HOW TO FOLLOW Monday s game vs. the Tritons will feature Live Stats and a Pay-Per-View Webcast produced by UCSD. THE RECORD WWU is off to a 7-0 start to the season and 2-0 in league play opened GNAC play last week with road wins over Saint Martin s (91-78) and Seattle Pacific (96-91 OT) one of 16 teams with a perfect record so far this season (as of NCAA stats sent out earlier this week), and one of 9 teams with a perfect mark with at least 7 wins. GNAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Taylor Stafford was named the GNAC Player of the Week for Nov. 28-Dec. 4, averaging 29.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 3.5 steals in helping lead WWU to a pair of GNAC wins to open the conference schedule he scored a career-high 30 points against Saint Martin s last Thursday for the season, Stafford leads WWU in points per game (18.6), rebounds per game (7.0), assists per game (6.0) and steals per game (2.29). CHUCK RANDALL CLASSIC WWU went 2-0 with wins over Fresno Pacific and Quest in the 14th Chuck Randall Classic held November 26-27 at Whatcom Pavilion Alaska also went 2-0 in the tournament with wins over FPU and Quest Jeffrey Parker was named the tournament MVP and Daulton Hommes was selected to the All-Tournament Team the tournament is named in honor of former WWU coach Chuck Randall, who earned school and national hall of fame honors during his 18-year career at WWU from 1963 to 1981 Randall passed away on March 9, 2016 at the age of 89. THAT S INTERESTING the Vikings were defeated 109-103 in an exhibition game at the University of Washington on Nov. 3 although only an exhibition game that did not count, the 103 points allowed by the Huskies were tied for the 6th-most dating back to 1996 (regular season games) and the 2nd-most allowed by a Lorenzo Romar team Jeffrey Parker scored a game-high 28 points to lead five Vikings in double-figure scoring (Stafford-23, Hommes-14, Drechsel-13, Kingma-11). LOCAL CONNECTIONS the 2016-17 Vikings roster features two players from Whatcom County in redshirt freshman guard Daulton Hommes and sophomore center Logan Schilder Hommes, a graduate of Lynden Christian High School, redshirted last season while Schilder, a graduate of Bellingham High School and the second 7-footer in the history of the Western Washington men s basketball, joins Western Washington after one year at Whatcom Community College. THE RETURNERS senior forward Jeffrey Parker and sophomore Trey Drechsel are the returning starters for Western Washington Parker ranks No. 11 all-time on the scoring list at Western Washington and has started every game each of the last two seasons Drechsel appeared in 19 games with 16 starts last season junior guards Brett Kingma, Blake Fernandez and Brad Wallace, along with junior forward Evan Scholten, also return after each logging substantial minutes last season.
