Tennis News Junior Brown, Director of Tennis A positive approach! So you ve taken the lessons to work on your strokes, you have joined many clinics to play against other players at your level, you re having fun and playing some good tennis. Now comes the match and it all seems to fall apart. That awesome forehand you were hitting with your pro is gone! Plus you re playing against this really good player who should probably be playing a level above you. Yikes! How do you handle all of this? There is a simple answer to the problem. You must take the positive approach to the situation. In other words, every problem I just listed is actually an opportunity in disguise. That forehand that went missing, well, if you can think back to one or two things your pro said to make it work, then you ve just improved as a player. That really good player, well, what better way to test your skills than to play against someone better than you. Plus you get a front row seat to learning what a player on the next level does that you can begin to copy and add to your own game! So always do your best to put a positive spin on any situation you may find yourself in on the court! ADULT BOOGIE NIGHT Friday, April 21 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Come out and meet some new people while getting a fun workout in with some friends. Music to get you moving and courtside drinks to get you grooving! All levels welcome, from the seasoned veteran to new to tennis! FREE FOR ALL Saturday, April 22 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Join us for the FREE FOR ALL. This event is open to all members. Best of all, it is FREE! We will be doing clinics for Adults and Kids ages 11 and up for all ability levels. You can also try out some new racquets. Bring a friend. Sign up today by calling the Tennis Center at (785) 354-8565. KIDS NIGHT OUT Friday, April 28 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Hey kids, join us April 28 for games, activities, tons of fun and food. Check in is at 6:30 p.m., pick up at 9:00 p.m. $20 per child. Children must be 5 years or older. Bring a friend. Sign up now by calling (785) 354-8565! News Kent Morgison, Superintendent We are pleased as a staff to welcome the month of April, as the month brings us into our normal maintenance routine. The zoysia fairways and tees will be greening up, with frequent mowing commencing as well. We have completed greens aerification, and we will do everything in our power to get them back into shape as soon as possible. We also will be adding some staff from now until the end of May as we gear up for another season here at TCC. There are some ongoing projects at the Club that should be nearing completion sometime in April. The tee complex on number 8 has been modified and sodding is complete. To aid in establishment of the turf, we will be fertilizing and topdressing fairly aggressively so that we can open these tees for play when they are ready for traffic. We are hopeful that should be sometime toward the end of April. We are also in the process of constructing 2 forward tees, on holes #1 and #9. Both of the tee locations should add to the overall enjoyment of the round for those that play from these particular set of tees. We would like to have these tees open for play in May. As you can see, we have been busy as spring arrives, with more exciting things to come. We are always looking to improve this already great facility while continuing to strive to provide you with the best possible day-to-day conditions for your enjoyment. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to flag me down. Hope to see you on the fairways soon. 5 The Washburn Women s Tennis Team lined up for introductions during one of their recent matches hosted at here at The Topeka Country Club. #8 Tee after tee top is sodded. Surrounds will be sodded and seeded in places.
