JACQUES MARTIN ASSOCIATE COACH QUEBEC NORDIQUES NEUTRAL AND OFFENSIVE ZONE TEAM PLAY Attack Optons: The topc of attack optons really s the applcaton of the "read and react" dea. Players on the attack have to "read" and "take what the defense s gvng you". Many players try to pre-determne ther optons and, therefore, do not acheve success. For example, dumpng the puck n can be an effectve strategy when the defenders are playng up and defendng the blue lne, however, on many occasons you wll see players SHOOT the puck n when the defenders are "playng off" and concedng the zone. The game s played at hgh speed but players can stll be taught to read smple cues that gve them some dea of ther optons. ex. Readng &defender - What space s he defendng? I. BASIC ATTACK PRINCIPLES: Generally, f the followng three prncples exst the attack should have good potental. #1 - puck enters the zone n possesson - wth speed - wthout speed #2 - pressure to the net, away from the puck #3 - one attacker movng to occupy the slot #4 - late man (defenseman) - 4th man to the attack If these three attack prncples do occur an "attack trangle" wll exst. On 3 on 2's ths attack trangle really gves the defender problems because t spreads them because of "wdth" and t makes the slot man dffcult to cover because of "depth".

II. EXAMPLES OF ATTACK OPTIONS: #1 - outsde drve to net - outsde drve wth tral pass - outsde drve wth mddlelane drve #2 -delays - hgh / mddle / low #3 - takng puck to the mddle n front #4 - crossng - clearng an area - creatng solaton - force a decson #5 - stretchng #6-4th man nto the attack #7 - Shoot-ns - wde rme - dagonal dump n

ATTACK some ponts to keep n mnd when teachng attack. -speed wth puck. -speed away from the puck. -2nd man drves all the way to the net. -always (2nd man) stop n front of the net. -"clear a lane, fll a lane." -wdth and depth to your attack.
