Friendship Cup Sunday, 10 th February 2019 NOTICE OF RACE An invitation is extended to members of LMYC and NCYC to represent their Club and race in an inshore keelboat regatta on local waters. Hosted by the Club who currently holds the Friendship Cup, this Americas Cup style regatta aims to provide top level racing in a friendly competition between the two clubs. 10 th February 2019 Racing will be conducted in Belmont Bay of Lake Macquarie on NCYC s fleet of evenly-matched Force 24 s - inshore keelboats with symmetrical spinnakers, carrying a crew four (4) sailors. Friendship Cup Sunday, 10 th February 2019 NOTICE OF RACE 1. ORGANISING AUTHORITY 1.1 The Organising Authority (OA) is the Lake Macquarie Yacht Club (LMYC) in conjunction with the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club (NCYC). 2. VENUE 2.1 The series will be held from the Lake Macquarie Yacht Club, Ada Street Belmont. Racing will be conducted on the waters of Lake Macquarie in the vicinity of Belmont Bay. 3. RULES 3.1 The regatta will be governed by: The rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020 ( RRS ) of World Sailing; The Australian Sailing prescriptions and special regulations of ( Special Regulations ) This Notice of Race Except as any of these are modified by the Sailing Instructions. 3.2 The Terms & Conditions for Borrowing an NCYC Force 24 Boat shall apply as rules and will apply at all times while sailing. 4. CHANGES TO THE RACING RULES OF SAILING 4.1 RRS 44.2 is amended in that only one turn, including one tack and one gybe, is required. 4.2 Add to RRS 41: (e) help to recover from the water and return on board a crew member provided the return on board is at the approximate location of the recovery. 5. ELIGILIBITY 5.1 Each Club shall provide two (2) teams to compete. 5.2.1 For LMYC teams, each crew (including the helmsperson) shall be a current Sailing member of the Lake Macquarie Yacht Club. 5.2.2 For NCYC teams, each crew (including the helmsperson) shall be a current Crew or General member of the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club. 5.3 All sailors shall hold current Australian Sailing membership. 5.4 The number of crew on a Team (including the skipper) shall be four (4). 5.5 the helmsperson for each race shall not change between the Preparatory Signal and the Finish. That is, the helmsperson may change between races. 6. ENTRIES 6.1 Teams may apply to be invited by completing the online application form on the event webpage: https://www.ncyc.net.au/sailing/inshore-racing/ 6.2 Applications must be received by 1200hrs Monday 4 th February 2019. 6.3 Applications will be evaluated by the Sailing Committee of each Club and successful applicants will receive confirmation via email. 6.4 Entry fee: $160 (Inc. GST) per team. 6.5 Any team members under the age of 18 years on the first day of racing will be required to have their parent/guardian complete the Parental Consent section of the Entry Form.

7. COMMUNICATIONS 7.1 Regatta communications will be via LMYC and NCYC Websites and also in hard copy pinned to the LMYC notice board 8. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS 8.1 The event shall be run as fleet racing with windward/leeward courses described in the Sailing Instructions. Target time for the first boat to finish will be approximately 20 minutes. 8.2 There shall be a maximum of ten (10) races. 8.3 The schedule is as follows: Date Time Description Sunday, 10 th February 2019 0930 hrs Briefing in the LMYC Clubhouse, Boat Allocations 1100hrs 1500hrs ASAP after racing First Warning Signal Last Warning Signal Prize giving Ceremony 9. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 9.1 Sailing Instructions will be posted on the event webpage by 1700hrs Wednesday 6 th February 2019 and copies will be available at Registration. 10. SUPPLIED YACHTS 10.1 The boats to be used for the series will be the NCYC s Force 24 class boats and will be complaint with Category 7 of the Australian Sailing Special Regulations. 10.2 Four (4) boats will be provided 10.3 One Mainsail, Jib and Spinnaker will be provided with each boat. 10.4 Boats will be allocated to teams by the Race Committee. 11. SCORING 11.1 The Low Point scoring system, Appendix A of the RRS will apply. 11.2 The minimum races to constitute a series will be four (4). 12. RADIO COMMUNICATION 12.1 Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats. 12.2 The race frequency will be VHF Channel 71. 13. PRIZES 13.1 The Friendship Cup perpetual trophy shall be awarded to the first placed Club. 13.2 Prizes will be presented to 1st place overall. 13.3 Other prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the OA. 14. COACH & SUPPORT BOATS 14.1 Coach and/or Support boats shall conspicuously display identification of the team being coached. 14.2 Teams with coach boats must notify the OA at Registration. 14.3 Any interference by a coach/support boat with the racing or event organisation may result in a penalty applied at the discretion of the Protest Committee to the associated skipper or team.

