The event attracted a total of over 5,400 athletes this year to participate in eight different cycling rides and activities, about 15% of whom were visitors. This year, 15 professional cycling teams from overseas, including eleven UCI WorldTour Teams, three Pro Continental Teams and the Hong Kong National Team participated in Hammer Hong Kong the finale of the European Hammer Series, which was held in Asia for the first time. Spectators from local and overseas gathered in Tsim Sha Tsui to experience the action-packed cycling races. Hammer Hong Kong presented by Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) is a UCI Asia Tour Class 1.1 Road Race. Fifteen participating teams first faced off in the Hammer Sprint over a 10-lap course, with Australian team Mitchelton-Scott claiming victory. Mitchelton-Scott triumphed in the following 5-lap Hammer Chase. After two rounds of intense competition, Mitchelton-Scott was named the winner of Hammer Hong Kong. The title of Hammer Series 2018 champion was carried off by Mitchelton-Scott as a result of their impressive performances in Hammer Hong Kong, Hammer Stavanger in 1
Norway and Hammer Limburg in the Netherlands. The trophy was presented to the winning team by Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the HKSAR. Apart from Hammer Hong Kong, the SHKP Hong Kong Cyclothon also presented several other cycling events, including the Women s Open Race and the Elite Partners Men s Open Race. Sze-wing Lee and Dor-ming Domino Chau were pronounced winners of these events respectively. While the world s top professional cyclists took centre stage, amateur cyclists including locals and visitors joined the 50km Ride, 30km Ride, CEO Charity & Celebrity Ride, Family Fun Ride, Kids & Youth Rides, etc were given the opportunity to cycle through some of Hong Kong s busiest districts. A new SHKP Greater Bay Area Youth Trophy was newly introduced in the 50km category this year, to encourage participation of youths in the 11 Greater Bay Area cities. A new BEA Centenary University Trophy was also introduced in the 30km category, which saw students from nine local universities participating. To promote cycling for a good cause, various charitable elements were added to this year s event. Part of the enrolment fees from the various activities (Individual: HK$100; 50km Team Ride: HK$5,000), and all the enrolment fees from the CEO Charity and Celebrity Ride, together with the additional charitable donations made by Sun Hung Kai Properties, the event s title and charity sponsor, will be donated to charity. Beneficiary organisations this year are The Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong, Changing Young Lives Foundation, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council, and Stewards through The Community Chest of Hong Kong to help local underprivileged children and youth.
