Top Hand Awards Top Hand Award includes all Open events except Ranch Dog Trial. Ties for Top Hand Award will be broken with a Special Steer Penning after the last event on Sunday. Fastest time wins. Must enter 2 events on Saturday and 2 events on Sunday to qualify. Points will be awarded up to 10th Place regardless of payout. Top Hand Roper will be for all Roping events, tie breaker will be steer stopping, fastest time wins. Top Hand Sorter will be all sorting events including the Ranch Horse Classes. Top Hand Lady will be the lady with the most points. Contestants will receive points one time per event. 1st-10pts, 2nd-9pts, 3rd-8pts, 4th-7pts, 5th-6pts, 6th-5pts, 7th-4pts, 8th-3pts, 9th-2pts, 10th-1pt. ENTRY DEADLINE RULES & REGULATIONS All Entries DUE Monday, September 10, 2018 Entries turned in after due date will be $25 late fee. Payouts will be distributed at the completion of all events. The purse will be divided in the following manner: Entries Payout 1-10 Winner take all (100%) 11-20 60%, 40% 21-30 50%, 35%, 15% 31-40 40%, 30%, 20%, 10% 41-50 33%, 27%, 20%, 13%, 7% 51 or more 29%, 24%, 19%, 14%, 9%, 5% 50% Payout, $30 per man entry fee. GENERAL RULES 1. It is the responsibility of each contestant to read and comply with all the rules and regulations within the Jimmy Rogers Arena as well as the Kern County Fair Livestock Catalog. 2. Age will be determined as of January 1, 2018 3. Any substitutions must be made to a team 24 hours before the event they are entered in. 4. Entries must be turned in after September 10, 2018 subject to

$25 late fee. 5. There will be a ZERO TOLERANCE for any unnecessary roughness/abuse to any cattle or horses. Contact with any cattle by hands, ropes, or a hat is considered unnecessary roughness and will result in a disqualification. Rommels and reigns may be slapped against hands or chaps. Dally event, no tying on.6. The Management of the Kern County Fair, (including CEO, Deputy Manager, and Livestock Supervisor) and arena Chairmen reserve the right to cancel or change classes at anytime. 7. Contestants must wear proper western attire; boots, cowboy hat, long sleeve shirt or jacket. 8. When possible, an electric timer will be used. 9. Exhibitors, their immediate family and agents thereof, who are not cooperating with security personal or fair officials in all matters of policy, including but not limited to parking, stalls/pens/ space assignments will have their entries canceled and will be ordered to remove their exhibit from the ground immediately and forfeit all monies. Exhibitors, their immediate family and agents thereof, causing public disturbance, those uncooperative and/or unsportsmanlike, those not following good animal welfare practices as determined by management, or those found in violation of rules or in practices inadmissible with the Fair program and/or policies/ procedures shall be penalized. Penalties may include forfeiture of premiums and all awards. Payment of fines and/or damages to State Properties, privileges and/or disqualification at this or subsequent Kern County Fairs as may deemed appropriate by the Fair Management or the Fair s Board of Directors in the case of an official protest. 10. Protests will be considered only if there has been a violation of State or Local Rules specified herein decisions of judges, veterinarian, weigh masters, flaggers and timers cannot be protested and are final. All protests must be presented to the Livestock Office within 24 hours of the alleged violation and must be accompanied by a $200.00 deposit (cash, money order, or certified check) payable to the Kern County Fair. The deposit shall be forfeited if the protest is not sustained. 11. Which will be returned if the protest is determined valid. If the protest relates to violation State Rules X-XI (animal health rules) the deposit will increase to $200.00. Note: if the protest is upheld the violator may be held liable for any portion of any direct costs incurred by the fair in the course of the protests resolution. Failure to reimburse the fair shall be cause disallowing future entries in any of the California Network of Fairs. The exhibitors must participate in all aspects of the protests and must follow all state rules and procedures in filing the protests (see State Rules and Protest section). 12. The owner or custodian of property brought to the Fairgrounds either for exhibit or other purposes assumes as a condition of its admission to the grounds, all risks and/or responsibility for its loss, damage or theft. The Fair, its officers and employees cannot or will not accept responsibility and liability for any damage or injury resulting from theft, fire, the elements, accidents or other conditions or causes; whether to exhibits property of exhibitor, vehicles on the grounds and articles left therein or in any other property of any nature whatsoever. Exhibitors, either through appropriate liability insurance or other means satisfactory to the 15th District Agricultural Association, shall hold the Association Kern County Fair and the volunteers harmless from any claim arising out of the failure of the exhibitor to exercise control of his or her exhibitor s parents or legal guardian are required to sign a disclaimer on the entry form. 13. Safety helmets, although not required for

