Induction Pack HIPPO Squad Kenya School of Swimming From Aptitude and Endeavour Comes Elite Performance

Introduction Congratulations on your selection into the HIPPO Squad! This Induction Pack has been put together to guide you through HIPPO Squad. Please ensure you read all sections thoroughly and if you have any further questions liaise with your coach. If applicable please fill out and return any attached forms to the relevant person. Contents Introduction Training & Competition Policies 3 Squad Criteria 5 Kit Requirements 6 Club Badges Criteria 7 Useful Contacts 8 Appendices: 9 Appendix 1: Swimmer Contract 1 P a g e

Training & Competition Policies Training Etiquette Policy Training etiquette is the manner in which a swimmer conducts themselves in the training environment with other swimmers and staff. A simple set of rules and standards should be adhered to in order to ensure efficiency and enjoyment from all participants. A key component of this is punctuality; Kenya School of Swimming abides by the motto To be on time is to be late. Swimmers are expected to be present 10 minutes before their training session commences and fully prepared to begin exercise 5 minutes prior to the official training time. Please note that if swimmers are late to a training session by 10 minutes or more they will be unable to take part in the session. Please note session duration for this age group is only 30mins, so anything more than 10 mins late means they are coming in half way through the session, which not does not help them but is also a disruption for those who have kept time. Lane etiquette is crucial to the day to day training environment. Swimmers need to be aware of fellow team mates in the pool at all times. Core aspects swimmers should adhere to include: Awareness of lane direction. Standard 5 second intervals unless directed otherwise. Rules of overtaking. Turn location. Finishing correctly. No standing up. No pulling on the lane rope. 2 P a g e

Athlete Attitude The aim Kenya School of Swimming works towards is the development of elite and professional athletes; therefore we promote the professional athlete attitude throughout our program. The attributes of an elite swimmer include: Positivity. Punctuality. Motivation. Dedication. Communication. Respect. Responsibility. Athlete Responsibilities In order to develop an elite athlete all parties including the athlete, coaching team and parents need to work in unison. However, no matter how much support the coaching team and parents provide it is the swimmer who facilitates their level of success. Consequently, the swimmer has numerous responsibilities to uphold including: Training attendance. Kit preparation. Identifying problems and liaising with coach. Fundamental health care such as adequate rest and nutritional needs. Failure to comply with the above policies and requirements will result in retraining for minor infringements and incur more severe penalties for greater violations. 3 P a g e

Squad Criteria The Squad Criteria for each squad has been designed to help manage the development of individual swimmers and has been tailored towards the training required and available in a specific squad set up.
