4-H Exhibition WHO MAY ENTER Divisions are open to ages 9 or older HOW TO ENTER Entry Dates: Entries Senior: 4-H Members ages 14-18 Junior: 4-H Members ages 9-13 Entries close at 4:00pm October 12th Please call 251-344-4573 to schedule a time to drop off entries. Must be made under the name of the individual who created it. Do not use business/school or fictitious names. The only team entries are the club decorating contest. Exhibits are placed using the American Judging System where exhibits are ranked one against another. Awards will be made if, in the opinion of the jury, the items entered have sufficient merit. 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place and Honorable Mention may be awarded in each class if judges so determine. 2

Awards The judges will select award winners from accepted entries that were confirmed after delivery. Judges The judges are qualified professional chosen by the exhibit chairperson. All judging is final. Judging Results Results can be viewed online at www.mobilefair.com by the opening of the Fair or inperson at the GGSF Exhibition Gallery during public hours of the Fair Reassignment of Entry Department/Lot Judges and/or the Exhibit Chairman have the option of reassigning an entry to a more appropriate department or lot. However, it is the responsibility of the exhibitor to enter their work in the appropriate class. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. Classes or Departments may be combined to create an adequate judging pool. Disqualified Entries If an entry is disqualified after judging is complete, the judge will not change the status of awards given for other entries. HOW TO PREPARE FOR EXHIBITION Delivery Dates You may drop off entries between October 8 th 12 th between 10am and 4pm. All entries must be labeled and ready for drop off. HOW TO PICK UP YOUR ENTRY AFTER THE FAIR Pickup Dates: Tuesday, November 13 th, 10:00am 4:00pm Wednesday, November 14 th, 10:00am 4:00pm No exhibit shall be removed in whole or in part during the period of the Fair. Exhibits which are not claimed by 4:00pm on Wednesday, November 14 th will be delivered to the 4H Extension agent. The Greater Gulf State Fair is not responsible for exhibits left after this date. WHAT IF I GET AN AWARD? Display Accepted entries will be displayed in the Exhibit Gallery with any awards received. Please do not call or email for competition results. Award Awards will be available during pick up hours to the exhibitor whose name is indicated on the entry form. 3

Best of Show: $20.00 and Rosette Note: only one Best of Show awarded in Department 71 JUDGING GUIDELINES 1. Photography is defined as photographic compositions created solely to express the aesthetic vision of the artist. Photographs will be judged for their beauty, composition, meaningfulness, and technical skill. 2. Read Competition Guidelines. Changes are made each year. Review the Fine Arts Rules/Guidelines below at the end of this guide and the GGSF General Rules found on the website. Non-compliance will disqualify your entry. 3. Exhibitors are solely responsible for reading the competition guidelines and rules, and entering their items in the correct Departments/Lots. Incorrect entries may result in disqualification and may not be exhibited. If you need assistance determining the Department and/or Lot, please see the Need Help Section on page 3 of this guidebook for guidance on ways to find assistance. 4. Entries must be made personally by the exhibitor. Original work only. No kits, direct copies of original artworks, classroom assignments (excluding School/Instructional Division) or group work will be accepted. 5. Artwork must be original and completed within the last two years. 6. Artwork exhibited at any prior GGSF is not eligible for entry and will not be accepted. 4

7. Due to the family-oriented theme of the GGSF, no exhibit dealing with drug use, obscenity, defamatory statements, violence or gang activity, satanic or cult theme, or other offensive or objectionable content will be accepted. This at the discretion of the Exhibits Chairman and Fair management. 8. Final acceptance of the entry for judging and exhibition will be left to the discretion of the Exhibit Chairman. All decisions of the Exhibit Chairman are final. RULES/NOTES: 2. Photos may be color, sepia or black and white 3. Prints must be 5 x 7 or larger. They may be no larger than 18 x 18 4. You must use a film or digital camera 5. If you need to lighten your photo or fix the color, you may make small changes using computer or in the darkroom 6. Do not submit photos in frames or cut-out mat boards. Photos should be simply mounted flat on plain white or black poster board or foam board. 7. Maximum mount board size is 20 x 20 8. One photo per entrant 9. Photos must have been taken by the youth who is submitting the entry 10. Photos must have been taken during the current calendar year 11. Photos must be laid flat on a table for judging. No easels or props may be used. 12. To be eligible to participate in a 4-H event at the Greater Gulf State Fair you must be enrolled as an official member and in a chartered 4-H club by August 1 st of the current year. The Mobile County Extension Office must have your 4-H enrollment form on file by September 1 st. 13. Please note Entry Dates on page 2 of this guidebook 5

Your entire art must be constructed from Lego s or other toy building blocks 3. Art cannot be wider than 12 x 15 and taller than 16 4. Your art will be placed on a table and viewed from all sides 5. Art must be transported on a firm, flat surface like foam board or plywood. Consider gluing or temporary attachment of tape to keep the structure secure. 6. To be eligible to participate in a 4-H event at the Greater Gulf State Fair you must be enrolled as an official member and in a chartered 4-H club by August 1 of the current year. The Mobile County Extension Office must have your 4-H enrollment form on file by September 1 st. 7. Please note Entry Dates on page 2 of this guidebook. 6

Birdhouse can t be any larger than 18 x 18 X 18 3. Birdhouses must not make noises. 4. You must create an original design and do all the construction yourself 5. You may not use a kit or build from an existing birdhouse 6. To be eligible to participate in a 4-H event at the Greater Gulf State Fair you must be enrolled as an official member and in a chartered 4-H club by August 1 of the current year. The Mobile County Extension Office must have your 4-H enrollment form on file by September 1 st. 7. Please note Entry Dates on page 2 of this guidebook. 7

GGSF will provide cactus form and can be picked up from GGSF from 10am to 4pm between September 3 rd and 7 th. 3. Teams must create an original design and do all the decorating as a team on the GGSF provided cactus form. 4. To be eligible to participate in a 4-H event at the Greater Gulf State Fair you must be enrolled as an official member and in a chartered 4-H club by August 1 of the current year. The Mobile County Extension Office must have your 4-H enrollment form on file by September 1 st. 5. Please note Entry Dates on page 2 of this guidebook. 8
