This is a free match and, like last year, will be sponsored by one of the Western Wildcats Rifle Club members. The winner will receive fame and a modest prize. What is F-class? From Rick Curtis Below is a little background on how F class came to be. The actual definition of F class would be defined simply as this. A shooter who employs a rifle with any sighting system supported by a front rest or bipod and a rear sandbag. The front and the rear supports cannot be attached in any way. No return-to-battery type or "Railguns" can be used. F-Class is the fastest growing long-range shooting sport in the world, and it is sure to continue growing as more and more people become familiar with its unique advantages and challenges. F-Class was started in Canada. It was started as a fun class. In the beginning, it was mostly old time shooters, who put a scope and bipod on their rifle and shot along with the rest of the TR shooters. Mr. Farquharson came up with the idea of F- Class to enable the older long-range shooters to continue shooting along side of the people they had been competing with for most of their lives. Farquharson was a Canadian who shot what in most of the world is known as Fullbore Rifle. Fullbore (known as long-range or Palma shooting here in the States) is shot prone with a sling and iron sights, using a.308 Winchester and a bullet weight of no more than 156 grains. Farquharson figured, that older shooters would be able to continue long-range shooting longer if their eyesight and bodies could be augmented by allowing them to use a scope and a rest to shoot. He convinced the Canadian NRA (the DCRA) to approve his idea and F-Class was named after him. F-Class migrated to the rest of the British Commonwealth and also to Germany, France, the Netherlands and the USA. Rimfire F class is, as of yet, not officially recognized with a classification system. Although there may be a classification system in 2011, From Allen Elliott: Let me tell you what little I know; a) anyone including a junior could shoot F class if they wanted to. b) at the moment, F class is F class, there are no experts, marksman, sharpshooters etc. c) shoot offs, at the present time, are only at the nationals in HP d) there are weight limits but are only enforced when stated in the program and that is usually at national or world championships. e) as far as rests go, the front must be separate from the rear, (may not use a one piece rest), and bi-pods are permitted. f) there is/are F class targets just for them with smaller scoring rings in HP wildcatprogram2011 revised 5
