Greetings and Welcome to our 16th James Creek Simmental Private Treaty Bull Sale! It is time to present our sale cattle for your appraisal. Please let us know your questions about the cattle listed and our sale process. We are very impressed with several of the bulls that have developed into great herd bull prospects. You are welcome to stop by and see the bulls before the sale. We encourage you to take a few minutes to study the feedlot page. We are more confident each year in the ability our genetics to make you money in a feeding scenario. Buy with confidence as these bulls are herd mates to the same steers and heifers that have produced the efficient feedlot performance!! The bulls were given Bovi-Shield 5 and 7-way with haemophilus in May before going to pasture. The same vaccinations were given in September before weaning. Bovi-Shield 5 was boostered after weaning, in October. We dewormed the bulls with Safe-Guard pellet in December. The bulls were weaned on October 1, 2018. They are on a TMR that consists of whole corn, alfalfa, beet pulp and a mineral supplement. This ration is balanced to a 14% protein level and has been worked up to an energy level of.48 net energy gain. These rations have worked really well for us the past few years and the bulls have gone on feed very easy. We have included some information that we are tracking for our own use. Using the cow s weight at weaning time we can determine the calf s performance against the cow s weight for birth weight and weaning weight. These are expressed as a percentage of the cow s weight and are located on the individual bull page. The weights used are the actual weights taken on September 26th, at preg checking and vaccination time. Our herd average the last several years is 6-7% for birth weight and 43% for weaning weight. We have included days of gestation (DOG) on the bulls that were A.I. ed or had breeding dates. We feel that 288 days gestation hits our herd fairly accurate over time for normal due dates. On January 3, 2019 weights, frame score and scrotal measurements were taken. The frame score and scrotal measurements are listed as an adjusted number to one-year of age. Check our website for performance updates of the bulls. We will have another set of weights around January 29, 2019. All of the bulls are dilution tested and the results will be available later in January. Come early and have lunch with us starting at noon! Hanna and Hailey will have their special Simmental cow cookies. We hope to visit with you soon!
