Old North State Posse Chronicle 2010 End of Year Update Old North State Posse 2010 Activities For Old North State Posse, the second half of the 2010 year continued to be a very active time for the club. The following is a recap of the major activities which the ONSP team tackled during the second half of 2010. Many of the ONSP club members were involved in supporting a very successful 2010 NC State Championship which was the major club effort in the second half of 2010. Thanks to all who helped it is much appreciated and we hope that all continue to find ways to assist. It was good to see the very good participation by the ONSP membership this year in the actual match. The club continues to work with the North Carolina Cowboys, Inc. to refine our support for the annual NC State Championship match, The Uprising at Swearing Creek. ONSP works to stay engaged with the North Carolina Cowboys, Inc. members to ensure that the ONSP owned facilities and equipment are ready to support the annual state match. As usual, there are ONSP members that are also active North Carolina Cowboys, Inc. members. The North Carolina Cowboys, Inc. provides some compensation for the use of the ONSP club equipment so we need to make sure everything is ready for the annual match. We seemed to have it covered pretty well in 2010 with a number of our ONSP club members helping with the match setup on Tuesday and Wed., running side matches and helping clean up the range and putting the ONSP equipment away on Sunday. Thanks for the help!! The ONSP club members made their presence well known in the 2010 NC State Championship. The following ONSP members won category awards: Marshall Harland Wolff NC State Champion Cowboy and Top Cowboy Overall Sixgun Sallie Top Gun Lady Shoot-off Winner Marshall Harland Wolff Top Gun Men Shoot-off Winner Dirty Dog Alf Buckaroo State Champion Hugh Damwright B-Western State Champion Buck Sage Cowboy State Champion Rocky River Jeb Elder Statesman State Champion Frontiersman Capt. Jeb Forest State Champion Green Eyed Indian Grand Dame State Champion Sixgun Sallie Ladies 49er State Champion Myra Venge Ladies Duelist State Champion River Rat Randy Silver Senior State Champion Marshall Harland Wolff Wrangler State Champion There were many others that placed at award levels in the available categories.

We also had an ONSP member that won a world championship at the 2010 EOT congratulations Sixgun Sallie as the Ladies 49er Champion! Outstanding accomplishments for the ONSP membership in 2010!! This does not include all of the other regional (Gunfight at Givhans Ferry and Mason Dixon) and other state match honors that the talented ONSP group took home in 2010. Red River Ray in particular did very well at some of these larger matches including the US Open win. See if I can do a better job next year of keeping up with this well traveled group. We have continued with upgrades to the ONSP target inventory. With the most generous assistance of Sisco Ron and Train Wreck Tim, we have added some new steel that has increased our target inventory and allowed us to retire some older targets that were showing the effects of years of use. These efforts have positioned the ONSP target inventory to support club activities for the foreseeable future. A most sincere thanks to both of these cowboys for this help! As a result of the successful target inventory upgrade, we were close to collapsing the target storage shelves in the equipment shed. The old shelves were replaced during the NC State Match making for much safer and easier target storage handling. This was a much needed upgrade that we had been talking about for a couple of years none of us wanted to move all that steel. Thanks to the help of a number of our club members to help us get this project done during the actual match so it was ready to use when the match tear down took place at the end of the match. We did some electrical work in the equipment shed so we now have an electrical outlet inside the shed. This allows us to run chargers for cordless power tools and lock up the shed and tools when needed during some of the work days. We continued cleaning up the prop storage areas keeping the green stuff cut down and getting rid of props that are no longer useable. The train care refurbishment project made major progress. The train car construction work was completed and new paint applied. Some temporary repairs were made to the engine for use in the NC State Match. Everything was ready for the NC State Match. This work uncovered that new roofing was needed on the train cars. We are looking at affordable options for new roofing. Hugh Damwright continues to keep the ONSP web site updated. He reactivated the cowboy profile function this year. If you would like to have your photo and info included, please contact Hugh Damwright. In addition, Hugh Damwright has also been instrumental in helping keep the ONSP scoring software updated and in synch with the needs of the NC State Match. We have a number of broken shotgun targets that have been removed from the equipment shed and will be repaired and put back into service. We managed to dodge most of the weather in the second half of the year to get in 5 successful monthly matches plus the NC State Match. We did end the ONSP Dec. match on a white note.

The ONSP Annual Membership Meeting The ONSP annual membership meeting was held at Baylee s Steakhouse and Sports Bar near the RCWA range on the afternoon and evening of the regular ONSP December match which finished up in a nice snow flurry. The weather curtailed our turn out a bit. The following were the major meeting activities: The major ONSP activities, as covered in this newsletter, for 2010 were reviewed and discussed. In addition, a discussion about outstanding ONSP needs and projects was held. Those needs and projects are discussed in the plans for 2011. As always, we have more things we would like to do than we have funds to accomplish so we will need to set some priorities and look for some creative solutions. Next, the year long ONSP Shoot for the Loot competition results were announced and recognized with nice cowboy awards. Participation by all ONSP members resulted in a very competitive event over the first 10 months of 2010. The following Shoot for the Loot awards were handed out: Buckaroo Dirty Dog Alf B-Western Hugh Damwright (Overall Club Champion!!) Cowboy Nunn Faster Classic Cowboy Cherokee Maddog 49er Dingo Dave B-Western Hugh Damwright Duelist Oklahoma Charlie Elder Statesman Splinter Hauser Frontier Cartridge Cowboy Joe Danby Frontiersman Capt. Jeb Forest Gunfighter AR Stoner Ladies Cowgirl Calamity Allie Ladies Duelist Myra Venge Ladies 49er Sixgun Sallie Ladies Gunfighter Lucy Ladies Wrangler Colorado Aspen Ladies Silver Senior Green Eyed Indian Senior Flat Iron Senior Duelist Papa Chet Silver Senior Rocky River Jeb Wrangler Buck Sage Wild West Jake Mountain The overall ONSP club Shoot for the Loot Champion for 2010 was Hugh Damwright!! Congratulations Hugh Damwright this effort included 4 clean shoots (77 total points). AR Stoner (75 total points) and Tracker Mike (67 total points) were 2 nd and 3 rd respectively in the overall competition.

