Contact: Lea Williams Fri., April 10 --- at Utah Invitational, Sat., April 11 --- at Weber State Invitational, Utah State s outdoor track & field teams will continue its season this weekend as it competes at the Utah Spring Classic on Friday, April 10 and at the Weber State Invitational on Saturday, April 11. --- at Stanford Invitational --- at Sacramento State Invitational --- at San Francisco State Invitational Utah State s men and women s track and field teams excelled in a large and talented field of athletes by capturing 22 top-five finishes, along with seven individual event titles at the Stanford Invitational, Sacramento State Mondo Mid-Major Challenge, as well as the San Francisco State Distance Carnival last weekend. At the Stanford Invitational, USU s men s 4x400m relay team (Parker Bluth, Tanner Hunt, Cole Lambourne, Clay Lambourne) broke the school record with a time of 3:09.21 to finish second overall. The previous record time of 3:09.64 was set in 1998. Aggie individual event winners at the Stanford Invitational included senior Adela Hoffmanova, who won the seventh section of the 1,500m (4:25.94), which ranks fifth all-time in school history, while sophomore Colby Wilson won the second section of the 3,000m steeplechase (8:47.67). Aggie individual event winners at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge included senior Eric Shellhorn winning the 1,500m with a time of 3:48.63, while freshman Kelsey Yamauchi won the women s 1,500m (4:34.12). Senior Chari Hawkins won the high jump with a leap of (1.72m/5-07.75), while sophomore Mia Estes won the javelin with a throw of 44.65m (146-06) and junior Kevin Allen won the discus with a toss of (54.56m/179-03). Junior Tom Derr led the distance runners at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival by winning his section in the 5,000m with a time of 30:13.57, as well as placing fifth overall. Freshman Jordan Beutler won his section in the 1,500m (3:51.72), while fellow freshman Dustin Randall also won his section of the 1,500m recording a time of 3:58.64 and freshman Caroline Weiler placed sixth with a personal-best time of 4:33.45 in the 1,500m. Other top-five finishers at the Stanford Invitational were Hawkins, who finished fifth in the long jump (5.96m/19-06.50), while senior Melanie Heslop captured fifth in the hammer throw (55.55m/182-03). Junior Parker Bluth took third in the 100m (10.50), junior Cole Lambourne placed second in the 400m with a time of 46.30, which ranks second all-time in school history, and sophomore Devin Wright finished second in the javelin with a throw of (59.59m/195-06). Other top-five finishers on the men s side at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge included freshman Jordan Beutler, who placed second in the 800m (1:51.51) and senior Daniel Mosman, who finished fourth with a time of 53.27. Heslop led a host of Aggie women who also finished in the top five at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge by placing second in the hammer throw (57.17m/187-07). Hawkins took third in the 100m hurdles (14.25), Hofmannova finished third in the 800m (2:09.92) and freshman Stephanie Crapse took fourth in javelin (40.76m/133-09). Additionally, junior Maci Bingham placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 48.95m (160-07). Utah State gymnastics (11-15, 2-7) concluded its season with a fifthplace team finish at the NCAA Regional Championships in Berkeley, Calif., with a 195.150 (vault: 48.900, bars: 48.575, beam: 48.850, floor: 48.825). Senior Sarah Landes took seventh in the all-around with a 39.175 (vault: 9.775, bars: 9.800, beam: 9.800, floor: 9.800). Juniors Miranda Kerr and Jillian Chappel tied for 20th on vault with a 9.825. Landes and sophomore Bailey McIntire tied for 14th on bars with a 9.800. Junior JoAnna Cuba tied for sixth on beam with a 9.825, while Landes took 10th with a 9.800. McIntire scored a 9.825 on floor to tie for 13th. SOFTBALL... USU will begin the week at CSU with a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 7 at 2 p.m., followed by a single game on Wednesday, April 8 at 1 p.m. USU will then host FS in a three-game series over the weekend. The two teams will play single games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 10-12 at 3 p.m., 4 p.m., and 12 p.m., respectively. L, 2-13 (5) --- BYU W, 9-8--- UNLV L, 12-14--- UNLV L, 6-8 --- UNLV Utah State posted a 1-3 record last week as it fell to BYU at home (13-2) in a non-conference game and notched a 1-2 Mountain West home record against UNLV (W 9-8, L 14-12, L 8-6). Offensively, the Aggies were led by senior outfielder Hailey Froton who hit.615 on the week with eight hits, four runs and six runs batted in. The team tallied a season-best 17 hits in Thursday s win over the Rebels. Defensively, sophomore first baseman Paxton Provost led the team with 31 putouts between the four games. Four Aggie pitchers saw time over the week with freshman Paige Mills making her first career start in Friday s game against the Rebels. Junior Noelle Johnson led the pitching staff with a 5.88 ERA, going 1-1 overall. L, 3-4 --- at New Mexico L, 1-6 --- at Air Force Utah State lost a pair of Mountain West road matches last week at No. 49 New Mexico (4-3) and at Air Force (6-1). Against the Lobos, USU took the doubles point as junior Kallie Sperry and freshman Meghan Lyall won at the second position (7-6), while sophomores Lexi Turley and Nini Guensler won at the third position (6-3). In singles, senior McKenzie Davis won at the No. 1 spot (6-1, 4-6, 4-4, retired) and Guensler won at the No. 2 spot (6-2, 5-7, 7-6). Against the Falcons, USU lost the doubles point, but Davis and freshman Maggie O Meara won at the first position (6-3). In singles, Davis won at the No. 1 spot (4-6, 6-3, 6-2). Last Competition 7th/8 --- at Cal Poly Match Play Championships Utah State placed seventh out of eight teams last week at the Cal Poly hosted Match Play Championships as it lost to CSU Bakersfield (3.0-2.0) and Weber State (3.5-1.5), before defeating Hawai i (4.0-1.0). In its seventh-place match against Hawai i, senior Grahm Schmaltz posted a 4&3 win against Scott Yamashita; junior Seokwon Jeon recorded a 6&5 win against Ryan Kuroiwa; sophomore McCoy Willey suffered a 1 up loss to Justin Chu; junior Reed Platke notched a 1 up win against Brian Lee; and sophomore Eli Rogers had a 2 up win against Adrian Lee. In its consolation match against Weber State on Monday, Schmaltz halved his match with Devon Purser; Jeon lost his match against Luke Crapo, 4&3; Willey posted a 4&2 win against Colton Dallimore; Platke lost to Michael Johnson, 3&2; and Rogers lost his match to Lee Shepherd, 3&2. In the opening round loss to CSU Bakersfield on Monday, Schmaltz won his match against Tristan Stone, 4&3; Jeon lost his match to Jim Park, 1 up; Willey lost his match to Travis Millwee, 1 up; Platke lost his match to Nathan Green, 3&1; and Rogers won his match against Teo Chiesa, 1 up. Against the Falcons, USU won the doubles point as sophomore Jack Swindells and freshman Jaime Barajas won at the second position (6-3) and senior Marcus Fritz and sophomore Dennis Baumgartner won at the third position (6-3). In singles, Baumgartner won at the No. 1 spot (6-1, 7-5), sophomore Karan Salwan won at the No. 2 spot (6-2, 6-4), Fritz won at the No. 3 spot (6-2, 6-0), Swindells won at the No. 4 spot (6-0, 6-4), Barajas won at the No. 5 spot (6-2, 6-3) and sophomore Sebastian Schneider won at the No. 6 spot (6-2, 6-0).
