Land drainage needs t be imprved t minimize underpass flding during heavy rainfalls. Stage 2 f the Suthwest Transitway must be accmmdated at the lcatin f the Pembina Underpass.
The scpe f the prject is t study three ptins fr the underpass imprvements. Remve the existing sidewalk n the east side f the underpass t prvide space fr a third nrthbund traffic lane and cnstruct access fr pedestrians/cyclists by tunneling thrugh the railway embankments; Replace the existing railway bridge t prvide space fr a third nrthbund lane and t prvide access fr pedestrians/cyclists; and, Replace the existing railway bridge with a new bridge n a new alignment nrth f the existing bridge. The study als includes a cnceptual design f a future grade separatin crssing ver Pembina Highway between the Jubilee Overpass and the Pembina Highway Underpass fr Stage 2 f the Suthwest Transitway.

Radway traffic vlumes analysis determined that tw lanes nrthbund and tw lanes suthbund will maintain traffic mvements abve the minimal acceptable levels during cnstructin. Cnstructin shuld nt significantly impact nrthbund traffic (n change frm the existing situatin). Suthbund traffic may experience slightly lnger delays with the reductin t tw lanes (frm three) during cnstructin. Sme delays are expected during cnstructin as a result f slwer traffic speed and ptential lane realignments. Cnstructin scheduling will depend upn the ptin selected and adherence t the nise bylaw respecting prximity t residential neighburhds. Transit accessibility Cnnectins with future Suthwest Transitway. It is within the scpe f the Pembina Underpass Upgrade Study t include prvisin fr a Pembina Highway bridge crssing fr the future extensin f the Suthwest Transitway.
