Mentor Public Schools The Cornerstone of the Community Memorial Minutes Once a Cardinal, Always a Cardinal! The mission of the Memorial Middle School community is to effectively challenge and motivate all learners by creating an environment that engages students in academic work that results in a high level of achievement. We are confident that with our support and help, students can master challenging curricula, and we expect them to do so. We are prepared to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents to achieve this shared educational purpose as our students prepare to be part of a dynamic global society. Memorial Families: We are proud of our students who collected almost 500 items for Coats for Kids, in addition, the Memorial staff and students made a $2,775 donation to The United Way prior to Thanksgiving break. Memorial also collected nearly 1,000 canned goods. The students demonstrated their desire and willingness to help community members in need. Memorial will continue its community outreach efforts through additional collection programs and projects during the course of the school year. Memorial s next effort to give back will be in the form of a Holiday Raffle for students, and a separate raffle for staff members. During lunch periods, on December 12th through December 19th, students will have an opportunity to purchase tickets for various raffle baskets. The winners will be announced at the end of the day on December 21st. All monies raised will assist in sponsoring families for the holidays. Our band and choir members showcased their talents at concerts over the last several weeks. The students put on spectacular performances under the guidance of Ms. Driscoll, Mr. Kulma, Mr. Meisel, Mr. McMurtrie and Mr. Yoke. I continue to be impressed with the music programs at Memorial. LATE ARRIVAL: Please call the guidance office at your earliest opportunity to let us know that your child will be late. 440-974-2255 Upon arrival, it is not necessary for the parent/guardian to come into the building. Your child is responsible for going to the Guidance Office for a pass to their class. Please supply your child with a note stating the reason why they were late. Doctor s notes upon arrival are important! LEAVING EARLY: Your child is responsible for bringing a written note with their name, date, reason leaving, a phone number and your signature. Please have your child bring the note to the Guidance Office first thing in the morning before their advisory class. They will be given a pass to leave their class early. The authorized person coming to pick up your child MUST come into the building to get them. That person needs to report to the main office, sign in, and then go to the Guidance Office to pick the child up a and sign them out. The authorized person MUST be in Infinite Campus. Those not in Infinite Campus will not be permitted to take the child out of the building. (No exceptions.) Doctor s notes upon return are important!

IMPORTANT! Parents please read! Visitors to Memorial Starting on Monday, November 5th, all visitors who enter the building must present their driver s license OR state-issued ID at the Main Office (or window). Visitors will be required to exchange their driver's license OR state-issued ID for a lanyard with an accompanying visitor's badge, if you will be entering the building beyond the Main Office. Upon leaving the building, the visitor will return the lanyard and visitor's badge and receive his/her driver s license OR state-issued ID back. Memorial Middle School 8th Grade Washington D.C. Do you like the snow??? Being outside when its cold??? Ski/snowboard club is the club for you. It is open to any 6th/7th/8th grade MMS students. There are lessons each week-so beginners are welcome. The FINAL deadline is WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19 and you will receive your value cards the first night of skiing in January. Forms are available in Mrs. Srp's room 234. Choir Concert Grades 6, 7 and 8 December 6th at 7:00pm in the FAC at Mentor High School. On Monday, December 10th, we will be holding an event called Deck the Halls. Any student interested in decorating the outside of their locker in a winter theme is welcome to stay after school from 3:45-5:30. In order to participate in this event, you will need to provide all of your own supplies, NO GLITTER, and provide a $2 donation. We will have snacks and a movie playing in the cafeteria. You DO NOT need to stay the entire time. When you finish decorating, you can leave. We will meet in the cafeteria at 3:45, collect donations, and discuss our rules for the night. Prizes will be given out for the most creative, fun, neat, winter themed locker. Contact seagroves@mentorschools.org for any questions. Don t miss out! To become a staff member, stop by a meeting - Tuesdays, Dec. 4, 11, and 18 from 3:45-4:15 p.m. The Slam Poetry club is open to all grade and will meet every other Wednesday in Ms. Foschia's room (228). Students will have the opportunity to explore famous poems, write their own pieces, and learn how to perform them in front of others. See Ms. Foschia with any questions! ART CLUB A reminder Art Club is coming up on Wednesday, December 5th. Please come to art room 122 after school and after you have gone to your locker. Pick up time is 5:15.
