End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)/ Kidney Failure In May 2017, Ian Dennis was diagnosed with ESRD. There is no cure for kidneys that have failed, so Ian s survival now depends on having life-long dialysis treatments or getting a kidney transplant. Ian s doctors think he will make a great recovery with a donor kidney, so he is waiting anxiously for a suitable, matching blood type O donor.

Ian s Transplant Fund Almost 4 months ago, Ian Dennis (13 y/o) was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease and has been on Hemodialysis at CHKD every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Since May 9th many things have been happening, and numerous different factors have come together to get us where we are today. We are so very humbled by the huge outpouring of prayers and support from friends, family and complete strangers! Included in that support has been a number of volunteers who have stepped forward to have their bloodwork tested in hopes that someone is a donor match for Ian. Sentara Norfolk General is still working through the process of screening potential donors, and although only one person needs to be a match, we are so very thankful that so many came forward! Ian s care team is so confident that a match will be found. Although many factors will play into this coming together, we have complete faith that a true miracle is at work here, and that Ian will be transplanted this Fall. Since his care is moving forward, and as we look to the future, it was suggested that we start a fund to help cover Ian s current and upcoming Medical Costs. We are unsure exactly what may lie ahead, but with the Transplant comes a lifetime of Anti-Rejection (Immunosuppressant) drugs and other specialized medical care. We have established a special Medical Expense Account at Bayport Credit Union. If anyone would like to make even a small donation to Ian s upcoming medical expenses, you can go to any Bayport Credit Union in Hampton Roads and ask that your donation be placed in the following account: IAN DENNIS KIDNEY TRANSPLANT FUND Any and all donations would be so much appreciated! Thank you to all those who have helped Ian thus far. We cannot express how much everyone s complete selflessness and outpouring of support has meant to us! Ian Dennis In Need of a Transplant!! Ian is our 13 year old son who is in need of a kidney transplant. He is a wonderful, loving young man who has congenital kidney issue. He was diagnosed with irreversible kidney failure on May 9 th, and is currently on hemodialysis three days a week. The journey to where we are today has been a whirlwind, yet very fortunate journey. Ian sustained a minor head injury in Gym class on Valentine s Day this year. Following that day, he began to experience sporadic vomiting that was initially attributed to the possible concussion. After further evaluation and testing was ordered by his pediatrician at Renaissance Pediatrics, it was found that he was actually very ill, and was in Stage 5 kidney failure known as End Stage Renal Disease. He had 6% total kidney function remaining. This disease had progressed so slowly over such a long period of time that his body was able to compensate for it, and he showed no outward symptoms. We were very lucky that the events happened as they did, because he would have only gotten much sicker. He was admitted to the PICU at CHKD and received an implanted dialysis catheter. Ian began receiving dialysis treatments during his stay in the hospital. Ian is currently in need of a Kidney Transplant. He was recently placed on the Regional Transplant List, but we are praying desperately that a live donor can be found. Aside from the kidney failure, Ian is otherwise very healthy and we have been told that he is a great candidate for transplant. Being placed on the Transplant List is a blessing, but it is also a huge unknown since there is no guarantee if or when a compatible donor will be
found. We are hoping that as many of people as possible will consider getting screened to be a live donor as this will be the most effective and definitive care he could receive. Kate and I are in the process of being screened, as are other members of our immediate family, but we need as large a pool of candidates as possible to come forward so that the best possible match can be found. The screening process is simple, and there is no cost to the donor for any of the testing or even the surgery! Please consider getting tested so that our son could receive the ultimate gift that anyone could give life! We can answer most any questions about the process that you may have, and Sentara and CHKD have some great information available for anyone that may be interested. Please call or text us if you have ANY questions or concerns. Thank you for all of your prayers, and thank you for helping Ian! The following link will take you directly to the screening form, and you will receive a phone call within 2-3 days from the Transplant Center to schedule bloodwork.
