Rare island... Once famous among smugglers and pirates, the island has been lost in the seas of time. Rugged, inhospitable and wind-swept the island is home to nothing seagulls and sheep. You have been washed ashore on this island. Rescue is far away. If you are going to survive, you will need to complete a series of challenges that will test your physical, mental and team-work skills. You will need to build your own shelter and fire for warmth, design weapons you can use to fend off creatures of the night, and learn how to navigate to rugged terrain of Rare Island. Completing each challenge will earn you Rare Bullion. The team with the most Bullion will be the winner. This 2-day survival challenge will test your mental, physical and team-working skills. Aided by Royal Marine Commandos and survival instructors you will need to master starting fires and building shelters before the darkness closes in. Concentration, courage and can-do attitude are a must. As they say in the Marines, 99.9% need not apply! 2

THE DETAILS Day 1 You will rendezvous with your team in the afternoon for pick up at Cardiff s Mermaid Quay. The meeting time varies depending on tide timings, and will be sent to you shortly after registration. You will then board ribbed fastboats for transfer to Rare Island. The tide and weather can make the crossing choppy be sure to bring your sea legs! Your survival experience begins the moment you set foot on Rare Island from building your shelter to starting a fire for warmth. It s up to you. Day 2 Today starts at sunrise. You will need to start a fire to cook breakfast, before the day s challenges begin. You will need to demonstrate essential survival skills, such as navigation, purifying water, building weapons and memory recall. Our team of survival experts will be on hand to offer guidance and determine the winners of each challenge. Do you have what it takes? Day 3 Another early start to collapse camp and start on today s final set of challenges. You will be put through your paces, testing everything you have learned over the past 2 days. The final challenge will be lighting your signal fire on the beach to attract rescue. Succeed, and you ll be on your way to dry land. If you don t, you could be calling Rare Island home for the foreseeable future Adventure Fact File: Country: United Kingdom Dates: Spring & Summer 2017 Number of days: 3 Registration opens: September 2016 Group size: Max 20 Registration fee: 95 Fundraising target: TBC What will you need? FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What will the weather be like? Rare Island is subject to the same weather as the rest of the UK. Conditions can change quickly, meaning you can expect sunshine, wind, rain and even hail sometimes in the same day! Will we need to catch our own food? Our team will provide basic ingredients so you can cook your own meals. They will also show you how to find food on the island, and how to prepare it! I have a dietary requirement will this be OK? We can cater for most dietary preferences, however if you are concerned, please call and let our team know. Is there mobile phone signal on the island? Yes. Although we encourage all participants to hand in their mobile phones during the survival experience. We run a 24/7 support line in case anyone from home needs to reach you urgently, so please share this with them: +44(0)20 347 53216 Can I take my own food or drinks to the island? Unless you have a specific dietary requirement, you cant bring your own food to the island, except for items chosen as one of your optional items. Can I bring alcohol to the island? No, but there are plenty of great pubs in Cardiff for a celebratory drink. If you make it back Will the instructors shout at me, or make me do things I don t want to? Absolutely not! Our instructors are there to help you have fun, learn new survival skills, and to take you outside of your comfort zone in safe & enjoyable environment. If at any point you don t want to take part in an activity, you won t have to. What if I want to leave the island? Once you are on the island, except in the event of an emergency, the only way back to the mainland will be when the boat comes to collect us on the final day. What s included? Return boat transfers to the island 2 days of survival training Experienced survival instructors All meals & drinking water while on the island Basic shelter & accommodation 24/7 emergency support 4
