Bronc Notes - Inside the 2006-07 Season - UTPA sophomore Alex Robinson was selected as the team captain by head coach Tom Schuberth prior to the first game of the season. He became the first sophomore in program history to be named a team captain. - Dexter Shankle returns to the lineup for the Broncs for his junior season after leading UTPA in scoring with an 11.0 points per game average during his sophomore campaign. - Johnathan Chatman only played in 13 games last season, but will be looked upon to play a bigger role for the new-look Broncs. Chatman averaged 8.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists during his junior season. - Last season, Larry Sheppard was the only player in the lineup to appear in the starting rotation in all 31 games. He was ranked first among all NCAA Division I Independent players in steals per game with a 2.3 average and was listed third in assists per game with a 4.6 average. - Lien was the only Bronc to receive post-season Independent honors as he was selected to the honorable mention All-Independent squad. Lien helped Southeastern Community College score a national title in 2003-04 where Burrell helped Paris Junior College to a title during the 2004-05 campaign. - Last season, Lien ranked seventh among all NCAA Division I Independent players in rebounds per game with an average of 6.2 boards per contest. - Junior Zach Trader was recognized for his efforts in the classroom as the then-sophomore was selected as a member of the Academic All- Independent squad and earned honorable mention NCAA Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association Scholar-Athlete accolades. - Trader also produced on the court where he averaged 7.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game and also ranked 10th among all NCAA Division I Independent players in free throw percentage with a 77.0 mark. - Kano Edwards was one of two players to see action in all 31 games last season for the Broncs as he averaged 9.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game. The UTPA senior ranked seventh among all NCAA Division I Independent players in blocks per game last season. - UTPA newcomer Julius Allgood was a NJCAA All-American honorable mention selection following the 2005-06 season at Southern Union State Community College. - Allgood was also selected as the Alabama Community College Conference South Player of the Year where he ranked first in the conference in field goals made, field goal attempts and field goal percentage and was second in total rebounds, third in total points and rebounding average and fifth in scoring average. - Stoll sat out last season with Lansing Community College allowing him to finish up his degree, but the prior season, the he led the Stars to an 18-8 record where he averaged 14.3 points and 5.3 assists per game and led all Region XII players in free throw percentage with an 89.0 mark. - Danny Puente received a lot of playing time and experience during his sophomore campaign where he set career-highs in 19 statistical categories, including scoring, rebounding, assists and steals. - The Broncs graduated one senior from last season s team in Derrick East - who averaged 7.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game that season. - The Broncs will have plenty of new faces on the sidelines this season with an entire new coaching staff in assistant coaches Ben Johnson, Brad Enright and Lance Madison along with graduate manager Darren Johnson and administrative assistant Grant Leonard. - Last season, the Broncs recorded a 5-8 record at the UTPA Fieldhouse, but will look to improve on that record with 13 home games scheduled.
