The CO2 asoren onainer should e filled wih CO2 asoren. To fill he CO2 asoren onainer, unsrew he onainer from he lid and fill i wih CO2 asoren. Plae he filled CO2 asoren onainer arefully over he meal ues oming from he lid and srew he glass onainer on o he lid. Be sure ha he filled CO2 asoren onainer is firmly losed o he lid; leakage will resul in pressure loss of he sysem in he irui and herefore inorre funioning of he UMV! 4. Priniples of he UNO Mirovenilaor-3 The onep of he UMV and he posiion of he UMV in a se-up wih flowmeer and vaporizer are given on page 7. The venilaion paern of he UMV is ased on he naural, sponaneous respiraory paern of mie and ra, i.e. a SINUS-form wihou a plaeau. The sinus-form venilaion paern prevens high peak pressure in he lungs of he arge animals, ofen seen wih valve operaed venilaors. The UMV produes a sinus-form pulse for he mehanial venilaion of he animal. The UMV is oh frequeny and volume onrolled, as well as minimum- and maximum pressure onrolled. The volume, pressure and frequeny seings are dependen on he arge animal and size of he arge animal, u also on size of he inuaion ue used! The UMV has he following haraerisis: # Tidal volume seing a he venilaor.ml - 24ml (wihou ouner pressure) # Volume wih ouner pressure and endoraheal inuaion ue 2.ml - 2ml # Frequeny 25-225 / min # Pressure seings (minimum and maximum) mar up # Exernal P.E.E.P. possile # Inspiraion o expiraion raio : (Sinus form) # irle sysem wih CO2 asorion yes In order o avoid any misundersanding, please oserve he following general remarks: Beause of he very small inernal diameer of he inuaion ue for ra and mie, he (pre-) se volume on he UMV may have no any relaion wih he idal volume of he animal. Apar from he animal s own airway pressure we fae a very high resisane eause of he very small inernal diameer of he inuaion ue used for ra and mie. Therefore he (pre-) se volume is no more (u also no less) han he gas volume delivered o he irle of he sysem. The same an e said aou he pressure. The maximum pressure as well as he minimum pressure is no more han he pressure readings in he irle of he sysem. The pressure indued in he lungs of mie and ra is differen from he pressure readings on he pressure meer of he UMV. The volume seing on he UMV is no he same as he idal volume of he animal eause of ouner pressure and high resisane resuling from he very small inernal diameer of he inuaion ue. 2 Depending on he size of he ue s inernal diameer. Following are some imporan underlying elemens relaed o he seing of he volume and pressure of he UMV.. In order o e ale o perform he praial / es seings, he UMV should e plaed in a seup wih flowmeer (and vaporizer). Furher a es lung (as an opion availale) wih he insered inuaion ue has o e onneed o he male luer onneion (iem 3). 2. Wih he pressure seing (iem 5) he mean pressure is eing (pre-) se. The mean pressure level (mar) an e (pre-) se or heked as follows: Se he gas flow of he flowmeer a he required oal oupu level (= L/min). This should e done preferaly wih ompressed air or as an alernaive O2. Do no mix his gas flow ye wih N2O or he anaeshei gas, as his will e hazardous o he user. A he given gas flow from he flowmeer, you an read on he pressure meer (in iem 4) he mean pressure se. A hange (= urn) of he pressure seing (iem 5) will resul in a hange of he mean pressure, whih an e seen on he pressure reader (in iem 4). As you may oserve on he pressure meer (in iem 4), he mean pressure an very easily e hanged a he required level. The mean pressure an e ompared wih he zero-ax of he sinus graph. 3. Wih he volume seing (iem 3), he volume an e (pre-) se. Inrease or derease he volume hrough urning of he volume seing (iem 3) o + or, while here is pressure on he UMV. The (pre-) se volume in he UMV an e seen hrough he volume indiaion window (iem ) as a numer ( 24). Swih he UMV on (iem ). You will noie ha he pulse produed, will move he needle of he pressure meer around he mean pressure, and also will hange he volume in he es lung! The volume an e se a any level eween and 24 (depending on he volume of he inuaion ue used) on he volume indiaion window (iem ). This volume seing an e ompared wih he ampliude of he sinus graph. 4. In order o (pre-) se a P.E.E.P, he volume seing (iem 3) should e urned o + unil he minimum pressure reading (on he pressure meer in iem 4) is > a he required mar level. If he new maximum pressure (on he pressure meer in iem 4) is oo high, redue he volume, and if neessary adjus he pressure again o pressure and volume levels you need! 5. Please noe again ha he levels of volume and pressure delivered o he animal are dependen on he used inuaion ue. Volume measuremen a he end of he inuaion ue in a mouse or ra is only done in speial es se-ups and is no a sandard feaure. 6. Venilaion and inhalaion anaeshesia of ra and mouse need a erain level of experiene and good oservaion of he animal. 7. The UMV is equipped wih a so-alled zero-valve, prevening pressure levels elow (i.e. negaive pressures) in he sysem. As also menioned under paragraph 3.d, he ue on he used- or exessive gas oule ue onneor (iem 7) has o e plaed in a gas-exhaus sysem in suh a way ha no under- or overpressure will e reaed in his gas oule ue. 8. The frequeny an e adjused hrough hanging (lokwise=+ or ani-lokwise=-) he frequeny seing (iem 2) o he required level. 9.