Junior Open Events is recommended. 14. Muley cattle may be use. JUDGING 1. Mechanical or barrier flag man can be used at the roping shoot. If a barrier flag man is to be used, the animal is to be flagged when crossing the starting line. Barrier judge is to make sure no one stands close enough to the equipment to tamper with it. 2. Once the score line and the length of the box have been set in the timed events, it will not be changed. 3. Field Flagger: If an animal escapes the arena in any timed event, flags will be dropped and time will be stopped. The contestant gets a new animal. A field flag judge must ask the contestant is he/she would like a second loop. Once the contestant has been flagged out, contestant will not receive stock back. 4. The timers and barrier may not be changed during the course of the event. Flagger makes the call and the Jimmy Rogers Ranch Rodeo Committee will back the flagger. DISQUALIFICATION 1. Contestants shall be disqualified in all events for the remainder of the rodeo for the following offenses at the rodeo: Being under the influence of alcohol Quarreling in or around the arena Mistreatment of livestock Cheating or attempting to cheat 2. If the contestant is not ready to compete when called upon three (3) times, contestant will be disqualified for that event. 3. Contestant can only be disqualified after a call with a committee member present. 4. Parental interference will not be tolerated. Violation will result in disqualifications at judge s discretion. ANIMAL CARE AND SAFETY 1. Animals for all events will be inspected before the contest, and no sore, lame, sick, or injured animal or animals with defective eyesight shall be permitted in the draw at any time. Should an animal become sick or injured between the draw and the performance then the animal will be replaced. 2. No animal will be beaten, mutilated, or cruelly prodded. Animals shall only be touched in the shoulder or hip area. 3. Contestants will be disqualified for any mistreatment of horses or livestock. 4. Any animal that becomes excessively excited so that it gets down in the chute repeatedly, tries repeatedly to jump the chute, or in anyway appears to be in danger of injuring itself, should be released immediately.

Friday, September 21, 2018 Division 921: Ranch Horse Entry Fee: $30 Per Person RULES: 1. Rider will: Enter arena 2. Greenhorn Run down the arena, stop, make a 1/2 right turn Run down the arena, stop, make a 1/2 left turn Run to center, back up, full turn in each direction Steer Enters arena, steer is boxed on the end, taken down the fence and turned at least once in each direction Steer is then penned in the arena pen After Penning, the steer is released and the rider ropes and steer stops him Two loops, around neck and front leg legal 1. Open Class: Anyone who trains horses for money 2. Greenhorn Class: Will not have to take down the fence or rope 3. If you are entered in any roping class prior to this event, you are considered an open rider. The committee reserves the right to move rider to open class if deemed necessary. 4. Five (5) minute time limit. Division 911: Team Branding 2. Ladies 3. Junior Entry Fee: $90 Per Team ($30/per person) RULES: 1. Teams will consist of four (4) members. Two (2) ropers and two (2) ground crew. Ropers will switch with grounds crew on second half. Contestants must change at least two partners each go. 2. Each team will rope and brand half head of cattle before switching. 3. Ground crew is to remain in designated area until calf is roped, and stretched. 4. Calf must be

headed before it can be heeled 5. Branding iron cannot be removed from paint bucket until both front and back legs are secure on calf - Calf must be branded on the designated side with iron in the correct position 6. Time is called when branding iron is returned to the bucket after branding the second calf. Five (5) minute time limit. 7. Ladies: Two (2) ropers must be female, you pick ground crew. Ropers stay on horses. 8. Junior: (2) Ropers must be 17 years and under in age, you pick ground crew. Ropers stay on horses.

Saturday, September 22, 2018 Division 912: Sort and Rope Entry Fee: $60 Per Team ($30/per person) RULES: 1. Teams will consist of two (2) members. Contestants must change partners each go. 2. Time starts when team crosses line in middle arena 3. Team will ride to the end of the arena where they will enter a small pen and bring one steer out of the pen into the arena. 4. Gate must be shut before team can head and heel the steer. 5. Allowing more than one steer in the arena at any time is a no time. 6. 5 second penalty will be added for one hind leg catch 7. Legal head catches: Neck and 1 front leg. If using muleys, only legal head catch is slick neck. 3 Loop limit. Division 913: 3 Man Doctoring Entry Fee: $90 Per Team ($30/per person) RULES: 1. Teams will consist of three (3) members. Contestants must change 1 partner each go. 2. Three (3) Teams will compete at same time. 3. Team must head and heel steer, put ropes on both front and both back feet, then mark head with chalk. 4. A roper may dismount to help get animal on ground but cannot tie off 5. Third member must remount their horse to call for time - 3 minute time limit 6. Legal head catches: Neck and 1 front leg. If using muleys, only legal head catch is slick neck. 3 Loop limit, 1 loop per roper Division 914: Reverse Team Roping Entry Fee: $60 Per Team ($30/per person) RULES: 1. Teams will consist of two (2) members. Contestants must change partners each go. 2. Time will start and steer will be released when roper crosses line. 3. Time will stop when steer is headed, heeled, and ropers facing steer. 4. Legal head catches: Neck, and 1 front leg.. If using muleys, only legal head catch is slick neck. 3 Loop limit. 5. 1 Hind leg caught will be 5 second penalty. Division 915: Mixed Ribbon Roping Entry Fee: $60 Per Team ($30/per person) RULES: 1. Two-person team, one man one woman. Either person can rope. 2. Roper will come from the roping

