G.P.G.C./G.P.S.D.C. THE BULLET-TIN Volume 4 April 2006 Phone (972) 641-9940 (leave message) www.gpgc.net NOTICE - RANGE CLOSURES The Trinity River Authority (TRA) has a contractor installing a ninety-inch sanitary sewer along the Trinity River. This project will impact the operation of the Club during the construction period. This project starts on our property and extends to the west to Roy Orr Boulevard. The contractor has started at the west end near Roy Orr Boulevard in order to get the line in the ground before the park renovations are completed. They began on our property the week of March 13th and are moving from west to east. When they are on the property, all ranges will be closed. The contractor is posting signs on the gates of the rifle/pistol ranges and the shotgun range notifying members that the ranges are closed while they are working. They have agreed to stop by 4:00PM during the week and not work on the weekends. The ranges will be open after 4:00PM on the weekdays and during normal hours on the weekend. The contractor is able to install approximately 200 feet of pipe per day given good weather. Once the pipe is installed, manholes will need to be contructed and the land will be regraded and seeded to establish grass. As a result of negotiations with TRA to be able to place this line on Club property, the drainage ditch in front of Field #5 on the shotgun range will be piped and filled in, providing an easier area to maintain and insure drainage of our property. Thank you for your understanding of this temporary inconvenience. Casual/Beginner Skeet/Trap League Every Tuesday 5:30 till dark beginning April 4, 2006, through May 30, 2006. This will be a fun league with emphasis on practice and instruction. Shoot skeet, trap or both. Serious shooters should not join this league unless you want to participate with instruction for new shooters. Any gauge shotgun will do and any action except single shot. We will shoot a minimum of 2 rounds (2 boxes) per evening. The cost will be $3.50 per round for members and $5 for guests. This is an open league; any age or sex. Sponsors Mike Pallett, mwpallett@yahoo.com George Lavender, gilavender@sbcglobal.net Notice Be sure to lock the front gate if you are the last one to leave the property. We have recently had some instances where the gate was unlocked when the first person arrived in the morning. Be sure to bring your key with you when you come to the club in case you need to unlock the padlock to close the gate, or if you are accidentally locked in.

Recipe Corner Fresh Sourdough Biscuits 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 Tbsp. sugar 1 Tbsp. baking powder 3/4 tsp. salt 2 cups Sourdough Starter (see below) 2 or 3 Tbsp. shortening Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl; add starter; mix to make firm dough. Add water if needed. Cover and let rest 5 minutes. Grease a 12-inch Dutch oven or deep iron skillet generously with shortening. Dip fingers into remaining shortening; pinch off dough balls the size of large walnuts and shape them into round balls. Place close to each other in greased pan; let rise in a warm place for 15 minutes. Bake over coals in a covered Dutch over or in a 400 deg. oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Makes about 2 dozen. Sourdough Starter: Soften 1 package active dry yeast in 1 quart lukewarm water in a large crock or bowl. Add 2 Tbsp. sugar and 4 cups allpurpose flour. Beat to mix. Cover with a kitchen towel and place in a warm place to sour for 2 to 4 days. After mixture has reached desired sourness, keep in refrigerator. Every Mon. - 5:30 PM Trap/Skeet Members and Guests 3 GPGC Skunked Again at 2006 Inter-Club Challenge The 2006 InterClub Challenge was held at Grand Prairie Gun Club on March 11, 2006. The weather was excellent with temperatures in the low 80 s. Due to the sanitary sewer construction, there was a very interesting background of 90 pipe that was waiting to be installed. This is a team event in which each member shoots 50 skeet targets and 50 16 yard trap targets. The combined high score wins and gets to keep the traveling trophy at their club for the next year. The winning and runner up teams also receive a custom belt buckle commemorating the shoot. The individual champ and runner up also received a buckle. Thirteen teams entered the event with hopes of taking home the traveling trophy. This was up from the ten teams last year. Obviously, people like this event! DeSoto, Grand Prairie, Arlington, Terrell, Dallas, Fort Worth and Paris were represented. When the last target was thrown DeSoto once again claimed the trophy with the team of Jimmy Powell, Doug Thomas, Randy Sullivan, Mike Jury, and Richard Chandler. They shot a combined score of 482 of 500. The runner up team was from Fort Worth consisting of Jim Painter, Duane Batts, Johnny Burns, David Weeks, and Drew Tompkins. They shot a combined score of 472 of 500. Doug Thomas took the high over all individual buckle with a 50 straight in skeet and a 49 in trap for a score of 99 of 100. Harold Steen shot 50 straight in skeet and 48 in trap for a 98 of 100 which captured the runner up individual buckle after a shoot-off with Jimmy Powell (who also had a combined score of 98). Many thanks to Benny Emmons and the many club members who volunteered to help cook, pull or score targets or clean up. The beef brisket lunch was outstanding and the Hunter Ed class also got to benefit from lunch at the Club. We had approximately 15 volunteers that helped run the shoot and it cannot be emphasized enough how these type of events would not be successful without them and how fortunate our Club is to have people that volunteer. This is what makes our Club what it is. Thanks to everyone who helped!
