Commodore s Report Hi everyone, Firstly, I would like to congratulate all those who assisted and competed in the Founding Fathers regatta. The weather was abysmal and to the final two finishers on Sunday, Olivia and Scurrilous I think they deserve their rewards for the very hard and wet sail. We took the opportunity to subsidise the meals for both the Saturday and Sunday night to try to give something back to the crew and skippers who attended. Hopefully you all enjoyed the after race get together. A special thanks to Peter Richards for both his professional approach as PRO on the weekend and also for his installation of a new "waterproof" VHF radio, Thanks heaps Peter for all your assistance. I note that we have several events coming up including a "Land" cruise to Brunswick Heads in early November and the cruise to Coff's in mid November, hopefully we will get some support for both these events. We continue to get support for the racing events although naturally we have variations in the numbers fronting the start line, I guess this will always be the case with such a small yacht club, but it should not be a problem, especially to those who enjoy the pleasures of a great day sailing. cheers Ian Johnston Port of Yamba Yacht Club 3 October 2018 #250

Being a FWS (Fair Weather Sailor) I did not really enjoy sailing last Wednesday October 24 but managed to survive the conditions with help from my crew. First Time was blown against the wall near Iluka, and Olivia had a wine glass for a jib. Many others were struggling. As a result, the race was abandoned. A good call. Next Wednesday is Halloween. Costume regulations apply to all yachts sailing in the race! There might be a few pirates about! Next weekend is the Land Cruise to Brunswick Heads and Murwillumbah. See the more detailed itinerary in this issue. If you would still like to attend, there is an offer of accommodation in the commodore s spare bedroom. Speak to Ian, he lives only 20 minutes away. November 15-18 a cruise is planned to go to Coffs Harbour. So far only 1 boat has said they are going. Without more participation, this event will be cancelled. Thanks again to all my regular newsletter contributors. Cheers, BiLL From the Editor s Tablet P.S. Cover photo is courtesy of Peter Rose sailing on Olivia. PYYC Clubhouse Renovations Members who have visited the Club recently will have noticed some changes have been happening. Peter Richards kindly offered space at his property which enabled the Club to move into storage the excess tables and chairs along with a number of other items only required from time to time. Patrick Roberts provided his utility and he along with a number of other volunteers made short work of the move. A big thanks to Peter, Patrick and the others who helped. With the excess furniture etc. out of the way the remaining bits and pieces were sorted and a general tidy up took place. Bill Granger has set up the computer, TV and sound equipment and made sure all are connected and in working order. A wide range of Club clothing and other merchandise has been located and sorted. Members or visitors wishing to purchase Polo Shirts, T Shirts and Boat Shoes plus much more are sure to find what they are looking for at a bargain price.. Please check with Sharon for assistance. The Executive Committee have made the decision to replace the the very worn carpet. From the quotations submitted a style and color was selected. The replacement carpet will be installed in the near future and is sure to make a big impact on the appearance of the Clubhouse. The Committee is hoping the new look Clubhouse will provide a pleasant environment for the Members and possibly assist in encouraging new members and visitors. I look forward to meeting you at the Clubhouse again soon. Richard Robertson - Co-opted Member Port of Yamba Yacht Club 11 October 2018 #250
