ANNUAL PERFORMANCE HANDBOOK OUR FOUNDATION 2017-2018 SEASON

Performance Overview Dance Revelation s Annual Performance allows our students to present to their families and friends the results of a year s hardwork, dedication, and progress. The Annual Performance experience helps build self-esteem, self-assurance, and contributes to a sense of confidence. Although performance opportunities can help prepare some students for a possible career in dance, they also contribute to children s success in non-dance activities. The onstage experience can result in better school presentations, improved social skills, and strong interview skills for future college or job opportunities. The rehearsal process is a tremendous learning experience as well. It helps the children develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on a group performance, they learn the positive aspects of working as a team to create the best result. Commitment to the Annual Performance is the responsibility of both students and their parents. We ve created this handbook in an effort to clarify what we expect from you in terms of commitment and responsibility to the Annual Performance, the school, and other students and parents. As part of a professional performance, a lot goes into making our students shine on stage. This includes: rehearsal time and space, theater rental, lighting/sound/stage technicians, staff development, costumes/shoes/accessory selection, ordering and distribution, stage-managing, ticketing, backstage assisting, and more! The fees you pay go towards all of the areas listed above that are associated with our Annual Performance.

Performance Information DRESS REHEARSAL Participation in the dress rehearsal is MANDATORY. dress rehearsal allows the students to become familiar with the theatre surroundings and feel comfortable with their performance, costumes, and being onstage. Lighting, music cues, set changes, and all other logistics for an organized and professional performance are rehearsed so that the students make the best impression possible. We run an organized and timely dress rehearsal, and your help with the process will guarantee a professional production. Please note that depending on your child s level, dress rehearsal may be more than one day. PERFORMANCES Parent or guardian should drop their child(ren) off at the check-in where they will be escorted to their dressing room and placed under the supervision of their room moms. When a class has completed its last performance, the room mom will stay with that class until the end of the performance. After the performance ends, please line up at the designated location and wait for staff to direct you to pick up your child. YOU MAY NOT PICK UP YOUR CHILD UNTIL THE ENTIRE PER- FORMANCE ENDS.

On Monday, May 22nd ticket sales will open up in person, via telephone, and online. Tickets are $26 each. Additional fees may apply for online sales. Due to the capacity of Hershey Theatre, Dance Revelation will not be reserving any tickets or seats. In an effort to create an organized and professional atmosphere, all tickets are assigned seating. Each member of the family must have a reserved seat. No children over 2 years of age will be allowed to sit on a parent s lap. If younger siblings would be uncomfortable remaining seated for two hours, please do not bring them to the performance. All of our performances are considered family entertainment and are less than two hours in length.

Costumes For all students, Annual Performance fees are built into the monthly tuition payments. All students whose accounts are paid up to date by January 1, 2018 will receive a costume. Any students who have overdue accounts will not receive a costume until they pay their account balance in full. Any student who drops classes prior to January 1, 2018 will not receive a costume unless they pay for it in full. We spend many hours determining the correct costumes for each class. They are always age appropriate and of the highest quality possible. Level 1 Ballet/Tap students will need one costume; all other students will need one costume for each genre they take unless otherwise specified. For example: a level 2 student who takes ballet/tap and a hip hop class will have a ballet costume, tap costume, and hip hop costume. Some costumes are homemade and homemade costume details are provided in the fall. Costumes include all accessories (hats, gloves, tights, etc.) but not shoes or undergarments. The cost of the Annual Performance includes costumes, accessories, such as headpieces, gloves, and tights, as well as all prop fees, the cost of performance music and all other costs associated with the Annual Performance. Shoes and undergarments are the only item not included. Any special costume orders, including extra-large sizes, may require an additional charge (determined by the costume company). Additional charges are the sole responsibility of the parent or guardian. Students may be required to purchase tan or black tap shoes and/or jazz shoes for their performance costume. They may also be required to purchase dance paws. Costumes will only be distributed to those who have accounts paid in full. Dance Revelation is not responsible if costumes are not received in time for the performance due to late payments. COSTUME FEES AND TUTITION FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE AT ANY TIME. Tights: To ensure that there are no discrepancies in color and style, all tights will be purchased through the studio. Do not wear or wash your tights before the dress rehearsal or performance. (Note: Having a second pair of tights on hand offers students and parents a great sense of security. Information to purchase additional or replacement tights will be given to the parent upon request, but it is up to the parent to purchase any additional tights.)

Shoes: Students may be required to purchase tan or black tap and/or jazz shoes for their performance costume. They may also be required to purchase dance paws. For all BCDR students expect to purchase new ballet shoes or pointe shoes prior to the performance. This is determined by the lead ballet instructor. Your child will be notified if they are in need of new looking shoes. Undergarments: Dance Revelation will provide information on required undergarments. Undergarments will be purchased by the student and are not provided. Undergarments will be determined based on the costume. Sizing: Costume measuring will occur in September-October, during scheduled class times. Each child will be measured in order to determine his or her proper costume size(s). Parents, you will be responsible to sign off on the size that we feel is best for your child. If you measure and feel a different size is best, please make that correction on the costume size form before signing it and returning it back to us. Costumes are not exchanged for any reason (see alteration section below). Although rare, alterations are sometimes needed after the costumes have been distributed and are the sole responsibility of the student s parent or guardian. Any necessary alterations must be done outside of the studio, and it is up to the guardians to have alterations done should their child s costume need it. Costume companies create costumes like a box and may need to be tailored based on your child s body type. Dance Revelation is not responsible for exchanging any items that be can be altered. Costume Bags: All costumes will be delivered in a brown costume bag, which is how you should bring it to the Annual Performance. Dance Revelation will provide labels on each costume bag, any blank spots on labels should be filled out by the parent/guardian prior to dress rehearsal. All entry level students should arrive to dress rehearsal and the performance in the costume they dance in first. All other costumes should be in their separate costume bag with all shoes, tights and accessories that belong to that specific costume.
