NEWSLETTER OF THE LAYBACK LONGBOARDERS ISSUE 47 JANUARY FEBRUARY 2018 the laybacker Dear Members and Guests, Time to gather the Laybacker threads so far developed in the growing tapestry of 2018 you know what I mean! Already the start of Autumn, beautiful warm days and consistent swell, rather than beautiful hot days and Huey doing a bit of hide and seek with the waves! (yes I know, Scotty and Dale believe that too many surfs are barely enough - but no one likes hearing about how often they surf.) The Great STOMP Fest came and lo, the toes twinkled, and it was good wave wise there had been better, but the standard of surfing was of the highest standard, and the comp was run superbly as usual. Bill s roundup is below. And then there was the first pointscore of the year - according to Corey (who surprised himself by becoming a hungry comp hassler ) some of the best waves for a while. One I missed due to a trip to the airport, but the report is also below. Wonderful pics as usual from Dave of both events too. inside STOMP 2018 February Pointscore ALL PHOTOS BY AG UNLESS OTHERWISE CREDITED So, without further ado, please to enjoy the following record of the STOMP and the February PS (pics to follow).! Hoo Roo for now - Andy THE STOMP 2018 It was 17 years in succession for the STOMP Club to host the NSW Old Mal titles, which, as most comps have included in recent years, had the addition of the Logs in the Open and Over 40s divisions. The STOMP was set up to promote sportsmanship, encourage competitors to come with a friendly vibe and appreciation of others and their efforts, and leave the egos at home, or don t bother coming to our events! Every year without exception this ethic has ruled, and we retain roughly 90% of competitors returning each year, with a few new guys coming occasionally. The standard this year was the highest ever, especially in the Open Old and Open Log divisions. The surf was small but fortunately light variable winds all day, made the surf very contestable and the way the open competitors surfed was outstanding. We had some of the very best surfers not only from NSW, but Australia - just check out the final results, with equally good surfers who did not make it through the semis. Thank you to all the loyal outstanding helpers who give up their day once again, and do every year - Stan from Canberra, Baz, Greg, Brian Bull, Kev, Andrew, Jarrett, Dale, and Scotty. Great to see Steve Vickery back helping doing the tallying all day for us, and our lovely ladies in the food tent all day - Deb and Dianne. Tyse let us use his coffee machine, George brought the PA and helped out also, plus guys who came early to help set up and most of our local competitors contributed in some way during the day. Dave Milnes donated two of his great framed photos for give away prizes, along with Lara who donated one of her beautiful handmade board covers also - thankyou both for your kind generosity and support. As hosts of these STOMP NSW Titles I feel very humbled that our low key event attracts such quality competitors as people, and with their surfing ability for us to marvel at just how good they are, and the standard they compete at. The highlight of the day, was at the Presso, when Andrew Farrow and his lovely wife Patrice were presented with our STOMP award for outstanding support and generosity over many years of this event, and the Layback Classic also, along with a gift voucher from the Lagoon Restaurant. This was presented by Dale on behalf of the STOMP and Layback Clubs. To me, this is what longboarding, but particularly old mal surfing is all about - being appreciative of other s efforts, caring and trying to support others when they need it most, not forgetting the giving people ever! Hope to see you all next year at the STOMP, thank you again to everyone who contributed in any way! Kind regards, Billy. The Dark Lord awakes! Some say due to Jarret s t shirt design. 2 of 7

EDITORS NOTE! I thought I had pics all ready to go, but can t find them at the present moment.they will follow in the next edition (so I can get this ####### out ) FEBRUARY POINTSCORE Report by Dale Hi everyone! What a great way to start the year with great waves and a chilled vibe at the first point score. There were some stand out heats with the last heat of the Old Mal's being one of the best. A warm welcome to the new members who I hope enjoyed the club spirit and camaraderie. A big thanks to Mark for keeping us all fed, and at only $2 a feed! The boys on the BBQ - Mark and Peter did a great job. Baz and Andrew Farrow and other helpers tallying all day long was greatly appreciated. While all these guys did an amazing job, we need others to put their hands up to take turns in sharing the load each month. Another thank you to Lara for taking on the job of washing and drying of rashies, and yet again another one of those tasks that we need others to take a turn in doing. Thanks to Andrew Wilson for doing the sign on and Ian for spending time sorting out the registrations. On this note, all rego's have to be paid up by the next point score (no exceptions). For those of you who are on Instagram you can now follow the Laybacklongboarders. A big thanks to Aiden for creating the account. Well I hope everyone had a good day and enjoyed themselves, as I know I did! Catch ya's at the next point score. Pres McCombie McCombie 7 of 7
