A new bicycle highway along the To s in a jiffy by bike In September 2018, we will start work on the F28, the bicycle highway along the, which will eventually connect Willebroek with s. This project is intended to make the bicycle a fully-fledged alternative for commuter traffic, and to encourage people to use their bike as much as possible. The first section of the route will start at the N211 in, running to in. At the regional level, connections are planned to cycle routes going to Antwerp and Boom. In future, cyclists on the F28 will also be able to quickly switch to the Rapid train.

A safe and comfortable bicycle highway The current cycle path along the N276 is intersected in various places by the driveways of adjoining houses and side streets. As this leads to unsafe situations, it was decided to build a new bicycle highway on the west side of the road. With a separate, 4-metre wide cycle path, the F28 will become a comfortable, high quality and safe bicycle highway. Basic concept N276 6m60 min. 2m 4m existing noise barrier Plantentuin The existing noise barrier will shield the new bicycle highway from the. A green verge at least 2 metres wide will ensure safe protection from the N276. In addition suitable lighting will be installed, so that it is also safe to cycle at night. The trees currently standing in the area will be retained as much as possible. Where this is not possible, new trees will be planted in their place. The works will start in the south. That way, we will work over a distance of about 3 km further north. The existing cycle path on the east side of the road will be retained between and the. This will become a cyclist and pedestrian zone. This section is scheduled to be completed by July 2019. When the interchange is rebuilt, we will extend the bicycle highway in the south to the Romeinse Steenweg.

Diversion As an entire lane will be out of service during the work, traffic will need to be temporarily diverted. Diversion A During phases 0, 1A, 2 and 3, from September 2018 to March 2019, traffic on the (N276) will only be possible from s (south) to (north). People needing to travel in the opposite direction (north to south), will be diverted via the (N211), the, the (N277) and the (N277). Progression of the works Before De Werkvennootschap can start work, the public utilities will also be working to renew the distribution lines. From 6 August until 30 September 2018 This will be the case on the section of the (N276) between the (N211) and the pedestrian and cyclist bridge on the Van Dievoetlaan, on the side of the houses with even house numbers. Work will also be carried out at the same time on the section between the and the on the side of the houses. In addition, local adjustments will be made at the and the. Phase 0 25 September 2018 8 October 2018 From 25 September, we will start preparing the construction area for the works. This means that the roadside will be cleared and vegetation removed. Phase 1A 9 October 2018 27 November 2018 In phase 1A, we will start construction of the cycle bridge over the Maalbeek and the retaining structure. Public utilities will also be carrying out work during this time. They will be renewing utility lines on the (N276) between the Private Dreef and the Sint- Martinuslaan, on the side of the. In the subsequent phases the contractor of De Werkvennootschap will carry out drainage work and road works for the construction of the bicycle highway. You can see the various phases and locations of works on the phasing map. Naturally, we will keep you informed about the start of each phase via a digital newsletter, to which you can subscribe via the website werkenaandering.be/f28. V.U. Wouter Casteels, p/a. Botanic Tower, Sint-Lazaruslaan 4-10, 1210 Any questions regarding accessibility? From 6 August, we will activate the Werken aan de Ring accessibility telephone. During office hours (9.00am to 5.00pm) you can call the following number for all accessibility-related questions: 0473 68 10 38. We will also answer your questions sent by e-mail to F28@werkenaandering.be. The construction of the F28 is part of the broader Work on the Ring programme. With this project, De Werkvennootschap is fully committed to a liveable and workable environment in the municipalities around the Ring around s, to smoother and safer traffic, to mobility that is consciously based on a safe combination of bicycle, public transport and car, on a Ring that connects rather than divides.
