Dr. Jimmy Bowser Principal Dr. Sara Kriesel-Hall Michael DeMakas Roberto Dominguez Robin Phillips Christina Kiefer January 25, 2019 Happy Friday Faubion Family, I hope you all had a good week. All is great here at FMS. It s a bit quiet in the building today because we have about 300 kids that are out doing the Fine Arts recruiting fair. This is an annual event that they do each year to recruit kids into Band, Orchestra and/or Choir. This year we visited our feeder campuses where we have the largest number of incoming 6 th graders Burks, Caldwell, Malvern, Valley Creek, and Walker Elementary schools. These 5 campuses account for about 80% of our incoming 6 th grade population. Christie Thompson We do want all of our incoming 6 th grade students to be able to see our fine arts and other programming. Fine Arts puts on a Tour de Arts during Open House. It is wildly popular! So please be sure to come out for that program. It runs concurrently with Open House and is from 5pm- 6:45 in the Fine Arts Hallway. The 11th Annual Faubion Orchestra Silent Auction and Dinner Concert will be Tuesday, January 29 in the Faubion Cafeteria from 5-7:30. Enjoy music from Beginning Orchestra soloists, Philharmonic, Sinfonietta, and Advanced Sinfonietta Orchestras while eating freshly made Papa Murphy's pizza and delicious desserts and bidding on amazing auction items from jewelry to gift certificates and gift cards. Food ticket prices are $1 each cash only. Silent auction items can be purchased with cash or check. Come and support the Faubion Orchestra! Congratulations to Matthew Johnson (7 th grade). Matthew did a great job at the District Spelling Bee and now qualifies to compete in the Collin County Spelling Bee on February 7 th here at FMS at 6pm. Come on out to help us cheer Matthew on to the next level! The flyer is attached to this newsletter email.
I d like to take this opportunity to invite you to our Open House on Thursday, February 21 st. Based on feedback we ve received from parents and teachers over the past few years, we are altering the schedule a bit this year. Please take note of the schedule below: Open House (Current 5 th, 6 th, 7 th and 8 th Graders and their parents) 5pm-6:30pm Incoming 6 th Grader Parent Meeting (Current 5 th Graders and their Parents) 7pm ( Auditorium) Open House is a come and go event where parents and their students can visit their teacher s classrooms. Some teachers will have student work product on display in the halls or in classrooms, some teachers have a PowerPoint that plays over and over and shares information on what students have learned or will learn in that course. We find that keeping it casual and informal leads to a very high level of attendance and allows families to best decide how to spend their time while they are here. We also schedule Open House during the course registration period so parents can visit core and elective classes that their child might have an interest in taking next school year. Current 8 th grade parents had the opportunity to attend the High School Showcases earlier this month to help decide which classes to take in high school next year. Keep in mind Open House is not the time to talk about your child s individual grades. Schedule a meeting with the teacher for that discussion. The incoming 6 th grader parent meeting will be held in the auditorium and begin promptly at 7pm. During this meeting we will share information on some of the finer details that are different at the middle school level, walk you through what you and your child can expect throughout the day, and share information about academic and other middle school requirements. This presentation is currently posted on our website along with welcome letters in English and Spanish. We look forward to see you all here on the evening of February 21 st. Be sure to mark your calendars! J The 11th Annual Faubion Orchestra Silent Auction and Dinner Concert will be Tuesday, January 29 in the Faubion Cafeteria from 5-7:30.
