EAST FORK TREASURE HUNTERS ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER JUNE 2016 ABOUT OUR CLUB: Founded in 2005, we are a family friendly, fun-seeking group of folks that enjoy the hobby of metal detecting, searching for lost coins, jewelry, or other treasures that are surely out there. We help clean up parks and responsibly recover items following our digging ethics. Typically we meet on the first Thursday of every month and our meetings are open to the public. We would love to have you as a member or would just welcome your friendly visit. Lost something and need our help finding it? Visit our website or email us at eastforktreasure@gmail.com. Our club Newsletter helps keep our members informed about the activities and adventures of our metal detecting club. We welcome your visit! Our next club meeting will be on Thursday, JUNE 2nd at the gymnasium inside the New World United Methodist Church, 5134 Northwest Highway, Garland, TX 75043, from 7 9 pm. Look for the EFTHA sign! (The GPS coordinates are: N 32 51 20.56 W 96 38 10.05.) PRESIDENT: John W. TREASURER, Newsletter: Steve D. CLUB OFFICERS: VICE PRESIDENT: Jim M. SECRETARY: Rheia D. Appreciated volunteers! Huntmaster: Bill A. Find Of The Month: Andretta L. Refreshments: Earl H. A FEW WORDS FROM OUR CLUB PRESIDENT: This month we welcome the beginning of summer. I m sure there will be many of us planning on a vacation (maybe trying to get away from the heat) and getting some much deserved R&R. Do you take your metal detector with you when you travel? I do. Most recently, I was on a trip to the SF Bay Area and managed to get in a little detecting. I ve noticed that when I travel out of the DFW area, I can often find places to detect that haven t been hit so hard (or maybe not at all). Beaches, parks, family homesteads, picnic areas are all great to detect. With summer, you know we usually get the heat. You need to be prepared and have lots of water and to remember to take some breaks now and again while detecting. Be safe and Happy Hunting! MAY FUN HUNT, EMBREE PARK: Well, atttendance was a little light at the May Fun Hunt at Embree Park in Garland, in fact it was just me, Rheia and our grandson Hayden, but we had a lot of fun anyways. Hayden found the hidden token and scored the prize! The winning 3 drawn catagories were; "MOST ALUMINUM": 1) Hayden, 2) Steve, "MOST COINS": 1) Steve with 13, Hayden with 2, "BEST OBJECT": 1) Hayden with unknown item, 2) Steve with lock. See you at the next one! Acting Huntmasters Steve and Rheia Lucky hunter Hayden found the hidden token! We hunted for only about 30 minutes after the Token hunt and Steve found 5 quarters, 3 dimes, a nickel and some pennies, so there is lots of clad still to be found in this park! www.eastforktreasurehunters.com eastforktreasure@gmail.com Page 2 of 5

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE GARRETT MUSEUM AND TOUR: For the May meeting, the members of EFTHA and GTES had the priveledge to attend the tour of the Garrett metal detectors factory. Vaughan Garrett himself gave us the tour! We were surely astonished with the quality and care shown in the fine products! Our tour began with members enjoying the facinating artifacts and recovered relics at the showcase museum. It also had the new ACE 200, 300, and 400 line of detectors. Along the way in the tour, we saw many awards and recognitions awarded to Charles Garrett. We also got to view one of the first models which the Garrett family started with. Thank you Vaughan and Garrett for the wonderful tour! www.eastforktreasurehunters.com eastforktreasure@gmail.com Page 3 of 5

Note: For the May meeting, there were no door prizes, no Fundraiser, no Nametag drawing and no FOM as we had the Garrett Factory tour. Remember to "double-up" on your FOM finds in June! REFRESHMENTS REMINDER BOX: Please keep our June meeting in mind and if you want to bring something, please let Earl know. Thank you to all who bring snacks and refreshments to our monthly meeting! Also for the June 4th Seeded Hunt, the club will be furnishing ham, chicken, and turkey sandwich meats, bread, plates, utensils. Please get with Earl to sign up for other items. FINAL PREPERATIONS FOR THE JUNE 4TH SEEDED HUNT: To help us plan for the upcoming seeded hunt on June 4th, we are asking that you at least let us know if you intend to hunt please. You can pay the hunt fees up till about 2 days before the hunt and we are planning on about 15 hunters, but we would like to get a "head count" if possible. We will be collecting hunt fees at the next meeting, see Rheia for that. The Main Hunt fee is $25 and it's $10 for the "Copper Hunt". We are planning a large silver dime count along with some silver quarters and silver halves too for the Main Hunt. As usual, the club will provide a sandwich lunch (ham, chicken, turkey meat, bread), but will ask the membership to provide drinks or any special fixins. Earl is going to make a sign-up list of what to bring so please see him for that. The hunt will take place at Samual Farms in Mesquite around 10am. These details will be sent out again as an email blast before the hunt for those that cannot make the meeting. Fundraiser items for JUNE 2016 include: 2016 Silver Eagle dollar 1943 Walking Liberty half 1914 Morgan silver quarter 1858 Flying eagle cent 1854 Large cent 2 1/2 oz copper rounds Preview of the next Fundraiser!: Tickets are only $1 each, or 6 for $5, 12 for $10 or 24 tickets for $20!
