We Serve By Recycling Lion Bob Moravec recently delivered recyclables from our club to the Lions of Illinois Foundation in Sycamore. 2,700 pair of used eyeglasses, eight hearing aids, 54 cell phones, 252 ink cartridges, and one pound of pull tabs. Lion Bob notes that there are now twenty collection sites throughout town. Look for the white collection boxes. Site locations are also listed on the website. Lion Bob continues to be amazed by the support from the community on this. Since taking over as eyeglass chairman two years ago, he has collected just over 15,000 pair of used glasses. These glasses will get a second chance on a very appreciative person in Central or South America. Recycle! In compliance with it s new go green effort to reduce operating costs, the Lions of Illinois Foundation s Executive Director, Lion Mario Gumino, PDG recently emailed the Foundation s thanks for the Crystal Lake Lions Clubs support of it s recycling program. By using email for some tasks, paper and postage costs are saved thereby making more funds available for serving the needy. Fellow Lions President s Letter July 1 starts another year for the Crystal Lake Lions Club. It would be hard to disagree with the fact that the last year under Lion Doug Lomen's leadership was one of our best ever! Our club ran very successful fundraisers which filled our activity account with money it has never seen before! Nearly $60,000 has or will be invested back in our community to help the folks who are in need. We need to pat ourselves on the back for a job well done. Congrats to Lion Doug for a great job leading our club. As a Past -President and now current President, I appreciate his efforts and committment. The President of the club can only be successful if membership puts in the time and effort to meet our club's mission. I will expect no less from the club this year. Our club has installed 4 new members this past year, which is a great accomplishment! Their sponsors and the rest of the club need to make sure they get involved in our fundraising efforts. We also say goodbye to Lion Roger Weis. Roger is moving to Tennessee, escaping the high taxes of Illinois and not having to wear shoes anymore! Roger was a tremendous member of our club, always helping out and taking on duties. We will miss him and wish him great luck in his new home. This year has been challenging one for me. I have had to start my business all over again in a short time frame. Never worked this hard since I first started out in the insurance business over 30 years ago. What this means for the Club is that I will not have as much time to donate to the club as I would like. Lions will have to step up and help out. The Fall Raffle and Fall Festival will need to be put in someone else's charge. I will delegate duties of the Donation's committees to others. Members will be expected to do more for the club, especially in securing sponsorships for our fundraisers. Remember why you are a member of our club-to help those in need in our community. Our club needs your active participation for us to succeed. By the way-we have a fun time doing it too! We have a great standing in our community and we should all be proud of it. Lets go ahead and have a great year!
