HEALTHY HABIT QUIZ: HOW TO MAKE CHANGES THAT STICK TRUE OR FALSE IT S BEST TO KEEP YOUR GOALS QUIET TO PREVENT PUBLIC FAILURE? FALSE. Don t go it alone. Having support can help keep you on track. EXPECT TO SLIP UP. TRUE. Everyone has lapses when trying to build a healthily habit. It s part of the process. It doesn t mean you ve failed. Use it as a chance to learn your triggers. Learn from mistakes and move on. SAVE REWARDS FOR WHEN YOU MEET YOUR END GOAL. FALSE. Rewards, however small, can motivate you. They remind you of your progress and make things more fun. For short-term goals, rewards should be simple. Give yourself larger rewards for reaching bigger goals. IF YOU HAVEN T FORMED A NEW HABIT IN 3 WEEKS, YOU SHOULD GIVE UP. FALSE. Many people believe change can be cemented in 21 days, but research shows it s not that simple. For some, creating a habit can take 2 months or more. WHICH IS A BETTER GOAL? To cut down on procrastinating OR To plan your work ahead of time. TO PLAN YOUR WORK AHEAD OF TIME. When you create your goals in a positive way use terms that focus on the behavior you want to build, you are more likely to succeed. It s often easier to build a new habit than to quit a bad one. BY JUNE, WHAT % OF PEOPLE STUCK WITH THEIR NEW YEAR S RESOLUTIONS? 11% OR 18% OR 40% 40%. Studies show that by midyear, less than half had kept their January promises. With the right attitude and approach, you can improve your own odds. YOU WANT TO BREAK 3 HABITS. IT S BEST TO: Stop them all at once, while you re motivated OR Quit 1 at a time? QUIT 1 AT A TIME. It s tough to change too many things at once. It takes time to form bad habits, but it also takes time to replace them with good ones. Conquer one habit, then move on to the next. First National Bank in Pierre held it s Holiday Open House for members of the VIP Club on Tuesday, Dec. 11 th. We had a great turnout with members from Pierre and Fort Pierre stopping by to enjoy some holiday refreshments. A drawing was held for a couple of poinsettias. Newell We welcomed around 25 of our VIPs to our annual Christmas Party held on December 19 th at the bank. Lunch was served followed by several very lively rounds of VIPGO. Our lunch menu included potato-leek soup, makeyour-own ham and cheese sandwiches, a relish tray with a choice of dips, luscious fudge type brownies along with coffee or Christmas punch. Prizes were a choice of one of the poinsettias from the lobby or a small bag of assorted fruit from our order that came to us via the annual high school FFA fruit sale. Players were very intent on marking their cards as each number was called. This was probably the greatest number of people that have been in our lobby at one time with next to no sound being made! By the end of the afternoon nearly everyone left with a prize. We certainly enjoyed having our friends with us to celebrate the holiday season and thank each of them who came. Rapid City We held our Customer Appreciation on Friday, December 14th here at the bank. It was a great day! Our VIPs picked up their First National Bank calendars along with some great food. We had a variety of food from chili to wraps and, of course, desserts! There were approximately 40+ people from Real Estate Agents to VIP members that stopped by to visit and eat. It was a wonderful day to celebrate the holidays. Thanks to all of our VIP Members that joined us!
Huron VIP members and friends from Huron, Lake Preston and Pierre got in the holiday spirit early when we traveled to LeMars, Iowa, in November. After lunch at Bob s Drive Inn, we toured the round barn on the Plymouth County Fairgrounds, which featured both floors full of holiday decorations all belonging to one woman! We then spent a few hours at the Plymouth County Museum, which displayed a wide variety of items in the various rooms of the former school building. The highlight was over 300 nativity sets on display on the 4th floor. Everyone enjoyed root beer floats at the old-fashioned soda counter. After a delicious buffet dinner, we attended a delightful holiday performance by the Brown family. Following the concert, we took a surprise detour out in the country to Christmas Acres, where one family puts up a huge light display with all donations going to the local food bank. Our accommodations that evening were at the totally renovated Holiday Inn Express. We headed out on Friday morning for a very informative tour with the mayor of LeMars, who highlighted the businesses surrounding the famous Blue Bunny Ice Cream Factory. We then had some free time for shopping at some unique shops on Main Street. Another delicious buffet luncheon at the Brown s Event Center was followed by a very moving musical performance of The Innkeeper s Wife, which featured members of the Brown family. Before departing LeMars, we enjoyed ice cream sundaes with Blue Bunny Ice Cream, of course! It was a cold and windy day on December 2nd, when a full bus of VIP members and friends from Huron and Lake Preston headed to Hoven for the Christmas on the Prairie concert Love s Pure Light at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. The church structure is amazing beyond words and the program which featured the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, Northern State University Chamber Singers, an All-Faiths Festival Choir, and two soloists was outstanding! We made a short stop in Faulkton on our way to view the painting by Australian artist Guido Van Helten, on the 3 sides of the elevator. The images show every wrinkle of fabric, every strand of hair and the softness of a child s form, as if a giant photo had been pasted to the side of the structure. It is unofficially the 3rd largest display of art in SD, behind Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse. This is the first year we have offered either of these trips. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed both of them and we hope to offer them again in the future. Thank you to all who joined us. Arapahoe ARAPAHOE 2019 VIP EVENT DATES DON T MISS A THING! HO HO HO! Our event for December was full of holiday cheer! We had a great turn out and so many donations for our clothing drive. This year, we decided to do something different for the holiday season. We asked our customers to bring any items of clothing that they didn t need or want as a donation to St. Elizabeth s Church. With Denver s homeless population so high, warm clothing for the winter is much needed. We would like to thank all of the VIPs that came to the event and donated! Everyone was very thankful for the great items that were given. Along with donating, we decorated Christmas cookies and enjoyed one another s company - it was such a wonderful time!
