First XVIII Match Report Rostrevor vs. PAC Rostrevor 4-4 (28) def by PAC 10-6 (66) Goals: T Matsis 2, A Lochowiak, B Jarvis 1 Players: C Taheny, J Shute, W Fraser, B Jarvis, H Swanbury Despite the result, I was extremely proud of how the players toughed the game against Prince Alfred out. We were on the back foot early when the Prince Alfred onballers dominated the centre square with a more aggressive approach and held sway by 12 points at quarter time. I felt if we could get an early goal in the second quarter we could fight our way back, but it was the opposition who scored a couple of goals and things looked ominous. We did work our way into it then and got one back to gather some momentum but a late goal to PAC meant we went in about 4 goals down. We did have a lot of chances but just couldn t nail a goal in the third. I felt we evened the game after about the 10-minute mark of the second quarter in general play, but Prince Alfred were a little smoother going forward and hurt us on the scoreboard. Once again, the last quarter was even but the damage had been done. Cameron Taheny was outstanding all game for us in defence and a little further up the ground. Josh Shute was excellent too, on the ball with Wyatt Fraser in ruck, making a strong contest on all occasions. Ben Jarvis presented all day and did compete well, although some of his delivery didn t make it all that easy for him. I also thought Hayden Swanbury toiled well against a quality player and his opponent did get a bit better service from the Prince Alfred players. We did have several more cameo efforts from players who chipped in with good moments but overall, we didn t sustain enough good footy to make the difference. We must butter up on Tuesday now against Henley to give ourselves a crack at Prince Alfred again for the knock out final. Another day, another challenge and I believe the boys will be up for the game. Ron Fuller Coach First XVIII

First XVIII Match Report Rostrevor vs. Henley High (State Knockout Semi-Final) Rostrevor 7-8 (50) def by Henley 9-4 (58) Goals: C Taheny 3, S Lanzoni, J Simon, B PalmerO Connell, A Lochowiak 1 Players: C Taheny, J Shute, B Jarvis, W Fraser, D Carbone With the weekend result against Prince Alfred fresh in our mind we needed to bounce back and confront Henley in the knock out semi. Unfortunately, despite having a strong emphasis on a fast start, we found ourselves on the back foot early on again. We did get ourselves into a quandary late into the third quarter, but I didn t think we were playing that badly. Our effort was there but we did make some very elementary errors that hurt us on the scoreboard. We missed a couple of chances and Henley took theirs. As bad as the scoreboard looked, I kept feeling we could find a way and we nearly did. We peppered the goals in the last quarter but came up short by 8 points, despite having a couple of more scoring shots. Cam Taheny, who has had a marvellous last month, single handily took control of our forwards and nearly won the game on his own. He had 6 or 7 shots on goal in the last quarter in a devastating burst of quality football, but we came up just short on the siren. His efforts along with Josh Shute and Ben Jarvis led the way. They epitomised the spirit we have shown all season and never ever gave up. Wyatt Fraser was lion-hearted again and Daniel Carbone continued his improvement to play well also. Once again many of our team showed they have exciting futures. It was a disappointing end to a gratifying season, but it did tell us we need to be more consistent in a lot of areas in our game, to bridge the small gap between us and the top teams. I would like to thank all involved however, for a personally enjoyable football year. We have a lot to build on. Ron Fuller Coach First XVIII
