Volume XXXIII, September/October 2010 THE PRESIDENT SEZ Ty Ozgen, President It won t be long before all the leaves have fallen and the snow begins to fall. I don t know about you but it can be nice to wind down over the winter. What I mean is that the kids are back in school and life gets back to a slower pace. There is not much yard work either other than cleaning snow off the driveway. The Z s are usually hibernating so I don t have to worry about them but I do miss driving them. Also we tend to stay in more due to the weather. As far as the club, it also tends to be a quieter time for us. We do have some activities coming up as we wind things down for the year. On Saturday, October 9 th from 11AM to 2 PM we will be at Continental Nissan, 5250 S. LaGrange Rd. in Countryside. Jay Weinberger has opened up his dealership once again to us. This is a very informal event where we just get together with our Z s and hang out over there. Jay will be catering this event so please let me know if you are coming by email at tmo212@aol.com. I have had many RSVPS already. I hope that the weather will be OK but it is a rain or shine event. Then we have the Fall Colors of Indiana Road Trip hosted by Bob Bienick on the weekend of October 22-24. It is not too late to sign up. See the flyer in this newsletter. Give Bob a note at bobbienick@comcast.net if you are going to attend Finally we will be having our 35 th Annual Windy City Z Club Birthday Party at the Seven Bridges Golf Club in Woodridge, IL. (See flyer) It is hard to believe that our club has been around for this long. This speaks for the quality people we have in our club and the hard work that our officers do. As always, this event is always well attended with good food and spirits. The cost is still only $22 as your club dues help pay for the rest of the tab. We will try to get raffle prizes but I must be honest, the current economic times are making it very difficult to round up prizes. Elections will be held and I would like to continue as your President but James Snyder, Editor Windy City Z Club Officers President Ty Ozgen 630.910.3616 VP of Activities please volunteer! VP of Administration Jeff Pleiter 630.832.7857 Treasurer Bill Bragg 414.697.1779 I am asking if someone would take over the reigns as Vice President of Activities. I have been doing this as well the last couple years and am running out of fresh ideas. This plus my work schedule and family responsibilities are making it even more difficult. Of course all the positions are open for new officers so if you have any desire to run please let me know. Don t worry; we will not just throw you in the rink. You will have plenty of help. Hope to see you soon. Jeff Pleiter V.P. Admin. & Membership ~ Ty It s fall and the change of seasons is starting, only a couple more month of Z driving weather. I took the NISMO out for a short drive on this cloudy and cool day. Nice weekend days are catch as catch can. It looks like the current forecast is good weather for the Oktoberfest at Continental Nissan. Hope to see many of you there. I was able to take advantage of their maintenance special for the free oil change and inspection last week. We looked at the Cube again while we were there. I think Allie is going to end up with one of those sooner or later. She just loves it funky look. The birthday party is coming up and I am thinking of taking on VP of Activities next year. If I do that though, that will leave VP of Administration open and possibly also membership. So it is time to think of how you might take on those offices. Of course if you were thinking of taking on Activities, don t let me stop you. We should get a few new members taking up office and maybe get a few ideas in. www.windycityzclub.com Volume XXXIII, September/October 2010 page 1

One thing that needs to be done is to update our club sponsor phone book. It has not been done for a while, so if you have an interest in talking to various sponsors, here is a good task to take on. We usually try to split the list up among a few members. I have just not had time to take the lead on that this year due to a busy personal and work life this year. For those of you following CJs treatment for Hodgkin s, the chemo is finally over and we are now into follow up monitoring mode. Everything is looking good for now. If you have not already seen the video, check out the Top Gear website for them wrecking a 370Z during a race. The driver was not one of the TV show hosts, but some other mag member. I watch the show because it is one of the most fun shows on TV, cars or no cars, but I don t read the mag or keep tabs on the website, so I did not recognize the driver. www.zcar.com had a link to the Top Gear website. From my view this year has been a mixed bag for the club. Some events have been well attended, some not so well. The planned drive to Starved Rock was cancelled due to lack of interest. Maybe the club will try to throw another drive together when the leaves turn. It seems to be harder to get free time for many people and the economy does not help either. A number of people had told me both factors have been a reason they have not renewed. Weather is a factor for event attendance. A lot of the current members don t take the Z out if rain threatens. I have a few ideas to add some more life into the club that we can discuss as we move forward into the next year. ~ Jeff MARKET SCCA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RUNOFFS ROAD AMERICA 24-26 SEPTEMBER 2010 E PRODUCTION 2. Fall Colors Tour We're looking for a few good Z's - we still have a few openings! If mother nature cooperates this will be a beautiful driving tour on terrific roads. Called the "Fall Colors in Indiana", the drive is in Hoosier National Forest which is beautiful this time of the year. This trip would be 2+ days. Day 1: Friday October 22nd. Plan A - Meet at the Lincoln Oasis mid afternoon, quick stop along I-65 to pickup any Indiana members, have dinner at one of the top steak houses in Indiana, then drive to Crawfordsville In. Plan B - Drive down to Crawfordsville independently if you want to leave later in the day or evening. About 125 miles and 2.25 hours from Lincoln Oasis. Day 2: Saturday 23rd Travel the scenic and curvy byways of central and southern Indiana for the fall colors. Lunch in Nashville, then overnight in Jasper, and dinner at a great German restaurant. Day 3: Sunday 24th Again travel the scenic and curvy byways to Edwardsville, IN. We will arrive very early afternoon. Time for a quick lunch, then head home on the interstate. From Edwardsville about 280 miles and 4.5 hours to Lincoln Oasis, plus we pick up an hour in the time zone change. Plenty of rest areas without getting off I-65. Even closer if you're from Indiana. Max 12 cars Let me know if you are interested in going. I'll sign you up and send the details on the hotels. bobbienick@comcast.net Bob Bienick www.windycityzclub.com Volume XXXIII, September/October 2010 page 3
