2018-2019 Cheerleading Tryouts Dates Time Location April 9 th 6-7:30pm PJHS Gym *clinic April 10 th 6-7:30pm PJHS Gym *clinic April 11 th 6-7:30pm PJHS Gym*tryouts April 17 th 5:30 pm *Parent Meeting (Cafeteria) CLINICS AND TRYOUTS ARE CLOSED NO SPECTATORS WILL BE ALLOWED-students may bring phones to record cheers at the end of first day if they like Students may leave directly after they are done trying out on April 11 th. On April 12th at 5:30 pm on PJHS front door, coach will post the names of the 2018-19 squad. Cheerleaders must be in attendance each day in order to tryout on the 11 th.
Please email any questions about the packet and/or tryouts to Coach Blair at pjhscheer@myunit5.org What to bring to the clinic on April 9th: Orange slip (from PJHS office) The Cheerleader Information sheet Current Physical form and Concussion form must be turned into office to obtain orange slip What to wear to clinics/tryouts: Black shorts Parkside PE shirt or plain grey t-shirt with name on back shirts must be tucked in Socks, tennis shoes- cheerleading shoes if you have them Hair must be pulled back in high pony tail NO JEWELRY NO GUM You will be judged on the following: Spirit, enthusiasm, and smiling Motion placement, sharpness, and memory Jumps and Tumbling o Please do not attempt to do a tumbling pass that you are not comfortable with. 2 Teacher evaluations- Teacher evaluations must be completed and returned to Coach Blair by Wednesday, April 4th. One teacher evaluation must be from a current teacher, and the second may be from a past or current teacher. Teachers may hand-deliver the evaluations or send them in the Unit Mail to the PJHS Office Attn: Cheerleading. NO EVALUATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED FROM STUDENTS Cheers learned at the clinic---you will learn 1 sideline cheer and 1 floor cheer at the clinic that you will need to perform on day 3. Make sure that you know all words and moves to these cheers. Jumps---You will need to do a toe-touch and one of the following jumps: right/left hurdler or a pike jump. Tumbling---You will be able to tumble on mats. However, you will not be spotted. Only do tumbling passes that you CAN do.
Important Information when making the Squad! At the post-tryout mandatory parent meeting we will: o Discuss potential fundraising opportunities o Order warm-ups, camp clothing, shoes, and other uniform pieces o Discuss summer camp o Discuss team tumbling class at Gymnastics Etc. Summer camp is MANDATORY. We will learn floor cheers, dances, and stunts that the girls need to learn together as one group. Tentative date for summer camp will be the July 16 th,17 th,18 st at Normal West High School from 9am-3pm. Practices are mandatory and will start the end of July two days per week. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-5:30 pm. **practices are subject to change** Fundraising: You will learn about multiple fundraising opportunities at the post-tryout mandatory parent meeting. Some fundraising options will help offset the cost for each family. Other fundraisers will go towards the cheer account to help with additional expenses such as socials and end of the year banquet. However, one of the fundraisers will help reduce the cost for cheer clothing. This will be optional, and each girl will be credited based on what they sell. There are no refunds if a girl sells more than what they owe. The extra money will go into the cheer account. Some possible fundraising options (we will not be doing ALL of these) Little Cheers Clinic (Fall) Mega Dough Car Wash (Summer) Grants Local Ice Cream or Food Business o Example(s): Potbelly s (any Tuesday; 5-8p; earn 25% of all their sales) Heads Up- Cheer is a very expensive sport. Approx. cost- $600-900 for clothing/camp We cheer at most girls and boy s games and all games are mandatory
