The Bugle Battlefield Boogie Club CREATE DANCE HISTORY CREATE A MEMORY Fredericksburg, Virginia Vol 11 No. 3 July/August/September 2016 President s Letter Audrey Borja Happy summer to everyone! It is hard to believe it is July! Our summer activities are keeping us busy with family and friends while embraced with summer heat. Oh my~ As I write this letter, we are also reflecting on sad things that have happened over the past months. Three of our club members, Tony, Ricky, and Doris have passed away suddenly. This loss is so heartfelt. May their families know that we loved them, miss them and cherish their memory. Please keep their loved ones in your prayers. The months of April, May and June were eventful and played havoc with our emotions, but we all stuck together for the support of each of us. The Spring SOS was another success, and thanks to our BBC dancers that danced at the local Antique Car Show. We got a touch of good exposure for our dance. We attended several band events July/August/ Sept Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 Page 5 Page 6 Page 7 Page 8 Page 9 Page 10 Page 11 President s Letter What s Up! Car s & Dancin In Memory of Happy Feet Shag Basics DJ Schedule Top 50 New Members Shannon s Bar & Grill Flyers at the Elks and our activities gave us a great spring. Because we all love to dance, Carolina shagging can be a big part of your summer. There are bands and DJs playing music both locally in the Fredericksburg area and up and down the coast. You may not know that there are 11 shag clubs in Virginia that are always having dances and sponsoring Carolina DJ s and bands. Check them out on line and watch for flyers at our entrance table on Thursday dance nights. We are having a Gentlemen s Night on July 12 when guys can get in the dance for free. By the time this letter goes to press, we will know the success of this special night. Actually, we have had low attendance at our dances for several weeks and are reaching out to all of you to try and adjust your schedules so you can come to dance on Thursday nights. I will express to you that I am concerned about our membership not showing up on dance nights. We as a club are fortunate to have Shannon s as our venue for our dance night. Each Thursday we schedule DJs to play for us, provide dance instruction to teach the Carolina shag, and we teach and have line dancing. We strive to get everyone on the floor dancing. Of course, all of this could change if we do not improve our attendance. We have to earn our keep at Shannon s and we have to sustain our club with each of you joining in to be with us. Our recent survey of our members showed that we all agree that the ladies have a lack of men to dance with. Many ideas were suggested which we will be trying in the upcoming months. Please refer to our recent email outlining the survey and the results. As you know, it is actually fun to come out for an evening of fun and friendship. Ok, I will get off of my soapbox. I look forward to seeing you when you can come and join us~ Oh, and yes, Jewell Pradier is FINAL- LY leaving us during the month of July. Boo. ~ We do not want Jewell to move, but I guess she must. But, she will remain a member and occasional line dance instructor for us. We will see her in the Carolinas on the dance floor and in competitions with the best. Jewell, we will miss you and you will always be one of us! God s speed~ Thanks to Bernie Mason, our BBC Secretary, who is reviewing and preparing to update our By-Laws, Charter and IRS requirements. This is a lot of work, and Bernie we appreciate your help. Your knowledge base and willingmess to help are valuable to us. You get special kudos! We are not having our annual party as we usually schedule for August. Many things have contributed to this decision. Low attendance on Thursday night dances, membership count, adjustments in cost, etc. We will have another special and fun event this year for our members and guests, so please stay tuned. We are also working on having a dance at the mall to introduce and promote our dance. When the word comes out, we hope you will join in the expo for our Fredericksburg presence. In planning ahead, please make a note that we are in the early stages of adding a junior shag program to our club. We are working with the Northern Va. Shag Club to put this together. This would be exciting for all of our juniors. We will be attending a significant junior workshop in October to participate with other on-going junior programs in Virginia. Watch for the flyers for dates and plans. So, we hope to see you all soon. Have a safe, healthy, and fun summer. Take care, come to dance on Thursdays, bring a friend, and be good to your neighbors. Let the good times roll! Dancing is good medicine~
