ISSUE 2 OCTOBER 18 World Peace Day Thank you to all learners that took part in World Peace Day. It was fantastic to see so many learners take part in non-uniform day and to have raised 501.21. Kinky Boots Year 8 and 9 learners enjoyed a trip to the Derngate on Wednesday 19th September. Over 130 learners from Years 8 and 9 were singing and dancing in the aisles at The Royal and Derngate Theatre last Wednesday, as they were treated to a final dress rehearsal performance of the Tony and Olivier award winning musical Kinky Boots. Set in Northampton, Kinky Boots tells the true story of Charlie Price, a shoe factory owner who reverses the misfortune of business by forming a working partnership with Lola a drag queen performer from London. With music by 1980s Pop-icon Cyndi Lauper, the musical was a spectacular array of big show tunes, complex choreography and laugh-out-loud humour. After a personal introduction by the show s Director Jerry Mitchell, learners from Wootton Park watched the performers in awe from their front row seats. For many of our learners, this was their first experience of live theatre and it was a pleasure to see their sheer engagement and excitement throughout. At the end of the performance, as learners waited for their coach journey back to school, they were even treated to an impromptu autograph session with the two lead actors: Callum Francis (Lola) and Joel Harper-Jackson (Charlie). The actors talked with our learners and it was clear to see how inspired many of our learners were. As always, our Year 8 and Year 9s were a complete asset to the school. Mr Cooper Wellbeing session On Tuesday 25th September a group of learners worked with Marvin and Esther from Northamptonshire Healthwatch to discuss wellbeing and how they can take care of their own. They talked about the things that make them happy and created 3 wonderfully artistic canvasses to show others what they get joy from. A great session thanks to Marvin and Esther! Site Update We are still waiting for an update on the new build timescale from the Education, Skills and Funding Agency. Please rest assured that the education of our learners is, and will remain, our number one priority at Wootton Park School. As soon as we have further information and timescales on when the work will be completed, we will of course let you know. In the meantime, if you would like to contact the ESFA directly about this please do email Neil Stamps at Neil.STAMPS@education.gov.uk Page 1

Sports Update Sports Award Congratulations to our PE department and all the learners on being awarded the school games bronze award! A fantastic achievement in such a short space of time! Prospective Parents Evenings Thank you to all the learners that helped with our recent year 6 open evenings. We were overwhelmed with the positive comments from those that visited and wish to thank all the learners that supported these events. Year 9 Football League Thomas Becket 1 v WPS 6 A superb team performance from the Year 9s with goals from Fin, Jaidon, Liam and a hat trick from Darren. The squad played fantastically well throughout the entire match. Well done boys! Man of the Match - Noel. Well Done Pippa Pippa was chosen to join two other members of the Northampton Ukulele Group (NUGs) to promote the Northampton Day at Delapre Abbey on Sunday 30th September. She was interviewed on the BBC Radio Northampton Breakfast programme on Tuesday 25th September by Tom and played at various times from 7am until 9am live on the radio. Year 8 Football League WPS 3 v NIA 3 A strong performance on a windy afternoon from the Year 8s. Frustrating not to win, after being 2-0 up, but the boys showed great character to score late on for a share of the spoils. Goals from Shaun 2 and Jonathan. Man of the Match Sam There will be more sporting fixtures this term that we cannot wait to share with you. If parents wish to support their child while taking part in a sporting fixture, they would be most welcome. Please make sure you visit the reception of the school and abide by their visitor rules. Year 2 learners attended a racket festival of badminton Some of our Year 2 learners took part in a racket festival at Benham Sports Arena on Wednesday 26th September. The learners took part in a range of activities to develop their racket abilities. All involved had a lot of fun. We are looking forward to the next event. Enrichment Clubs By using Arbor you can see your child s enrichment clubs. Primary enrichment clubs may change for your child after half term dependant on your bookings. You can check your child s calendar (primary and secondary) using the Arbor system, this can be found in the calendar option. Page 2

More Sports Updates! Year 8 County Cup WPS 2 v Huxlow 2 Huxlow win 3-1 on penalties. Jonathan scored both goals for WPS. Player of the match - Sam Year 9 Football League NSB 5 v WPS 1 Jaidon with the goal. Player of the match - Bobby Year 8 Football League WPS 0 v Duston 6 Players of the match - Jonathan and Phoebe Year 9 Rugby WPS Year 9 beat Northampton Academy in Thursday's rugby festival at Northampton Casuals Rugby Club. The following learners scored tries during the 2 games; Fin 1 Alex 1 Keyaan 2 Jack 1 Jaydon 3 Tennyson 4 Jaidon 5 Fahris 1 Tennyson was voted gentleman of the day for his sportsmanship and manner during the day. Well done boys! Year 9 Girls National Cup Brooke Weston 0 vs Wootton Park School 6 An amazing team performance from the girls who created chances all game. Goals from Bella 3, Josie, Chloe and Lily-Ann. Player of the match goes to Joy! Netball League On Monday, the Year 8 and 9 began their 2018-2019 netball league campaigns with home fixtures against Duston. The Year 9 team had a closely contested game with the girls working exceptionally hard in both attack and defense to leave the half time score at 4-4. The second half saw some end to end netball, however, Wootton Park were just not able to make the most of their chances and Duston finished the game as winners, 7-5. Player of the match was Lucia. In the Year 8 game, Wootton Park played some excellent linking netball and controlled the first half to give themselves a 4-0 lead, Jahnyah and Oyin working hard and shooting well in the Wootton Park attacking D. The second half was a much tighter affair, with both teams scoring 1 goal apiece, however, a solid performance and enough to give Wootton Park a 5-1 victory. Due to two Year 7 home fixtures, there will be no Year 8 and 9 netball club next Wednesday. It will resume as normal after half term. Page 3

Macmillan Cake Sale Thank you for all your support. The Macmillan Cake sale was a huge success and we d like to thank you for your support in donating cakes and coming along to buying them. 573.50 has been raised so far. A big thank you to the PTA for organising this event and the learners for supporting. Car Park Safety Reminder Can we please remind all parents/carers that you should be parking in the sports pavilion car park at school drop off and pick up times. Only those with a blue badge may park in the car park at the front of the school. This is to keep our learners safe when coming in and out of school and to ease congestion. Please be careful when dropping off and collecting your child in the surrounding streets to the school. We have had a few incidents reported to the school and would like to remind drivers to consider learners safety when they are walking this way and parking considerately so as not to upset our neighbours. Please also remind your children about the importance of road safety both walking to school and in the school park. When entering school to collect children from enrichment clubs please be mindful of other clubs still taking place and the safety of all children. Show My Homework All secondary learners will be using show my homework for their home learning. All secondary learners will by now have had their show my homework login details. We hope you find this useful in helping your child with their home learning. Thank you to all those parents that came along to the show my homework information event. If you do have any issues please email school at info@woottonparkschool.org.uk and we will help. Page 4

Creative Times Year 7 summer home learning Challenge Aas part of the Year 7 Summer Home Learning Challenge, learners put their chronological skills to the test to create timelines of their lives so far. The Humanities Department has been amazed by the quality and effort put into this work and all learners have really tried hard and worked well to produce their personalised timelines. We have been displaying these wonderful timelines at our Open Events and have a number on display in the Humanities classrooms. Well done to all of you and keep up the great work Year 7! Miss Brook and Miss Carter Page 5
