GENERAL INFORMATION Please review the TCSAA Tournament Responsibilities Pamphlet for Principals, Coaches, Convenors, Spectators and Student Athletes. In order to create as little inconvenience as possible for the host schools, coaches are reminded to ensure that their players are supervised at all times. Coaches must also remind their players of their responsibilities as guests at the host school. The top team from each division advances to the Regional Finals on November 27th for Boys and November 28th for Girls at Father Henry Carr. Divisional winners will receive a pennant and ribbons. Finalists will receive ribbons. The top two teams from the Regional Finals will advance to the City Volleyball Championships at T.B.A. on December 4th for Boys and December 5th for Girls. The Divisional tournament will include round robin play, and a best 2 out of 3 final. Regional Tournament play will include a three game round robin with a cross over semi final and final. These playoffs will be best 2 out of 3. The first two games are played to 25 points, with a 27 point cap. THE THIRD GAME WILL BE ONE 15 POINT GAME WITH NO CAP. A TEAM MUST WIN BY 2 POINTS. New LATES & FORFEITS: Teams that are late starting their scheduled match (time listed in the booklet) will forfeit 5 points for every block of 5 minutes late (e.g. 7 minutes= 10 points) until a lineup sheet and rotation card has been filled out and 6 players are ready, on the court, to begin play. The opposing team is awarded the points forfeited by the team that is late. The score will reflect this when play begins. A team that misses an entire set/game will loose 25-0. If a team leaves a tournament early all scores against that team will be eliminated from the standings. Only scores from the remaining teams will be considered for standings. PLEASE NOTE: Player benches and score table should be opposite of the referee s stand. Please ensure that all students involved in the tournaments have signed media consent forms on file at school.

TOURNAMENT RULES 1. All matches will be played according to the CVA rules except where stated in this booklet (coaches must be familiar with changes noted within this booklet). 2. Coaches are responsible for the deportment of their players on and off the court. 3. Net height will be 2.05 m for girls and 2.15 m for boys. 4. All players must wear numbered school shirts and shorts. NO TRACK PANTS ARE PERMITTED ON THE COURT. Please ensure your athletes have proper foot wear. 5. All jewellery (earrings including studs, necklaces, rings, bracelets, watches, alligator clips, bobbles, and beads in the hair) must be removed before playing in a game. No bandanas are permitted. 6. Serving: a) The let serve will be used. A let serve is when the serve hits the net but still goes over to the opponent s side of the court. The ball will be in play if it hits the net on the serve and goes over to the other side. b) Servers will have the opportunity to toss the ball and allow the ball to drop once, if they feel that it was not a proper toss. They will be permitted 8 seconds to serve the ball and may only repeat the toss one time. They must not catch the ball if they do not feel that the toss was appropriate to hit, they must let the toss drop and then repeat their service attempt. No third attempt at serve will be permitted. 7. No contact is allowed with any part of the body below the waist. 8. Incidental contact of the net by a player when the ball is in the front or back court will not result in a stop of play unless the player handling the ball contacts the net. Tape is called. 9. Rally scoring will be used. The team that wins each rally, regardless of which team served, scores a point. The team which first scores 25 points with a minimum lead of two points wins a set (game). There is a cap in each set of 27 points so a team can win a game by the final score of 27-26. Playoff games are best 2 out of 3 matches and are played to 25 with a cap of 27 points. THE THIRD GAME, IF NECESSARY, WILL BE A 15 POINT GAME WITH NO CAP. A TEAM MUST WIN BY 2 POINTS. CAPTAINS WILL BE CALLED TO DETERMINE SERVE AND SIDE. TEAMS WILL SWITCH SIDES AT 8 POINTS. 10. Each round robin win is worth one point in your pool. 11. In the event games do not last their scheduled length, site convenors will move matches forward when possible. Teams need to be prepared to play ahead of their scheduled time.

12. There will be 12 unlimited substitutions permitted. This means however, that if you put a substitute in for an original player, the original player is the only person that can replace their substitute. Substitutions take place on the sideline, in front of the attack line. Please have the original player and the substitute line up beside one another and announce the jersey numbers to the score table. The substitution will be allowed after the acknowledgement by the score table. 13. A yellow card is a loss of rally and a point for the opponent. A red card is expulsion for the remainder of the set (game). A red and yellow card jointly issued indicates disqualification for the remainder of the match. 14. The TCSAA will not be allowing the use of the Libero player. 15. In each game, two 30 second time-outs are permitted per team. 16. For Regional competition, the coach must complete line-ups and starting rotations 5 minutes prior to game time. Bring a complete team list (with numbers) to the tournament. Rotation orders can be completed on the small rotational forms at the scorer s table. 17. Teams cannot be eliminated from the playoffs on point differential. 1 rally game of 15 points (17 point cap) will be played between the two teams to determine clear ranking. 18. Warm-up protocol before beginning of each match: approximately 5 minutes; 2 minutes ball handling, 2 minutes hitting, and 1 minute serving. PLEASE NOTE: *Please bring your own practice balls; a First Aid Kit, and Ice Packs *Multiple contact is allowed on a team s first ball contact. *Know the correct procedure for signaling time-outs and substitutions. Any questions over these rules should be addressed to Robert Rivers, West Athletic Association President. robert.rivers@tcdsb.org or 416 393-5246

TIE BREAKING PROCEDURE (O.V.A) If two or more teams within a pool are tied at the end of the preliminary round, the following criteria will be followed in this order: (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) The team having the best ratio of won/lost matches, considering matches between the tied teams, will be ranked higher; The team having the best ratio of won/lost games, considering matches played between the tied teams, will be ranked higher; The team having the best ratio of won/lost games, considering all matches of the round, will be ranked higher; The team having the best ratio of points for/against, considering games played between the tied teams will be ranked higher; The team having the best ratio of points for/against, considering all games played during the round robin will be ranked higher; (f) One tie breaking 15-point rally game will be played (17 point cap) NOTE: (1) Teams will not be eliminated from playoffs due to point ratio. If two teams are tied for one final spot assuming they split their match- one 15-point rally game (17 point cap) will be played to determine a winner. (2) In the case of a 3-way tie for two playoff positions, point ratio will be used to determine the first position. The other 2 tied teams will play one 15 point rally game (17 point cap) to determine the final position. (3) In the case of a 3-way tie for the final playoff position, point ratio will be used to determine team A (the team with the best points ratio), the other two teams will play one 15 point game (17 point cap).