15. ADVERTISING 15.1 As boats and equipment will be supplied by the OA, World Sailing regulation 20.4 (see RRS 80) applies. 15.2 The OA reserves the absolute right to require any competitor to remove advertising displayed by competitors on clothing, equipment (while racing or attending official functions), on boats to anywhere within the boundary of the series venue which may be in contravention of moral decency or government regulation. 15.3 Boats shall not be permitted the right to protest for infringements of any rules regarding advertising (amends RRS 60.1) 15.4 Competitors may be required to wear clothing displaying the event sponsors name(s)/logo(s). If required these items will be supplied by the OA and worn whilst racing. 16. MEDIA, IMAGES & SOUND 16.1 The conditions of entry include that competitors acknowledge that the OA owns all media rights to the event and may exercise those rights as it sees fit and that the OA has the unconditional perpetual right to publish and broadcast, for the purpose of promoting sailing and the NCYC and LMYC in any media, photographs and video and audio recordings taken of boats and competitors during the event. 17. DISCLAIMER 17.1 All those participating in the series do so at their own risk and responsibility. Competitors must acknowledge this prior to competing and release the NCYC, LMYC and their sponsors and their respective officers, employees, volunteers and members from all liability by signing a form provided by the OA. 17.2 Specific attention is drawn to RRS Fundamental Rule 4, which states: The responsibility for a boat s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone 17.3 The OA and all others involved in the management and conduct of the event shall not be liable for loss, damage, inconvenience, injury or death as a result of participation or intended participation in the event howsoever caused. 18. I/we certify that the abovementioned participant is able to swim a minimum of 50 meters and support himself/herself in the water for a minimum of five (5) minutes without assistance. I/we further certify that the abovementioned participant is physically able to participate in the activity, including recovery from the water to a support boat if necessary.

I/we allow the Organising Authority to use any photographs taken of the abovementioned participant for the purpose of promotion of sailing and the Organising Authority to the media and the general public, including such mediums as the Organising Authority website and social media sites. I/we acknowledge and accept that sailing activities are a risk activity. I/we have read and understood the Risk Warning issued by the Organising Authority (available on the NCYC website) and I/we voluntarily assume all risks involved with this sailing activity. I/we authorise the Organising Authority to obtain emergency medical assistance it considers necessary in case of injury or accident. I/we advise the Organising Authority, as detailed below, of any medical condition(s) of the abovementioned participant. In consideration of the Organising Authority allowing the participant to engage in the sailing activity and at my request, I/we hereby release and indemnify the Organising Authority and its agents, servants, invitees and members from and against all actions, claims, demands, losses, damages, costs and expenses in respect of or arising from any loss, damage, death or personal injury in respect to or arising from the sailing activities of the Organising Authority. Participants are also advised that although the Organising Authority is covered by third party public liability insurance, this cover DOES NOT extend to participants. TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR BORROWING AN NCYC FORCE 24 1. ORGANISATION 1.1 The OA reserves the right to cancel this licence if it observes or has reason to believe the terms & condition of borrow are not being followed. 2. BOAT ALLOCATION and RULES 2.1 Boats and sails will be allocated by the OA. 2.2 The boats must be used as presented and no modifications may be made to the boat (including sponsor logos). Standing rigging tension has been pre-set and must not be altered. Sails as supplied must not be re-cut or altered. 