Subsequently, the annual ONSP membership meeting was held to allow input and direction from the membership for the coming year. The floor was opened for nominations for any of the other ONSP Board of Directors positions there were no new nominations and a motion was made and seconded to re-elect the existing members for another year. So the following are the ONSP Board of Directors for the start of 2011. President: Oklahoma Charlie Vice President: Sisco Ron Treasurer: Joe Danby Secretary: Tracker Mike Board Member: Rocky River Jeb Alternate: Ktown Alternate: AR Stoner The Shoot for the Loot program was discussed and it was decided to run the program again in 2011. As was the case last year, everyone who becomes an ONSP member for 2011 will automatically be included in the competition. It is a fun venue for those that like to focus on shooting accurately and are at the match every month. If you are not familiar with the program, there is a detailed rules description on the ONSP web site. The competition starts with the Jan. match and includes all ONSP matches held in 2011. The 2011 Shoot for the Loot awards will be made in Jan. 2012 instead of after the Dec. match so the Dec. match(s) will be included. You can join ONSP at any time during the year and we can go pick up any of your previous monthly match results so they get included. With the various awards and club business out of the way, a fine meal was enjoyed by all those present. Old North State Posse Plans for First Half of 2011 So what are some of the areas that we would like to address in the first half of 2011 and beyond? As usual we have a list of things we think that we need to eventually address. As you will notice, there are plenty of opportunities for club members to participate in some of the activities that it takes to keep ONSP operating effectively. Just get in touch with a Board of Director member if you see an activity with which you would like to assist.

The ONSP membership feels very strongly that we need to continue our efforts around both recruiting new folks to cowboy action shooting and helping new participants get started. The following will be the focus for 2011. o Holding a new cowboy action shooter orientation session(s). We have a session scheduled for 27 March (Sunday) at 1pm at RCWA. If we have enough interest, we may hold a second one 23 Oct. o Making sure we have a good process at monthly matches to identify potential new participants that drop by and watch. Please take the time to welcome visitors and be willing to answer any questions they may have. Make them feel welcome. We now have handouts available at each match - make sure they are offered a copy. o Make sure we identify new cowboy action shooters at each match and o that we have good coaches assigned for their first match or two. We continue to try to update the ONSP web site info to try to better identify what new cowboy action shooters should expect and how to get ready to participate. Ktown has scheduled an RO I class for Jan 15 th at RCWA. The details are on the Carolina Cowboys board. Remember that if you already have RO certification that you can sit in for a refresh at no charge. ONSP will continue to work with the North Carolina Cowboys, Inc. to support the annual NC State Championship match, The Uprising at Swearing Creek, and help to make this a successful event in 2011 June 2-4. o This will include a work day or two to get the props and equipment ready. Keep an eye open for a notice on the workday. ONSP will continue running a full set of fun monthly matches. Remember the following schedule of events for 2011: o The NC State Championship match will occur on the ONSP June monthly match date. This will be June 2-4. o After the December monthly match, the annual ONSP membership meeting for electing your Board of Directors for the next year and deciding on club direction/priorities will take place. Details on location and time will be provided closer to that event. Please plan on attending your input for the next year is needed and appreciated. o Monthly match opportunities: We are always looking for help with target setup on Friday afternoon before our monthly matches. They usually get together around 4 to 4:30 at the range. Would someone like to learn how to use our scoring software to do monthly match registration and scoring? Always looking for some more participants. See Tracker Mike if interested. Would someone like to try their hand at writing the stages for a monthly match? Just remember that if you write stages, you will need to be available to set them up on Friday afternoon or review them with someone who will be at the Friday setup.

The maintenance of the grounds immediately around the ONSP equipment shed is the responsibility of ONSP. This requires some monthly maintenance to keep the green stuff under control. Some assistance with this effort would be appreciated you just need some weed eater skills. The liberal use of Roundup this past year has helped make this an easier task. We need additional shelter capacity for prop storage. We have started acquiring some of the materials to extend the shelter on the back of the equipment shed. This will require a work day or two for this to progress. With most of our target inventory needs addressed, we are going to look at adding some new and different target stands. Hopefully this will allow us to provide some different target scenarios. We will continue to look for some opportunities to add some new props to the ONSP inventory and repair some of the existing stuff. Probably will schedule some repair work as part of the preparations for the NC State Championship. o We will focus on getting new roofs on the train cars. That should complete the train car renovation efforts. o We plan to add some light weight fence and/or hitching post props. There o are some new plastic fence options that are simulated wood. We are going to try some new light weight store front props. Steel frames with fabric graphics produced by Six String Jimmy. This effort got put on the back burner last year when the train car refurbishment got underway. Just not time to do both. o We would like to create some new horse props on which we could mount some saddles for use in that shooting from horseback experience. We have a new supply of ONSP badges now available. As usual, these are sold at the club s cost - $50. See Joe Danby or Tracker Mike if you would like an ONSP badge.

From the ONSP Board of Directors, we would like to thank all of the ONSP membership and those non-members as well who have provided their support to make this a successful 2010 for ONSP!! It takes the help of all of the membership to make the operation of ONSP a sustainable and successful process. Again the ONSP Board does appreciate the feedback from the membership on what is working and what is not working.
