Communications Department Victory Field 501 W. Maryland Street Indianapolis, IN 46225 317.269.3542 www.indyindians.com GONE SO SOON: 1-2, T-3rd IL West RHP Wilfredo Boscan (NR) Sunday, April 12, 2015 1:35 p.m. EDT Victory Field Indianapolis, IN Game #4 Home Game #4 This season marks the first campaign since 2011 in which both Matt Hague & Chase d Arnaud aren t featured within the organization (or Tribe). The duo combined to appear in 818 games with Indy from 2011-14. LAST TIME OUT [Starter Chris Volstad retired his last 13 faced, Jose Tabata tripled and scored the first run of the season and Indy defeated Columbus 2-0.] THE INDIANS... Snapped a 21-inning scoreless streak through the first three games when Deibinson Romero plated Tabata with a fourthinning sac fly; The Tribe added an additional run on a second sacrifice fly and has yet to record a run-scoring base hit over the first three games... Have out-hit the opposition 17-16 but are being have been outscored 7-2 in the same span... Pitching staff enters Sunday s contest ranked third in the International League in WHIP (1.07, T-3rd) and runs per game (2.33)... Recorded their first one-hit shutout in almost exactly two years to the day, last accomplishing the feat on April 13, 2013 at Columbus. SERIES SHOWDOWN The Indians and Clippers meet for the fourth of 21 matchups during the 2015 season... Indy snapped a two-game skid on Saturday and has won eight of the last 13 tilts with the Clips since the 2014 All-Star break... Including the 2015 series, the Tribe has held Columbus to no more than four runs with a pair of shutouts in nine of the last 12 games at Victory Field, dating back to a doubleheader on July 10, 2014. VOL-STUD Big league veteran Volstad won his first career appearance in the International League with six scoreless innings and two strikeouts... Volstad allowed only one single, faced just three above the minimum and followed a hit-by-pitch with 13 batters set down in order from the second-sixth innings. A STREAK TO CALL OUR OWN Indians pitching returned the favor from consecutive shutouts by tossing 14 straight scoreless innings against Columbus from the fourth frame on Friday through today s first pitch... Eight pitchers have contributed to the current streak, and the feat is only four innings shy of last year s seasonhigh stretch of 18 frames from back-to-back shutouts of Lehigh Valley from July 6-7. RHP Wilfredo Boscan -- See Printed Pitcher Page for Totals -- Today s Tribe Starter Current Streak: N/A Notes: Boscan is making his first appearance of the season and first of his career against Columbus... Last year, he was signed by Boston prior to the season on Feb. 8 and went a combined 3-7 with one save, a 3.66 ERA (27er/66.1ip) and 48 strikeouts in 22 appearances (five starts) between Double-A Portland (20G/5GS) and Triple-A Pawtucket (2G)... He made two appearances with the PawSox, was transferred to extended spring training until May 21 and finished the year with Portland... Boscan then went 1-2 with a 6.26 ERA (29er/41.2ip) in 12 appearances (11 starts) while pitching for Aguilas del Zulia in the Venezuelan Winter League. NO RELIEF FOR THE WICKED After allowing a ninth-inning run in the season opener, the Tribe s bullpen has gone unscored upon in two straight games with six relievers making unblemished appearances... Indy enters Sunday with its bullpen having allowed just one hit (Lindor single off Holdzkom) with seven strikeouts over the last seven innings (two games). DOUBLE DECKER Jaff Decker produced just the second extra-base hit for the Indians lineup through its first 65 at-bats of the season when he doubled to right in the second inning Saturday... Decker s two-bagger is his first since completing a 2014 campaign with the Tribe in which he totaled his most doubles (21) since 2011 and the second-largest count of his career. HIT-HIT, JOSE! Jose Tabata reached base twice last night with a walk and leadoff triple... Tabata, who was held off the basepaths in four trips to the plate in the opener, has since reached base in four of his last eight plate appearances with three hits (3x7), a free pass and a run scored... Beginning July 25 of the 2014 season, Tabata has hit.340 (32x94) over his last 27 Triple-A games with the Indians. O-B-P, YEAH YOU KNOW ME Gorkys Hernandez found his way aboard against Columbus with a 1-for-4 effort and single... Despite batting just.250 in three games prior to Sunday, Hernandez ranks second among team qualified hitters with a.400 on-base percentage... His OBP includes a pair of hits in eight at-bats and two walks with the Indians. \(8) and runners thrown out at home plate (4). VS. COLUMBUS - Boscan has never faced the Clippers during his career.
