The Falcons open the weekend at the Eagle Invita onal in Ypsilan, Mich., where they will face host Eastern Michigan, No. 17 Kent State and MPSF foe Alaska at 7 p.m. (EST). Air Force then returns to the Academy on Monday, March 11, for its home finale against 13th-ranked Denver at 6 p.m. MEET INFORMATION: SATURDAY The Eagle Invita onal, featuring Air Force, Alaska, Eastern Michigan and No. 17 Kent State, will take place at Bowen Field House on the campus of Eastern Michigan University. A LOOK AT THE FIELD Kent State holds the highest na onal ranking of the four schools compe ng at the Eagle Invita- onal, as the Golden Flashes are ranked 17th with a Regional Qualifying Score of 195.755. Eastern Michigan is ranked 45th (193.810), while Air Force and Alaska are ranked 56th (192.420) and 61st (191.280), respec vely. SCOUTING THE COMPETITION No. 17 Kent State tallied its best score of the year on March 1 to defeat Ball State 196.250-192.100, while Eastern Michigan collected its highest total of the year in a 194.775-194.675 loss to Southeast Missouri State on March 3. Alaska, who will face Central Michigan in a dual meet prior to the Eagle Invita onal, has been off from compe on since recording the third-highest team score in program history during a 193.350-192.850 loss to Eastern Michigan on Feb. 17. MEET INFORMATION: MONDAY Admission is free for all Air Force women s gymnas cs meets, which are held inside Cadet West Gym. Following the meet, the Falcons will be on hand to sign autographs. SCOUTING THE COMPETITION Denver, currently ranked 13th in the GymInfo Na onal Rankings, is coming off of the sixthhighest team score in program history (196.800) to win the West Virginia Quadrangular on March 3. Individually, Moriah Mar n is ed for eighth in the na onal vault standings with a Regional Qualifying Score of 9.905, while Nina McGee is ed for 11th on the uneven bars with a 9.885 RQS. Like Air Force, the Pioneers will compete on Saturday night, hos ng Arizona State and Illinois State at Hamilton Gymnasium. LAST TIME WE MET Although it hasn t faced any of their upcoming opponents for the Eagle Invita onal, Air Force has met Denver twice this season. The Falcons opened the season with a dual meet at then- 20th-ranked Denver on Jan. 12, tallying its highest season-opening score of the Doug Day era in a 196.600-191.025 loss to the Pioneers. Air Force returned to the state capitol for the Burnsley Invita onal on Feb. 2, tallying a 192.675 to finish fourth behind No. 13 Denver (196.050), No. 24 NC State (194.925) and San Jose State (193.425). AROUND THE LEAGUE As a team, Air Force is currently ranked second in the MPSF with a Regional Qualifying Score of 192.420. Individually, Linnaea Hance and Ka e Hawthorne are ranked third (9.750) and fi h (9.715), respec vely, on the uneven bars, while Jessica Wallander is ranked fourth on the vault (9.765) and Jen Larsen is ranked fi h on the floor exercise (9.725). WHAT S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS Air Force closes out the regular season next weekend with a pair of meets in California. The total easily be ered the previous Day-era Record of 193.300 that had stood since the 2011 season. In fact, this season s squad, which hasn t scored lower than a 190 all year, has accounted for seven of the top-20 scores since Day became head coach in 2007. FALCONS SWEEP SEATTLE PACIFIC Backed by three tles, including four of the five scores that ed for first on the uneven bars and floor exercise, Air Force completed the regular-season sweep of Sea le Pacific on March 2. With a 193.825-192.975 victory, the Falcons, who accumulated the highest team total in seven years, improved to 2-0 on the season against their MSPF opponents from Sea le. HANCE BREAKS 39 IN THE ALL-AROUND Linnaea Hance became the Falcons first gymnast since Jessa Leigl in 2004 to break the 39-point mark in the all-around, as she scored a career-best 39.050 to win the outright tle in the four-event compe on. Contribu ng to her total was a e for first on the uneven bars (9.775), a e for third on the balance beam (9.725) and a career-best vault tally of 9.775 to e for third on that event. TAKING CONTROL OF THE TOP With matching scores of 9.775, the Falcons contributed to four of the five first-place scores on the uneven bars in the dual meet with Sea le Pacific. Linnaea Hance, Jen Larsen (career-best), Alexandra Stych (career-best) and Jessica Wallander (career-best) ed with SPU s Stephanie Wagner for first on the bars. BUT WAIT, THERE S MORE The Falcons also dominated a e at the top of the standings on the floor exercise on March 2, as Jen Larson, Alexandra Stych, Ka e Hawthorne and Shannen Kelly all used career-best marks of 9.825 to e with Sea le Pacific s Kenley Memmel for first on the floor. HANCE