It s part of a five week series specially designed for kids to experience the wonder of following Jesus in a new and unexpected way that they re gonna love. You can watch the full weekly episodes for this series on the Crossroads Kids Club youtube channel or crossroadskidsclub.net. Here s this week s big idea: What you fight for matters, so stand up and fight for the right things.
Part 1 (Large Group) Main Goal: Introduce and discuss today s BIG IDEA: What you fight for matters, so stand up and fight for what s right. Supplies: None Video: Kids Club On Location / Week 4 (Find the video at crossroadskidsclub.net/ weekend) Time: 15 minutes *Start large group 10 minutes into the service. INTRO: KIDS CLUB ROME Welcome: Hi everybody, welcome to Kids Club! We re doing a really special new series created just for you. It s unlike anything we ve done before: Kids Club actually went to Rome all the way across the world and filmed all kinds of cool stuff to show you! Say: Today, we re talking about this BIG IDEA: What you fight for matters, so stand up and fight for what s right. Say: Let s check out a video and see how this big idea is really, REALLY important for every single person who wants to follow Jesus. Video: Kids Club Rome / Week 4 Teaching (10 minutes) Ask: Did anyone have a favorite part from that video? (Let a few kids respond.) What was the main idea that they talked about? Say: Yep, that we all have things worth fighting for. Sometimes we might have something to lose, like the gladiators fighting in the coliseum. And sometimes, we re like the people cheering from the sidelines, and we need to stand up and fight for others. Say: Let s take some time to compete in a game, just like those gladiators competed! This game is MUCH safer though! *Start the 10-minute timer for the next part of the lesson.
Part 2 (Game Time) Main Goal: Play a game to help kids understand today s big idea. Supplies: Balloons (4/group) A phone to use as a timer Video: 10-minute countdown timer Time: 10 minutes BALLOON GAMES Supplies and Set up: Split kids into small groups. Give each small group 4 balloons (these will need to be blown up for the game) The goal of the game: Kids on each team will compete against each other to see who can keep two balloons in the air for 1 whole minute! Have up to 4 players compete at a time, while the rest of the group watches (and cheers them on!) Each small group leader will need to use their phone as a 1-minute timer. Pick 4 kids, and give them each 1 balloon. On your mark, they have to try to and keep hitting the balloons up in the air without ever letting them touch the ground! For very small groups, or for an extra challenge to fill up more time: Have kids go 1 or 2 at a time Have kids compete and play rock-paper-scissors, or do thumb or arm wrestling matches! *Start the 10-minute timer for the next part of the lesson.
Part 3 (Cool Down Time) Main Goal: Do an activity to help kids understand today s big idea. ICEBREAKER QUESTION Go around the group and ask each kid this question: What s your favorite game to play? Supplies: DEBRIEF THE GAME Ask: What kinds of games and competitions did people like to watch in ancient Rome? Ask: Do we have anything similar to that today? What games and events do lots of people go to, or get entertained by? Say: Whether you were living in ancient Rome thousands of years ago, or you re a kid living today, we all have things that we should stand up and fight for. What you fight for matters, so stand up and fight for the right things. Video: 10-minute countdown timer Time: 10 minutes
Part 4 (Large Group) Main Goal: Give kids a chance to respond to what they ve heard today, and worship! Supplies: Video: Music Video: The Brave Ones (https://youtu.be/ru5qhplhf9s?li st=plactllefmk_kfyu1v4xf1b j8wuj-fhwpg) Music Video: Be Strong (https://www.youtube.com/watc h?v=gzfmgfre c) Time: 15 minutes *The 10-second countdown video is to help kids refocus and transition back into Large Group. These timers will become a permanent part of lessons, and include a funny clip at the end! *Play the 10-second countdown video to help kids refocus as they get back into one large group. WHAT WE FIGHT FOR MATTERS Say: Let s all think about what we ve heard today: What you fight for matters, so stand up and fight for the right things. So...what should we actually fight for? What things should we stand up for when we choose to follow Jesus? (Let several kids answer and discuss as a group.) Say: We re going to watch a music video right now, and take some time to digest what it means to stand up for things that really matter. You can stay seated for this, and get comfortable! Music Video: The Brave Ones Say: When we stand up for things, like following Jesus and worshipping God, can we do that by ONLY staying quiet, and never really speaking up about it? (Let kids respond.) Why? (Let kids think about WHY it s important to stand up for things that matter, and not just keep it to yourself. Say: It s like that said at the beginning of the video: When you get an incredible gift or experience something really cool, you don t stay silent about it, do you? No! You tell others about it, and share your excitement! And that s what we can do with Jesus. Pray: God, you know it can be hard sometimes to stand up for the things that really matter, like following Jesus and showing love. Please help us to do that this week, and fill us with excitement about following you! Say: Now is the perfect time to seek Jesus first and give all our attention to him: through worship! You can stay seated, stand, or move apart and find another spot in the room. Music Video: Be Strong
Part 5 (Small Groups) Main Goal: Discuss today s story and how it applies to kids lives through questions and a hands-on activity. Supplies: Coliseum template (1/kid) Markers Scissors (1 set/group) Scotch tape (1 roll for each 4 kids) Time: 10-15 minutes (or until parents pick up) Tip: You can ask the review questions at the beginning of Small Group, or DURING the activity. *Keep kids in small group until parent pickup. PRAY Pray together as a group. (If a volunteer wants to pray, let them go for it! You can also ask kids for specific things that they would like prayer for.) EXTRA TIME? Give kids maze and word-search activity sheets to work on until their parents pick them up. RESPOND TO THE STORY What was your favorite part of the Rome video we watched today? What are some things that you really care about? What things did Jesus care about? When we care about something, should stand up for it and tell others about it? What are your favorite ways to show Jesus you love him? MAKE IT PERSONAL Give each kid a coliseum template, scissors, markers, and tape. On the back of the template have kids write one important thing they want to stand up for in their life (these answers can be based off the conversation your group just had). To help get them going, ask them questions like: What s important to you? What s important to Jesus? What would Jesus want us to fight for? WHO would Jesus want us to fight for? (They can write down or draw pictures of as many answers as they want. If they re too young to write, just have them draw their answers.) Let them cut out, color and decorate the coliseum template. Then, have them tape it together into a circular shape. Pinch the sides to make it more of an oval shape, like the real coliseum!
