If you ve got a favorite story about your experiences at any of the 24 Series, Mic Stump wants to talk to you. Mic is planning to write a book about the Series and he wants to include you and your best memories of 24 years of great baseball He ll be working with Hobbs President Tom Giffen on the literary project. It s those stories and lies you tell each year when we get together, he said. And he wants it to be open ended adding to it each year to chronicle one of the greatest experiences of my life. He ll take the stories, edit them and then check with and get releases for folks mentioned. Mic, 61, is manger of the Washington Titans (as in Washington state not the District of Columbia, he s quick to say). He also plays catcher and first base. He s a just retired social worker, so he ll have plenty of time to devote to his project. He cites an incident in his career that s an example of some see MIC STUMP on page 2
2 Mic Stump continued from page 1 of the stories he s hoping will come his way. A newspaper sports writer credited him with hitting an off-thewall blast in a game to bring in three runs. That caused him to get a ribbing from some of the other players since they knew he was not a power hitter..a single was more his style. I was congratulated on winning the World Series, he recalled. So, just for the fun of it, he called the writer and threatened to sue for defamation of character. He says don t worry about the length of your story it can be two pages or one paragraph. Perhaps you have a great memory of a certain game or of a player on your team. Just call Mic at 253-224-2868 or email him at michaelcstump.pi@ gmail.com. While there will be details to complete, the plan is to have individual player registration prior to the 2013 Roy Hobbs World Series. The goal is to have 28-38 potential players, and our database indicates there are enough players in that range continuing to play the worlds greatest team game. We plan to recruit two managers and have a group workout on Sunday afternoon, followed by a Social event during which two teams will be drafted. The two teams will then play a 5-game series, Monday-Thru-Friday. If one team dominates and wins the first 3 games, we will re-draft for games 4 & 5. -- Tom Giffen 7 TIMELESS STANDINGS Team W L PCT RA RA4 1 South Dakota Rushmores 5 0 1.000 22 13 2 Western Silver Foxes 4 1 0.800 18 6 3 New England Red Sox 3 2 0.600 48 26 4 Tri-Cities 3 2 0.600 47 28 5 American National Wildcats 3 2 0.600 45 29 6 Minnesota Saints 2 3 0.400 52 34 7 Washington Nationals 1 5 0.167 42 32 8 Boston Braves 2 3 0.400 47 30 9 Jersey Cardinals 0 5 0.000 76 56 Notes: Teams ranked by record, runs allowed in best 4 games, and...
