Storylines Liberty closes out the home portion of its 2011 schedule this weekend. The Lady Flames host Campbell, Friday at 7 p.m. at Liberty Christian Academy, and then faces the High Point Panthers, Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Vines Center. Four Liberty seniors; Courtney Boggs, Courtney Cooper, Kelly Haseman and Rebecca Warren, will be honored before Saturday s match. Liberty will look to avenge its lone Big South loss this season, against High Point. Liberty at a Glance Liberty maintained its lead in the Big South standings with a 3-2 victory on Friday against Radford, after trailing, 2-0, going into intermission. The Lady Flames lead the Big South, at 9-1, followed by Winthrop (9-2) and UNC Asheville (7-3). If Liberty should win out, neither team could take over first place. On Friday, the Lady Flames posted a season-high 11 service aces versus Radford. Liberty also registered 12 team blocks against the Highlanders, good for its third 10-block match in a row, and 10th this season. Liberty ranks first in the Big South and is 33rd in the nation with a 2.57 blocks per set average. Loren Thomas ranks 19th nationally with 1.38 blocks per set. Big South opponents have attacked at just a.130 pace against Liberty in 2011. Liberty enters the weekend on a five-match winning streak, its longest of the season. Kelly Haseman entered the top five on the Big South all-time digs list on Friday, while Thomas climbed into a tie for fifth in program history in career blocks. Jade Craycraft moved into eighth place at Liberty in career assists. Friday will mark Liberty s first home match not to take place at the Vines Center since the Lady Flames faced Oklahoma, Sept. 13, 2003 at the Schilling Center to conclude the 2003 Liberty Invitational. Top Five Two Lady Flames entered the top five all-time in the records against Radford, Friday. Kelly Haseman moved into fifth place in Big South history in digs on Friday, passing Carrie O Connell of Charleston Southern. After adding 20 digs against Radford. Haseman has recorded 1,845 career digs. With nine blocks on Friday, Loren Thomas moved into a tie for fifth place with Ashley Webber (2005-08) in Liberty volleyball history. Thomas has recorded 318 blocks in her career. Her total of 121 blocks this season ranks third in program rally-scoring history, and seven behind Webber s standard of 128, set in 2007. Chasing History Sophomore setter Jade Craycraft passed Liberty Athletics Hall of Fame member Theresa Bream, into eighth place on the program assists list. Craycraft has dished out 1,924 assists in her career, and is nearing the 2,000 assist mark. Only four setters in program history have reached 2,000 career assists during their sophomore season. Big Block The Lady Flames recorded 12 blocks against Radford, Friday, marking their third 10-block match in a row. Loren Thomas registered nine blocks, and Erica Manor set a career high with six block assists. Ansley Gebben tied her career high, earning four block assists. On the Attack Freshman middle blocker Melissa Racz tied her career high, with 12 kills against Radford. It marked her second 12-kill match in her last three contests, as she sent down 12 kills at Winthrop, Oct. 21. Racz has registerd 10 or more kills three times during Liberty s five-match winning streak. She tied with Lillie Happel for the team lead in kills on Friday, making her the fifth Liberty player to pace the team in kills during a match this season. Stifling Defense During Big South play, Liberty allows teams to hit just.130, while averaging 2.76 blocks, leading the conference in both statistics. The Lady Flames opponents are attacking at a.091 clip during Liberty s current four-match winning streak, while averaging 2.90 blocks per set over that span. Six Liberty players have at least one 10-dig match, while four players posted at least one five-block match in the last four contests.