NAMED MPSF GYMNAST OF THE WEEK Linnaea Hance was selected as the MPSF Gymnast of the Week on Feb. 26, becoming the fourth Air Force gymnast this season to earn the conference s weekly award. Hance picked up her third career honor a er scoring a career-best 9.850 to e for first on the uneven bars at the TWU Quadrangular on Feb. 24. She also tallied a personal-best 9.675 on the vault and a season-high 38.725 in the all-around. DID YOU KNOW? Jessica Wallander won the floor exercise (9.800), accounted for the squad s top finish on the vault (third, 9.800) and ed for the team lead on the uneven bars with Ka e Hawthorne (second, 9.750), while Jessica Hanner ed for second on the balance beam with a 9.800. HANNER NAMED CO-MPSF GYMNAST OF THE WEEK Jessica Hanner earned a share of the MPSF Gymnast of the Week award on Feb. 5, a er collec ng a thirdplace finish on the balance beam at the Burnsley Invita onal. The junior recorded a season-high 9.800 to e for third, while also adding a top-five finish in the all-around behind a career-best 38.500 score. KEEPING IT GOING The Falcons posted their second-highest score of the season (192.675) and fourth-best total in seven years to take third at the Burnsley Invita onal on Feb. 2. Compe ng against 12th-ranked Denver, No. 24 NC State and San Jose State, Air Force cleared the 192-point mark for the second straight week, while se ng a new season-best total on the beam (48.625). BEAM THEM UP The Falcons placed four among the top-12 on the balance beam at the Feb. 2 Burnsley Invita onal in Denver. Jessica Hanner paced Air Force with a thirdplace ( e) score of 9.800, while Ka e Hawthorne and Linnaea Hance ed for ninth with matching scores of 9.750. Ali Ables rounded out the quartet with a 12th-place score of 9.725. Those marks, career highs for Hawthorne and Ables and season-best tallies for Hanner and Hance combined for the program s highest team total (48.625) of the season. FALCONS TALLY BEST TEAM SCORE IN TWO YEARS Air Force combined for its highest total in two years 193.225 during the team s home-opener on Jan. 26. That score is the second-highest team total of the Doug Day era, falling just 0.075 shy of the 193.300 the Falcons accounted for during two meets against Denver (2010, 2011). HANCE WINS FLOOR TITLE Linnaea Hance matched her career-best score of 9.800 to e for first on the floor exercise during the Air Force Quad. Equaling the mark she set last year at the USAG Championships, Hance picked up her second event tle of the season (uneven bars, Jan. 18). AIR FORCE DOMINATES FLOOR IN HOME OPENER Highlighted by the event tle from Linnaea Hance, Air Force recorded three of the top four scores on the floor exercise on Jan. 26. Helping the Falcons to a season-high team score of 48.525 was Hance s winning mark of 9.800, Jessica Wallander s 9.775 and Alexandra Stych and Jen Larsen s matching scores of 9.725. THE CLOSE CALL Less than one point separated the top three teams at the Falcons home-opening meet on Jan. 26, as the final standings came down to the last performers. UC Davis won the meet with a score of 193.725, while Air Force (193.225) edged Missouri (193.000) for second. JUNIORS TALLY CAREER-BEST MARKS All five compe ng juniors accounted for career highs on Jan. 26. Emily Bucher (beam) and Linnaea Hance (floor) tallied marks of 9.800 on their respec ve events, while Ka e Hawthorne (9.725) and Jen Larsen (9.775) improved their vault scores. Jessica Hanner improved her totals on the bars (9.675), floor (9.425) and all-around (38.350). FALCONS CLAIM SEASON S FIRST DUAL WIN Backed by an uneven bars tle from Linnaea Hance, the Falcons defeated MPSF foe Sea le Pacific 190.100-189.425 on Friday, Jan. 18. Air Force improved its team scores on the balance beam and floor exercise, while surpassing the 190-point mark for the second straight week. HANCE PACES FALCONS IN MPSF OPENING DUAL Linnaea Hance tallied a season-best 9.775 to win the uneven bars at Sea le Pacific, while also pacing the Falcons in the all-around and on the vault. The junior finished second in the all-around (38.050) and finished third on the vault (9.600). MORE NEWS FROM SEATTLE Air Force earned two of top-three places on the uneven bars at Sea le Pacific. While Linnaea Hance won the event with a season-high score of 9.775, Al Stych scored a season-best 9.625 to finish third. Shannen Kelly was the runner-up on the balance beam, behind a career-best score of 9.700. LARSEN EARNS MPSF WEEKLY HONOR Jen Larsen was named the MPSF Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 16 a er scoring a career-best 9.800 on the floor exercise at Denver. Larsen s PR contributed to a fi h-place finish on that event (Falcons highest event finish of the night) and a runner-up spot in the all-around (38.250).