3. PROHIBITED ITEMS and ACTIONS 3.1 Any additions, omissions or alterations to the equipment supplied. 3.2 The use of any equipment for a purpose other than that intended. 3.3 The use of sails other than what is provided by the NCYC 3.3 The replacement of any equipment provided. 3.4 Sailing the boat in a manner that it is reasonable to predict damage would result. 3.5 Boarding a boat without prior permission. 3.6 Taking a boat from its berth without having paid the event entry fee and damage deposit. 3.7 Detaching the towline from the bow of the boat. 3.8 Hauling out a boat or cleaning surfaces below the waterline. 3.9 Using a flattener as a reef. 3.10 Attaching lines to the fabric of spinnakers. 3.11 Perforating sails, even to attach tell tales. 3.12 Adjusting or altering the tension of standing rigging. 3.13 Using a winch to adjust the mainsheet. 3.14 Cross winching headsail car sheets. 3.15 Omitting any headsail car or turning block before sheeting onto a winch. 3.16 Hiking off winch handles. 3.17 Cutting any cords or ropes. 3.18 The use of electronic instruments other than compass and watches. 3.19 Sailing with the spinnaker head above the main gooseneck as the boat passes through head to wind. 3.20 Putting permanent marks on the boats or sheets. 3.21 Using side stays to facilitate roll-tacking. 3.22 Leaving any rubbish or personal items on-board after racing. 3.23 Hiring a boat while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 3.24 Smoking while on the boat. 4. PERMITTED ITEMS and ACTIONS 4.1 Taking a bag on board containing. (a) Basic hand tools (b) Adhesive tape (c) Line (elastic or otherwise of 4mm diameter or less) (d)telltale material (e) Hand held compass (f) Shackles and Clevice pins 4.2 The use of the contents of the bag to: (a) Prevent fouling of lines, sails and sheets (b) Attach tell tails (c) Prevent sails being damaged or falling overboard. (d) Mark control settings (e) Make minor repairs.

5. MANDATORY ITEMS and ACTIONS The following shall be mandatory: 5.1 To sign out the allocated boat on the Sign Out form in the Sailing Academy Barge and the completion of a written damage form before leaving the boat and submitting it to the NCYC, even if no damage or loss is recorded (ie. Note that no damage occurred, or repairs required). 5.2 At the end of each sailing day: (a) rolling, bagging and placement of the sails as directed. (b) leaving the boat in the same state of cleanliness as when first boarded that day. (c) placing the boat covers back on and hosing down the boats at the end of each session 5.3 At the end of each day the crew shall clean the boat, remove all rubbish and remove all tape marks. 5.4 Compliance with any regulations, including speed restrictions and navigation marks, while leaving or returning to the berth or mooring. 5.5 Infringement of items 5.1 and 5.2 will be considered as damage and the cost of rectification will be deducted from the damage deposit. 5.6 Wearing an approved buoyancy aid at all times while on-board the boats. 5.7 Borrower must carry and monitor a handheld VHF radio on Ch 71 at all times while on-board. 6. DAMAGE EXCESS 8.1 The damage excess is $1000 (inc. GST) per boat per incident. 8.2 The damage excess is the limit of liability of each skipper for each incident. However, if the damage is between two boats where both boats are severely damaged and require insurance claims to repair the damage, the skipper who has been penalised may be required to pay the damage deposit for both boats (as instructed by the Protest Committee). 8.3 In the event that a skipper is liable to pay for damages, the amount shall be charged to the skipper s nominated credit card by the NCYC. 9. SAFETY EQUIPMENT 9.1 Safety equipment; Bucket Set of 2 x paddles Emergency knife and torch Anchor downstairs attached to mast base Portable navigation lights First aid kit Sound signalling device Each boat competing under this borrowing agreement from the NCYC will be YA Special Regulation Category 7 compliant.
