Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association Baulko Bulletin May Edition Volume 2, Issue 2
President's Report It is with deep sadness that I must advise you all of the passing of Mrs Pam Noble who was our inaugural President in 1975. Pam had been instrumental in the setting up of our Association together with Margaret Elder and Lorraine Everitt to name a few who were involved in forming BHSNA. These 2 Life Members also held Executive positions that first year. Pam then returned in 1985 as President for another year for BHSNA. Pam s daughter Jacqui Toy has also been a member of BHSNA and is currently residing in Victoria where she is coaching one of their top Netball League teams. Our thoughts are with Jacqui and the Noble Family at this time. The Hills Relay for Life annual walk raises funds and awareness towards the fight against cancer. Coaching Corner NetSetGo Program This is the name given to the introductory phase of junior netball. The program incorporates skill building activities, minor games and modified rules matches, in a fun and safe environment. At BHSNA we have 108 of our 555 teams in this 7-9 year old age group. These girls are participating in skills based activities and games that will develop their abilities and prepare them for the competitive game, complete with Semi Finals, Final and Grand Finals from age 10. Our 23 teams of players in the 7 years age group have are undertaking the biggest change. Their Saturday schedule is made up of the first two quarters being structured skill based activities focusing on getting the basics skills introduced in the right way, so that every girl is involved and ready to practice these skills in the final two quarters each week, by playing a game against another club. Our coaches of this age group are to be commended, as it takes effort to prepare a training session. Our coaches of this age group are to be commended, as it takes effort to prepare a training session. It would be very easy to just play a half court and ignore skills, but in the main this is not happening. Netball Australia have provided the skills coaching resources via the Netball NSW website search NetSetGo Resources. There is a number of training sessions of 45 minutes duration to allow progression weekly with plenty to keep the girls occupied. Under NetSetGo guidelines, week day training is not recommended by Netball Australia for this age group. The 41 teams of 8 year olds and 44 teams of 9 year olds are also building skills by playing a non- competitive game each week. Again our umpires and coaches are to be commended, as skills are explained when infringements occur during the game. In this way the players are developing and learning the rules, ready for the competitive game format when they turn 10. 8
