Substance/preparation and company identification Use: chemical Na-t.-Butylate Company: BASF Aktiengesellschaft Unternehmensbereich Anorganika E-CAA 67056 Ludwigshafen Telephone: 0621-60-76416 Telefax number: 0621-60-76318 E-mail address: claudia.kraeh@basf-ag.de Emergency information: Fire brigade BASF Ludwigshafen Telephone: 0621-60-43333 Telefax number: 0621-60-92664 2. Composition/information on ingredients Chemical nature 2-Propanol, 2-methyl-, sodium salt CAS Number: 865-48-5 EG-Number: 212-741-9 3. Hazard identification Highly flammable. Reacts violently with water. Causes burns. 4. First-aid measures General advice: Immediately remove contaminated clothing. If danger of loss of consciousness, place patient in recovery position and transport accordingly. Apply artificial respiration if necessary. First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety.

{%PAGE=96%} Page: 2/7 If inhaled: Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention. On skin contact: Immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings, consult a skin specialist. On contact with eyes: Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist. On ingestion: Immediately rinse mouth and then drink plenty of water, do not induce vomiting, seek medical attention. 5. Fire-fighting measures Suitable extinguishing media: sand, dry extinguishing media Unsuitable extinguishing media for safety reasons: water Special protective equipment: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing. Further information: Collect separately contaminated extinguishing water, do not allow to reach sewage or effluent systems. 6. Accidental release measures Personal precautions: Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Use breathing apparatus if exposed to vapours/dust/aerosol. Environmental precautions: Discharge into the environment must be avoided. Methods for cleaning up or taking up: For small amounts: Pick up with suitable appliance and dispose of. For large amounts: Pick up with suitable appliance and dispose of.

Page: 3/7 7. Handling and storage Handling Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas. Breathing must be protected when large quantities are decanted without local exhaust ventilation. Protect against moisture. Protect from air. Protect from direct sunlight. Protection against fire and explosion: Prevent electrostatic charge - sources of ignition should be kept well clear - fire extinguishers should be kept handy. Avoid dust formation. Storage Segregate from acids and acid forming substances. Suitable materials for containers: carbon steel (iron), Stainless steel 1.4301 (V2), Stainless steel 1.4401, High density polyethylene (HDPE), Low density polyethylene (LDPE) Further information on storage conditions: Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. 8. Exposure controls and personal protection Personal protective equipment Respiratory protection: Breathing protection if breathable aerosols/dust are formed. Particle filter EN 143 Type P2, medium efficiency, (solid and liquid particles of harmful substances). Hand protection: Use gauntlets. Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (Recommended: Protective index 6, corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374): nitrile rubber (NBR) - 0.4 mm coating thickness butyl rubber (butyl) - 0.7 mm coating thickness fluoroelastomer (FKM) - 0.7 mm coating thickness Supplementary note: The specifications are based on own tests, literature data and information of glove manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined in accordance to EN 374. Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types. Eye protection: Safety glasses with side-shields (frame goggles) (EN 166) and face shield Body protection: Body protection must be chosen depending on activity and possible exposure, e.g. apron, protecting boots, chemical-protection suit (according to DIN-EN 465). General safety and hygiene measures: Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe dust.

Physical and chemical properties Form: Colour: Odour: solid white to light brown faint specific odour ph value: > 11,5 (100 g/l) Ignition temperature: 180 C (DIN 51794) Vapour pressure: Bulk density: Solubility in water: < 0,01 hpa (20 C) < 0,01 hpa (50 C) 400 kg/m3 hydrolyzes (20 C) 10. Stability and reactivity Thermal decomposition: > 310 C Hazardous reactions: Exothermic reaction. Reacts with water. Reacts with acids. Reacts with substances which contain active hydrogen. Accumulation of fine dust may entail the risk of a dust explosion in the presence of air. Hazardous decomposition products: sodium hydroxide, 2-methylpropan-2-ol 11. Toxicological information The toxicity of the product is based on its corrosivity.

Page: 5/7 Additional information: The data given refers to the decomposition or transformation products. 12. Ecological information Persistence and degradability Assessment: The product is unstable in water. The elimination data also refer to products of hydrolysis. The organic component of the product is biodegradable. Additional information Other ecotoxicological advice: Due to the ph-value of the product, neutralization is generally required before discharging sewage into treatment plants. The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced to biological treatment plants in appropriate low concentrations. Do not release untreated into natural waters. After neutralization only the relatively minor harmful effect of the resulting salts remains. 13. Disposal considerations Must be dumped or incinerated in accordance with local regulations. Contaminated packaging: Contaminated packaging should be emptied as far as possible; then it can be passed on for recycling after being thoroughly cleaned. 14. Transport information Land transport
