We have received eleven nominations for the upcoming Board of Management elections to be held on Saturday 31 May 2014 at Elphin Sports Centre in Launceston. Five nominations will be elected by the Constituent Associations Members (CAMs) at the Special General Meeting (SGM) with an additional two appointed persons from the Board of Management once it is formed. The Chairman will also be elected once the Board is formed. We anticipate that the agenda for Saturday 31 May will be: 10.30am to 12.30pm Association Guest Speaker No1. 1.30pm to 3.30pm Association Guest Speaker No2. 4.00pm to 5.00pm Special General Meeting Election of Board. During the day the State Development Program (Camp 5) will be on the floor and in the evening the Launceston Tornadoes have a home game. As a further summary of the process of the election, the following shall apply: Voting papers shall be prepared containing the names of the candidates in order drawn by ballot, for each vacancy on the Board. The voting shall be conducted using the exhaustive preferential ballot method, and shall be by secret ballot papers prepared by the CEO. Candidates must receive 50% plus 1 of the available votes to be elected. The election will need to be balloted out until we have 5 elected members. Craig Brakey Burnie TAS Knowledge and experience to be able to contribute to the further progression of basketball in Tasmania. Current owner and manager of Wagyu Pie Company and Bakehouse in Devonport. Current owner and manager of Grangemore Park Pty Ltd farming property, breeding for beef for pie operation, thoroughbred horse stud - training and breeding of horses for racing. Former owner and operator of McDonalds in Burnie for 19 years and Ulverstone for 5 years, employing over 250 people during that time and winning numerous sales and operations awards from McDonalds Australia. Current Board and Committee roles with Ronald McDonald House Ball Committee (Chairman) and Marist Old Scholars. Former Executive Board roles with Northwest Thunder Basketball Club (Chairman, 4 years), Burnie Dockers Football Club (Vice Chairman, 4 years) and Tasmanian McDonalds Co op (Chairman, 4 years).
Lou Cox Burnie TAS Lifetime in basketball since being a foundation member as part of Burnie in the North West Basketball Union in 1974. Life member of Basketball Tasmania, North West Basketball Union, Burnie Basketball Association and Montello Basketball Club. Current Basketball Tasmania President for the past 5 years overseeing the recent Governance Reviews and changing landscape of Tasmanian basketball. Basketball Tasmania Board Member for 13 years. North West Basketball Union President for 31 years. Experience in many areas of the game - State Team Head Coach, Chairman of organising committee for National Championships, Junior team coach, refereeing and scoretable.
Dr Michael Craw Leslie Vale TAS Currently lecturing at the University of Tasmania Tasmanian School of Business and Economics. Unit Coordinator Bachelors degree programmes and Unit Coordinator Masters of Business Administration programme. 35 years of scholarly, managerial and industry experiences. Board Member and Volunteer CEO of the Mat Goggin Foundation a Charitable Scholarship Trust in support of Tasmanian youth. Director Golf Preserve Pty Ltd: a proposed integrated Sport and Recreation and Residential Development at Seven Mile Beach in Tasmania valued at $200M. Previously a Professor at North Dakota State University (Sports Management) and Teaching Fellow at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore (Sports Management). Author of several research documents, books and publications involving basketball, golf, sport, Olympics, marketing and other related topics. Publications released to education systems in Australia, South Africa, United Kingdom, Sweden, USA, Canada and Singapore. Coached basketball at all levels in Australia, Singapore National Basketball League and at the High School level in the United States.
David Fagan Rosny TAS 13 years of experience in Executive Leadership roles with Westpac across multiple retail, commercial and operational business units. Development and delivery of key strategic planning and change management programs. Strength in leadership, people management and developing sustained high performance culture. Recently employed as State General Manager for Westpac in Tasmania. 27 years with the bank progressing through several managerial roles. Board Member of Tas Air Rescue Trust (WBC Rescue Helicopter) and Haemophilia Foundation Tasmania. Currently studying Sports Management and Recreation at University of Tasmania. Several other qualifications obtained including Diploma of Financial Planning, Professional Diploma of Human Resources and Graduate Certificate of Corporate Management. Annette Lutwyche Launceston TAS Current member of Basketball Tasmania Council (3 years), member of Basketball Tasmania Finance Committee (2 years) and executive member of the Northern Tasmania Amateur Basketball Association. Currently employed as Tasmanian Education Department Teachers Aide and Family Based Care Holiday Program Carer/Companion. 26 years of experience working for the Commonwealth Bank. Vast knowledge of basketball both as a coach, scoretable personnel and administrator over many years. Former member of the Basketball Tasmania Competitions Commission. Tasmanian scoretable representative in 2011 and 2013. Life Member of Japara Basketball Club and Northern Tasmania Basketball Association.
David Mole Lenah Valley TAS Current State Manager with Federal Department of Human Services (DHS) Ten years in various managerial roles with the Federal Department of Human Services. Junior Basketball Coach at many levels and previously State League Netball Coach. Board level experience with Hobart Chargers in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL). Previous state (9 years) and Australian (5 time) men s netball representative. Daughter is in the Basketball Tasmania High Performance Program.
David Munns Latrobe TAS Current Regional Coordinator Cradle Coast for the Active After-school Communities (AASC) which is funded by the Australian Sports Commission. Daily works with local clubs and State Sporting Organisation across all sports and physical activity pursuits providing a statewide best practice knowledge. Extensive management, administrative and financial management experience including working with Federal, State and Local Governments. Former State Director of Coaching with Basketball Tasmania for 8 years (2000-July 2008). Vast basketball experience conducting coaching programs and clinics and introductory basketball days. Australian Male Basketball Coach of the Year (first Tasmanian to receive this award). Qualifications include Bachelor of Human Movement, FIBA (World Governing Body for Basketball) certified coach and FIBA expert and Certificate IV Training and Assessment. Participated in overseas study basketball study tours to USA, Spain, Turkey, China, Lithuania and Serbia Montenegro. On behalf of FIBA Asia delivered the first FIBA Level 1 Coaching Course for the Vietnamese Basketball Federation.

Involved in basketball for 48 years as a player, coach and administrator. Current President of the City of Launceston Basketball Club (5 years). During playing career - represented Queensland in Under 20 s and Men s levels, played in Scotland and began playing in Launceston in 1989.

NCAS Level Association Basketball Coach, Former NITP Network Coach and Assistant Coach of State Teams (including bronze medal with the U18 Boys in 2013).
