Monthly Competition Congratulations to Simon Bradbery, who is the winner of our December competition for adding GCCRBA as a friend on Facebook. Simon has won a $50 product voucher from Gold Coast Basketball. This month s competition prize is a signed Blaze T- shirt. All you have to do is take a ticket at the door to our exhibition day to be in the draw to win. Winner will be announced at Carrara Stadium at 2.30pm. Basketball Exhibition Day Don't forget GCCRBA Basketball Exhibition Day, Saturday 29th January 11am- 3pm @ Carrara Stadium. Come and join in the excitement of Gold Coast Basketball's first ever Exhibition day. There will be stalls, shootout competitions, BBQ, games, prizes and information about basketball. Whether you are a current basketballer or newcomer everyone is welcome. Please contact the office if you wish to hold an advertising booth for the exhibition. This is also your chance to sign on with clubs, as they will also be represented on the day. Queensland Floods As you are aware Queensland has been hit by devastating flooding in the past couple of weeks. Many of our Queensland Associations have been hit hard, namely Auchenflower, Ipswich and Bundaberg and they are in need of our assistance. We have teamed up with the Gold Coast Blaze and will be having a collection for the three associations at the Blaze Game. 100% of all funds collected will be split between the 3 Associations. If you are unable to attend the game and would like to make a donation please contact us here in the office for details. Auchenflower Ipswich Bundaberg The Gold Coast Blaze are playing the Cairns Taipans at the Convention Centre tonight, tip off is 7.30pm. The Blaze are sitting 7th on the ladder and need your support to secure a playoff spot. Our Under 14 Boys Waves Representative team are playing the curtain raiser against Coffs Harbour at 4.30pm and entry is free. If you would like to attend the Blaze game afterwards you will have to purchase tickets and re enter when doors reopen at 6.30pm. Gold Coast Basketball, Blaze Holiday Camp The Gold Coast Basketball, Blaze holiday camp was a great success. 70 participants registered to the camp, which saw the Blaze Squad and Blaze coaching staff, conduct skills sessions, drills and games. A special thank you goes to The Gold Coast Blaze as well as the coaching staff that assisted in the sessions, namely Steve Weilands, Chris Richie, Brad O'Brien and Sam Gazzo. Coaches Development Day A reminder about the Coaches Development Day on Sunday 27th February @ Carrara Stadium. Join former NZ Captain and current Blaze assistant coach Pero Cameron for a coaches development day. The day is broken into two sections with an emphasis in part 1 on basic coaching and part 2 on advanced coaching. Current coaches, potential coaches or anyone interested in developing their basketball knowledge are invited to join this free course for either one or both sections of the day. Please email wendy@gccrba.com.au to register. 2011 Gold Coast Basketball Senior Competition GCCRBA are calling for team nominations for the new Gold Coast Basketball Senior Competition. They are as follows: Gold Coast Basketball Men s League, Wednesday nights at TSS. 12 Team maximum with $2000 prize money and award for season end MVP. Gold Coast Basketball Women s League, Wednesday nights at TSS. 6 Team maximum with $1000 prize money and award for season MVP. It is anticipated that both of these Leagues will be the premier basketball competitions on the Gold Coast. Social Men, Tuesday nights at TSS Mixed League, Tuesday nights at TSS B Grade Men, Thursday nights at TSS. All competitions are on a first come first serve basis. Please email wendy@gccrba.com.au if you would like to register for the new season beginning on the 30 th March. Nominations close 2 nd March. Scoretable Level 1 Course A final reminder for the Level 1 scoretable course. It is designed for new and less experienced scoretable officials and successful participants will receive a Basketball Australia accredited level 1 qualification. The course is free of charge (lunch also provided) and will be held in the GCCRBA Office located at Carrara Stadium from Sunday 23rd January 2011, 10am- 3pm. Registration is essential. Volunteers Needed GCCRBA are hosting the Under 18 Boys State Championships from the 29 th April 2 nd May 2011, at Tallebudgera Rec Centre and Carrara Stadium. We are in need of volunteers for the following positions: General administration, door takings, scoretable, general liaison. "Big's Camp" The last reminder to all those interested in attending the Bigs Camp. The 2- hour session will be run by one of the best "Big Men" to play in Australasia in recent years in current Blaze Assistant Coach Pero Cameron. Pero was named to the 2002 World Championship All- Star 5 and captained the NZ Men's team at 2 Olympic Games and 3 World Championships campaigns. Registration is essential so don't miss out on this great opportunity, please visit the GCCRBA website for registration forms Saturday January 22nd at Varsity College. Girls 1.00pm - 3.00pm Boys 3.00pm - 5.00pm Basketball Injury Prevention 101 On Tuesday 15th February, 6pm- 7.30pm, Carrara Stadium. Gold Coast basketball in conjunction with experienced sports trainer Sean MacCrory are holding a free injury course. The course will focus on the prevention and treatment of basketball related injuries. Sean will also teach all participants how to correctly strap ankles, fingers and knees. Aussie Hoops and Minihoops The Aussie Hoops (ages 3-6) and Minihoops (ages 7-11) programs will commence on Saturday February 19th at Carrara Stadium. Both programs offer a cost effective and fun platform for children wanting to begin and/or develop their basic skills of basketball. Please visit our news section of the GCCRBA website for registration forms and fees for 2011. Both of these programs will be run in 8- week blocks throughout the year. Registrations must be made prior to the commencement of the program. 2011 Japan U'16 Tour When: 2011 June/July School Holidays Who: 12 male and 12 female players born in 1996 & 1997. Cost: $2,600 per player (This is an approximate amount and includes everything except for spending money, it is hoped that the final costing will actually be below this amount) Gold Coast Basketball is holding an information/trial/training session from 9-11am at Hillcrest Christian College on the 22nd January.
