Brazenpine bumped at the start. Hung out over the concluding stages. Freaky Freckles bumped at the start. Judge's Daughter began awkwardly. RACE 2: Lawrence Hargrave Private Hospital Class 2 Handicap 1600m: Destiny's Hero began awkwardly. Cool And Neat which was leaning on the nearside barrier partition, began very awkwardly and lost ground. Leaving the 800m, when the pace slackened, Cool And Neat was shifted to a three-wide position where it raced without cover and, passing the 600m, was taken wider when Destiny's Hero shifted out to improve. Neruda When questioned, M. Bell stated that the gelding began well and was able to take up a forward position behind the leaders. He said that when Angel Of Truth crossed him passing the 1400m his mount improved onto that runner's heels and had to be eased. Neruda travelled comfortably for the remainder of the event, however, was disappointing when placed under pressure leaving the 500m and failed to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Ms K. Buchanan advised that the gelding will now be spelled. Smiling Manolito hung out under pressure in the straight. Rider L. Magorrian was reminded of his obligation to stop riding and straighten his mount when shifting ground. Celebris slow to begin. RACE 3: Figtree Private Hospital 3YO Maiden Handicap 1000m: Sparks Stewards considered an application by rider B. Spriggs to have Sparks declared a non-starter under the provisions of AR134(a). After taking evidence from
20181117K GR 2 B. Spriggs, stable representative Ms J. Thompson and starter Mr D. Arnold, Stewards found that Sparks, which was somewhat fractious after being loaded into the barriers and was in the care of a barrier attendant, reared as the start was effected and, whilst still being assisted by the barrier attendant, became cast in the adjoining barrier, ultimately dislodging rider B. Spriggs and completing the course riderless. On the evidence, Stewards ruled Sparks to be a starter and declared correct weight. In determining that Sparks had not been denied a fair start, Stewards found that the gelding reared simultaneously with the start being effected and was being assisted by the barrier attendant when the gelding became cast. Stable representative Ms J. Thompson was advised that the gelding would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Ticket Keeper raced wide and without cover throughout. Design Ahead bumped on jumping by Perigord, which began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide and without cover throughout. Shortly after straightening had to be eased to avoid the heels of Transmitter (B. El-Issa), which shifted out when not quite clear. B. El-Issa was advised to exercise more care. Minneapolis Miss underwent a veterinary examination upon arrival on course after being fractious in the float en route to the course. The filly was found to have a minor abrasion to the off-fore cannon but was deemed suitable to race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover. Oakfield Jet bumped on jumping by Ragazze, which began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced keenly in the early stages. RACE 6: Ramsay Healthcare Maiden Plate 1300m: Archedemus became fractious after being loaded into its barrier stall, reared and became cast. Acting on veterinary advice, the gelding was a late withdrawal at 4.10 p.m. Stewards subsequently ordered that all moneys placed on Archedemus be refunded in full and, with regard to betting with bookmakers, all successful wagers made prior to 4.10 p.m. be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st Leardo less 44 cents win, 31 cents place; 2 nd She'sinthelimelite less 31 cents place; 3 rd Brigid Of Kildare less 28 cents place. Trainer Ms G. Markwell was advised that the gelding would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Rhode Island raced wide and without cover throughout. Culbertson When questioned regarding his riding, in particular over the final 200 metres, L. Magorrian advised that after being slow to begin he rode his mount along, in accordance with his instructions, in the early stages and was able to assume the lead, however, when She'sinthelimelite held its position to his inside he was unable to shift to the rail. He stated that when Winspear improved to his outside passing the 1000m his mount commenced to race keenly and would not settle when being pressured by that runner. Further, when She'sinthelimelite improved to his inside leaving the 800m his mount continued to race keenly. He added that on straightening Culbertson initially responded to his urgings, however, when placed under full pressure passing the 250m the gelding commenced to hang in and failed to respond to his riding. L. Magorrian advised Stewards that Culbertson's racing manners were the main reason he desisted from riding his mount out over the final 200 metres. Stewards advised L. Magorrian that, although Culbertson had a tendency to hang in from the 200m, he nonetheless should have continued to ride his mount at least hands and heels to the finish of the race and was reminded of his obligations to do so. L. Magorrian also attributed the gelding's disappointing performance to today's heavy track conditions and the manner in which it was pressured throughout the early and middle stages. He also stated that in his opinion Culbertson would benefit from the blinkers being removed at its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representation Ms C. Heutson was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding's record due to its racing manners.
20181117K GR 4 Leardo Change of tactics to be ridden more forward: settled midfield. Brigid Of Kildare was briefly inconvenienced on jumping by Winspear, which shifted in. Leaving the 900m was taken wider by French Frolic when that runner shifted out. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. French Frolic slow to begin. She'sinthelimelite Stewards considered an objection lodged by Ms R. Freeman- Key, rider of the 2 nd placegetter She'sinthelimelite, against Leardo (App. R. Hunt) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 100 metres. In dismissing the objection, Stewards found that approaching and passing the 100m both runners were shifting out under pressure and at approximately the 80m there was slight contact between the two runners due to Leardo continuing to shift out. Stewards further determined that at approximately the 25m She'sinthelimelite was bumped by Leardo, however, bearing in mind the proximity of this incident to the finish line, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred She'sinthelimelite would have finished in advance of Leardo, and correct weight was declared. At a subsequent inquiry, App. R. Hunt was reminded of her obligation to stop riding and straighten her mounts when shifting ground. Winspear raced wide and without cover throughout. RACE 7: Wollongong Private Hospital Benchmark 64 Handicap 1400m: He's A Given began awkwardly. Leaving the 1200m got its head up on a number of occasions when being restrained. Salon Miss upon arrival at the barriers the mare was found to have lost its near hind plate and required replating. When Salon Miss was unable to be replated, Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 5.28 p.m. due to the track being rated a Heavy (9) and Racing NSW policy preventing horses from racing with one hind plate or bare behind on tracks rated in this category. It was subsequently ordered that all moneys placed on Salon Miss be refunded in full and, with regard to betting with bookmakers, all successful wagers made prior to 5.28 p.m. be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st Miss Jenny less 11 cents win, 9 cents place; 2 nd I Arize less 16 cents place; 3 rd Point Of Honour less 14 cents place.
