A monthly publication from Joseph C. Herbert Post 222, The American Legion, Clear Spring MD. From the Commander: 1 April 2018 Please take a look at the schedule of events listed in this month's Triple Deuce and mark them on your calendar. Then work out how you can attend with the thought to help where needed. Our Post depends on these scheduled outings to fund our existence! Keep in mind that a nominating committee will be appointed/announced at the May meeting and be prepared to respond if you have an interest in occupying an office. Do not be timid about making your wishes known - we could use some fresh perspective. The Honor Guard has new jackets that make a nice appearance as the honors are conducted. Thanks to First Vice Jim Hutson and Chaplain Phil Burgan for their efforts. The Adjutant s Desk: In your service, Ed Clopper, Commander A lot of our members need to update their phone numbers and e-mail addresses for our records. Sometimes we need to get in contact with you. I use the phone number you gave, to find it is no longer in service or changed. I only call when it is something that needs attention. Also, e-mail is the best way to get info on what is going on at the Post and to receive The Triple Deuce. Take a minute to call me or e-mail me updates. We now stand at 300 members paid for 2018. Would like to welcome our newest Legion member: Robert Harmon. Post Everlasting: The Chaplain s Corner: Passed Member of Clear Spring Legion Post 222 Dick Yeakle, Adjutant Phone: 301-842-2972 E-Mail: yeaklednl@myactv.net Earl (Tardy) Martin Sprecher, 80, of Williamsport, MD passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018, at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center. Thompson Funeral Home called me 1
and asked if we could give him Military Honors. On Friday March 23, 2018, our HONOR GUARD was privileged to give him Honors at 11 am at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Sick Call & Relief: On Sunday March 25 th Faye and I went to visit Bruce Cunningham and deliver his NEW Honor Guard jacket. Bruce is now out of the sling and can drive to therapy by himself, he will be doing therapy till the end of April. FYI: When I became Chaplain of Post 222 three years ago and was given the responsibility of the Honor Guard by Commander ED Clopper, I had a dream that one day we could be in some form of a Uniform. From a blessing from GOD this has come true. Thanks to Jim Hutson for his hard work. He and I had talked to some of the Honor Guard Members. Jim started to make calls and 17 men said YES and paid for their own jackets and Jim ordered three more, making a total of 20. The jackets were ordered from the 2018 Legion Catalog with the American Legion Insignia on the left front and JOS. C HERBERT Post 222 Honor Guard on the right front. I had my niece Courtney Burgan sew the U.S. Flag on the left arm and they look GREAT! I want to give a GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THAT MADE THIS HAPPEN. GOD BLESS you all for stepping forward and making this dream come true. We wore our NEW jackets for Earl Sprecher s Military Honors. May you all have a great EASTER and remember what this day means. May the LORD BLESS OUR LEGION FAMILY AND KEEP YOU ALL SAFE. From the Legion Auxiliary In His Service: Phil Burgan. Chaplain NOMINATI0NS: The floor is now open for nominations for the 2018/2019 year. Many of the trees around the Pavilion are in need of trimming and the annual afterwinter pickup of sticks and debris needs to be completed. Some of this work has been started, and the Cub Scouts who meet in our Activities Building have already given us some help. Work will consist of dragging brush and raking leaves to be burned. Tools needed are rakes and leaf blowers. DO NOT FORGET TO BRING GLOVES! Meet at the PAVILION for a sausage sandwich and coffee at 8:00 A.M. If anyone has some time to donate BEFORE the WORK DAY, give Dick Yeakle or Curt Kayser a call. If the sun is shining, there is usually someone working on some project. Any extra hands are appreciated!!!! Roddy Rohrer. 301-302-5575 From the Manager Well April has arrived. I don t know about you but I m ready for some sunny, warm days.