box. Partner must start from a designated area pull the ribbon or part of it off the steer s tail and return to the designated starting point. 3. Steer must be standing when ribbon is pulled. 4. One loop only. One minute time limit. Open catch pen. Division 916: Steer Stopping Entry Fee: $30/per person RULES: 1.Steer Stopping Roper will start from behind a line. 2. When roper crosses line time will start and steer will be released from roping chute. 3. Three legal head catches - horn, 1/2 head, and neck. 4. Time will stop when steer is facing horse and are on all four feet. Jerking cattle down over backwards will be automatic disqualification. One run only. One loop. Open catch pen.

Division 917: Trailer Loading Entry Fee: $60 Per Team($30/per person) Sunday, September 23, 2018 RULES: 1. Teams will consist of two (2) members. Contestants must change partners each time. 2. Load horses in the trailer, contestants load in the truck. 3. Flag drops, contestants exit truck, unload horses, and mount. 4. Load two (2) steers in the trailer and close gate for a time. 5. Five (5) minute time limit. 6. Slamming trailer gate will result in a No Time. 7. Trailer and Panels will be set. Division 918: In and By Entry Fee: $60 Per Team($30/per person) RULES: 1. Teams will consist of two (2) members. Contestants must change partners each time. 2. Within 1 1/2 minute time limit, team must sort 10 numbered cattle, placed in the alley, into even and odd designated pens. 3. Time will start when the flag is dropped and time will stop when the last cow s tail crosses the same place. 4. No times will result in the following: If any even marked animal enters the odd pen, or vice versa If any animal exits the pen after entering Division 919: 3 Man Line Sorting Entry Fee: $60 Per Team ($30/per person) RULES: 1. Teams will consist of three (3) members. Contestants must change 1 partners each time. Cattle will be sorted in numerical succession from number called by announcer. Any number out of order will result in a no time. 3. Must cross line in arena. 4. 2 minute time limit. Division 920: Ranch Penning Entry Fee: $120 Per Team ($40/per person) RULES: 1. Teams will consist of three (3) members. Contestants must change at least one partner. 2. Team will pen 3 out of 30 cattle. 3. More than 3 dirty cattle across score line will be disqualified. 4. Must raise hand for time after cattle are penned. 5. All wrong numbered cattle must be back across score line before flag Drop. 6. Two (2) minute time limit.

Monday, September 24, 2018 Division 922: Ranch Dog Trial Entry Fee: $30/per person 1. Lift and Gather The handler has 2 minutes to complete the lift and gather. The handler can cross the line to assist the dog before the 2 minute time limit is reached, however the 10 points will be automatically be deducted from the points possible. If the cattle do not cross the line by the 2 minute limit, the handler can help the dog bring the cattle back in, but no points will be received. 2. An Obstacle is considered complete when one or more of the cattle pass beyond the exit plane. Each of the 3 obstacles must be completed in the order specified before event. Points will be awarded on the number of cattle that pass through each obstacle. If any obstacle is attempted and no cattle pass through the obstacle, the handler may re-attempt the obstacle one time. 3. If any animal enters an obstacle from the wrong direction, it must be put through again correctly. 4. Trotting Rule Handlers may trot their horses. If the handler does not trot their horse throughout the course and completes the course in the allotted time, the handler will receive an additional 5 points. All dogs must be under control at all times while on the grounds. If a contestant s dog enters the course while another dog is competing, the contestant who owns the dog may be disqualified from the entire trial or the class the dog is in. The decision will be made by the committee and/or Trial Judge. Any dog entered in the trial may not be used to handle or settle the livestock. If an unattended dog enters the arena while a handler is participating, the Trial Judge may issue the handler a re-run. ONLY DOGS PARTICIPATING IN THE TRIAL ARE ALLOWED INSIDE THE KERN COUNTY FAIR..
