بسم اهلل الرمحن الرحيم As-Sarf (Morphology) ~ Class Seven احلمد هلل رب العاملني وصلى اهلل وسلم وبارك على نبينا حممد وعلى آله وصحبه أمجعني, أما بعد Our teacher began with praising Allaah and sending salaat and salaam on the Messenger of Allaah, his family, companions and followers until the Last Day and began: REVIEW The forms of the م اض are of three What is meant by the word Maadh? The past Verb. Not the Past tense, because the technical meaning is asked and not the linguistic meaning. And that what concerns us is the Technical meaning. Even though the maadh meant linguistically the past tense, but it is used by the Scholars of Arabic Technically to express the verb which implies an act taking place in the past tense. To form what is called امل ض ار ع, we use امل اض ي as our template starting point. Turning from he did to he does Establishing The Principles Ustaad Fahd At-Tahiriyy As-Sarf 1

1- We add one of the letters of أ ن ي ت to the beginning of the verb. But ي in this case we add the letter 2- We give that added letter a fathah. 3-We silence the faa 4- We turn the fathah on the laam to a dhammah Example: The Arabs have combinations of the Past verb form with the Present verb form, which are Six: There are different ways that the Arabs speak and pronounce the verbs according to those different combinations. Establishing The Principles Ustaad Fahd At-Tahiriyy As-Sarf 2

There are Nine possible combinations (3 3), but the Arabs spoke of Only Six combinations (Chapters). NEW MATERIAL Examples of the Chapters: Chapter One: Bringing these three root letters to the scale ع ب د (past verb), it will become ف ع ل That means that you will not say ع ب د neither will you say ع ب د, because the Arabs didn t say it that way. Establishing The Principles Ustaad Fahd At-Tahiriyy As-Sarf 3

When we turn this Past verb into its Present verb, the only way we can say it is on the scale of.ي عب د, so we say ي فع ل ي عب د neither do you say ي عب د Here you don t say As هللا سبحانه وتعالى said: ال ذ ين ق ال وا إ ن الل ه ث ال ث ث ل ث ة و م ا م ن إ ل ه إ ل إ ل ه و اح د و إ ن ل ك ف ر ل ق د ك ف ر وا م ن ه م ع ذ اب أ ل يم ي نت ه وا ع م ا ي ق ول ون ل ي م س ن ال ذ ين Surely, disbelievers are those who said: Allah is the third of the three (in a Trinity). But there is no ilah (god) (none who has the right to be worshipped) but One Ilah (God -Allah). And if they cease not from what they say, verily, a painful torment will befall the disbelievers among them. [5:73] Establishing The Principles Ustaad Fahd At-Tahiriyy As-Sarf 4

ك ف ر ك ف ر وا (Maadh,with a fathah on the Ayn). ي ا أ ي ه ا ال ذ ين آم ن وا آم ن وا ب الل ه و ر س ول ه و ال ك ت اب ال ذ ي ن ز ل ع ل ى ر س ول ه ب الل ه و م ل ئ ك ت ه و ك ت ب ه و ر س ل ه و ال ي و م ي ك ف ر و ال ك ت اب ال ذ ي أ نز ل م ن ق ب ل و م ن ا ل خ ر ف ق د ض ل ض ل ل ب ع يد ا O you who believe! Believe in Allah, and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and the Book (the Quran) which He has sent down to His Messenger, and the Scripture which He sent down to those before (him), and whosoever disbelieves in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Last Day, then indeed he has strayed far away.[4:136] ي كف ر (Mudaari, with a dhammah on the Ayn) Chapter Two: This means that there are some verbs which follow this pattern this way of saying it. said: هللا سبحانه وتعالى الل ه م ث ل ق ر ي ة ك ان ت آم ن ة م ط م ئ ن ة ي أ ت يه ا ر ز ق ه ا ر غ د ا م ن ك ل م ك ان و ض ر ب ف ك ف ر ت ب أ ن ع م الل ه ف أ ذ اق ه ا الل ه ل ب اس ا ل وع و ا ل و ف ب ا ك ان وا ي ص ن ع ون Establishing The Principles Ustaad Fahd At-Tahiriyy As-Sarf 5

And Allah puts forward the example of a township (Makkah), that dwelt secure and well content; its provision coming to it in abundance from every place, but it (its people) denied the Favours of Allah (with ungratefulness). So Allah made it taste the extreme of hunger (famine) and fear, because of that (evil, i.e. denying Prophet Muhammad SAW) which they (its people) used to do. He sends down water (rain) from the sky, and the valleys flow according to their measure, but the flood bears away the foam that mounts up to the surface, and (also) from that (ore) which they heat in the fire in order to make ornaments or utensils, rises a foam like unto it, thus does Allah (by parables) show forth truth and falsehood. Then, as for the foam it passes away as scum upon the banks, while that which is for the good of mankind remains in the earth. But if you are ill or on a journey or any of you comes from answering the call of nature, or you have been in contact with women (i.e. sexual intercourse) and you find no water, then perform Tayammum with clean earth and rub therewith your faces and hands.
