January Meeting Minutes Date: 15 January, 2019 Location: Ryan's Steakhouse, Madison, TN. Members Present: 21 Presiding: Tom Bible, President Opening Remarks: Meeting called to order at 6:30 pm. Tom welcomed everyone and thanked all present for coming out on our first meeting of the new year. Tom commented on the outstanding attendance turnout and mentioned that we have a new year ahead of us with a lot of new challenges and events to be planned. Treasurer's Report: Hays Graf reported $8,084.30 in our club account and acknowledged that 12 club members have paid their club dues for 2019. Motion made, seconded and approved to accept both the Treasurer's Report and the Minutes Report from October 2018. New Members: Four new members were present. Each told of their interests and experience, then their membership applications were approved by unanimous vote. Welcome aboard Michael Monnin, Alan Butler, Steve Colgan and RegisGalbach. Discussion: Hayes passed out a 2019 proposed budget along with the budget from 2018 for comparison. Many items were discussed including potential expenses for various facilities repair and maintenance. Dick Tonan, MTRCCA (MiddleTennessee R/C Clubs Association) President, volunteered to check with the Metro Parks Dept. to see if they will help with much needed resealing of areas of the runway. Don Clark will check with battery replacement of the weather station. A new item (Charity Donations) was included in this budget proposal. Tom commented that our club has been fortunate the past few years to have been blessed with shared profits from MTRCCA events, donations from businesses and deceased member's estates and he proposed that we donate $250 to a local charity as a way of giving back to the local community. Motion made and approved to increase the charity contribution to $500 and to accept the revised 2019 budget as it is. Several local organizations were mentioned that could benefit from our community charitable donation including EAA Young Eagles. It was agreed that ideas for a recipient of our donations will be submitted at our February meeting. It was mentioned that the FAA now requires all drone or suas (small unmanned aircraft system) operators to obtain a registration number and for that number to be attached somewhere on the remote piloted craft. Information for that requirement is available on the FAA website. Spread the word about the Aviators! Meet someone new and want to invite them to join the MCAs? January Meeting Minutes Con t Old Business: The successes of the MTRCCA 2018 Fall Swap Meet and our recent "Frost-bite-fly-in" was mentioned. New Business: John Forehand suggested that we conduct a Club Spring Fun-Fly Contest similar to the successful event recently conducted by our sister Metro club at Cane Ridge (MTRCS) that consisted of 4 events in two separate classes, Proposed entry fees of $10 per class with ideas for the events including; "Most take off and landings in a minute, Most Loops in a minute, Dixie Death, and Limbo". It was agreed that we will have the event on May 18 with prizes and/or trophies awarded. More plans will be made and finalized, volunteer help will be needed and this event will be AMA sanctioned. Dick Tonan commented that; "We have the potential for making this a really successful club event".. Upcoming Events: The Cumberland Flyers plan to host the MTRCCA Spring Fly-In at their Cedar Hill, TN field.. There will be a Scot Perry Spring Air Academy sponsored by the Beechcraft Heritage Museum in Tullahoma and conducted by volunteers from the various MTRCCA clubs in June, 2019. Dave Palmer stated how much our club benefits from MTRCCA events and how the Association needs continuing volunteer support from each area club member in order to successfully plan and implement various enjoyable events that benefit all area RC clubs and the surrounding communities. Dick Tonan stated that the MTRCCA has turned back over $20,000 to the various area member clubs in the past 13 years.
