalo 2) Buffalo 11 rebounds, Teeters 5 steals, Preiner/Johnson 4 Steals.. Lady Tigers head to first home game of Mt Tabor Hall Monday vs. 4-0 St Ambrose and a chance to tie for first place in the brutal East Side 7 th Grade League Dateline: Mt Tabor Hall: Opening Night for Lady Tigers. With Whoop There it Is cranked in pregame the Tigers and St Ambrose girls took the court amidst a sold out crowd at Mt Tabor. Had to get my tickets out front said Tom Preiner (retired post office employee along with Rich VanWinkle a St Ambrose Alum. But after the rafters were packed both teams took the court and something had to give. St Ambrose at 4-0 and Tigers at 3-1, both came out with the tunes a rockin. St Ambrose started with a 7-0 run before Preiner dropped a 3 from the right side and McMenomy dropped a layup 8 mins into the game At 7-5 it became a ballgame and the Tigers would finish with a 17-5 run after being down and finish the halftime at 17-13. Nothing would be easy in this one as Mable from St Ambrose would steer her team back. McMenomy guarding # 77 and Preiner/Johnson working the defense from the front let Geelhoed, O Neill, Buffalo to dominate back side boards and keep it going. In the end the Tigers left with a crazy 31-30 win over their Border Rival Coach has said don t stop, don t deliver, and don t love to your border rival said Rhiannon O Neill who played guard, forward and center in the game. At the end an emotional Coach Johnson said sky s the limit for this team, just happy to retire and still be asked back 87% of the time to help on the bench. (Preiner 11, Johnson 8, McMenomy 8, Geelhoed 2, O Neill 2) Tigers 31, St Ambrose 30. Tigers move to 4-1 and tied for first. Next Up: Immaculate Conception Tournament at White Castle Coliseum for Tournament: Jan 18-20 th. NOTE: Our beloved Hill Murray Team returns to Mt Tabor at 4pm Monday, Jan 21 st. Transfiguration Catholic School Athletic Director Watch for volunteering opportunities. During the Winter sports season we will need help with the scoreboard. We will be in need of help with not just the scoreboard and score book, but also Admissions and Concessions. Go to Sign Up Genius to see the dates, time slots for volunteering help. Be aware that coaches, assistant coaches and volunteers need to be current with the VIRTUS training. Any student athlete that wants to play on more than one team in the same season can explore that option, just be aware of the chance of more time conflicts. Anyone can join the Tiger Pride Booster Club at any time during the year. It is a fun group and the money they raise selling concessions helps with the school sports teams. Over the next several weeks we will needs a lot of help at basketball games. Both regular season CAA games and at the tournaments we host. On 01/18 & 19 we are hosting the 8th grade level tournament. On April 6 the Black & Gold celebration will take place in the school gym. It is a fun time for all. The HIGHLIIGHT of the evening (in my opinion) is the new inductee into the Transfiguration Athletic Hal of Fame.

Swim Team We have had three practices and it has been great to see all of our swimmers smiling faces back in the pool to kick off the new season. Our new swimmers are going through evaluations to be placed in the correct practice group and we are already seeing improvements with all of them. This year we have three new swimmers from Transfiguration, Allyson, Dylan and Mitchell; and 24 new swimmers in total from our five schools. The Swiminators is a joint team consisting of Presentation, St. Jerome, St. Jude of the Lake, St. Peter and Transfiguration with many wonder volunteer parent coaches and returning Swiminator Alumni who student coach with us. If anyone still wants to try competitive swimming, you can still submit and athletic registration form and try 2 or 3 practices to see if your athlete likes it before paying the fee-just talk to Jim Weingartz or Bob Kirchberg. Practice schedule at the White Bear Lake YMCA: Friday's: 6:15-7:45 pm (no practice Jan 18, Feb 1, or March 15) Sunday's: 10:45 am to 12:15 pm (no practice on Jan 27th or March 3rd for the swim meet) Meets coming up.
