First of all I would like to extend a very special Thank You to Tina for single handedly preparing 10 trays of her pasta dish, to Carlos for preparing the salad for Victory III, to Marcia and Tip from The Vet Store for making a huge donation to Victory III and helping with serving and clean up and to Bob who made a donation to Victory III of items his neighbor donated and some items the Girl Scouts collected. Saturday November 17 we were expecting to serve about 200 but I think there were only about 120 or 130 meals served including our volunteers. Commander JD presented to Bill Hoedebeck-Victory III Resource Coordinator, five $100 grocery cards from the Post. We also got to meet David Magee the recipient of a Jazzy scooter the ALR had donated. He was very excited at having it and explained how it has improved his life. I would like to thank the Post 91 Legionnaires, SAL, Auxiliary and ALR. We had 17 volunteers, 15 of which are Post members and 2 from The Vet Store. JD & Laura, Leo & Tina, Chuck & Sharon, Bob, Bill, John, Dave Sr, Ernie, Terry, Patty, Bill & Kathy and Marcia & Tip. 2 AMERICAN LEGION POST 91 DECEMBER 2012 NEWSLETTER Commander s Corner Post 91 Commander JD Geiser commander@azlegion91.org Welcome New & Transferring Legionnaire Members: Clyde Johnson Robert McKay Kenneth Scroggins Doby Snedigar David Witt We had a fantastic November. We had so many great things happen this month. I want to thank everyone for coming together and working towards making Post 91 great. Because of your help, we were able to donate $5000 to Wounded Warrior Project. This is a big deal for being a small post. We had a terrific turnout for our Veteran s Day celebration. Spending the day with fellow Veteran s and friends, with a good meal, made for a magnificent day. We had a special visitor, The Saluting Marine, Staff Sergeant Tim Chambers. He spoke about his experiences and goals for promoting Americanism, Patriotism, and Veteran s Awareness. He also spent time talking and signing autographs for all who attended. The ALR, Auxiliary, Legionnaires, and SAL all agreed, in a very short time frame, to donate $100 each ($400 total) to Staff Sergeant Chambers for his endeavors. We had a fun time serving dinner to the Veteran s residing at Victory III. They provide low cost housing for Veteran s of all ages. The guys and gals were very appreciative that we made dinner for them, and that we made time to talk and hang out with them. We also gave them $500 in gift certificates to buy food for the holidays, and there still is a strong need for food and supplies. There will be many more projects coming in the future to look forward to. See your entity leaders to volunteer. If I don t see you before then, I wish all of the Post 91 Family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. For God and Country JD Geiser Commander, Post 91 Auxiliary Announcements Auxiliary President Kathy McMartin alapresident@azlegion91.org Welcome New & Transferring Auxiliary Members: Jackie Egan Robyn Krumwiede Amber Nelson Lrylah Roelker LeAnn Taylor MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL I want to take this time to wish a very Merry Christmas to all of our Legion family members. Let us not forget our Military personnel that are away from their families during this Holiday Season. Thank you for all the donations for the VA home for the Goodie bags and personal hygiene items for the Department Presidents special project. These items will be taken to Fall Conference to be combined with other Units donations then to the JUSTA Center for distribution. Our Auxiliary worked with S.A.L. members to serve 80 Veterans steak dinner on Sunday, November 10 in honor of Veterans Day. Thank you to all of our Veterans all over the world. CVS Pharmacy came to the Post to give Flu shots on Sunday Nov 10. Next year we will have the Flu shot event earlier in the year. We will be decorating our Post for Christmas on Saturday morning Dec 1st. The Post will be open at 9:30 A.M. for us. Please come help decorate and enjoy the fun. Later that evening the Post will be hosting the Early Bird dinner. Woofstock was a great success. Kathy Pless did an excellent job of putting it all together. Barbara White is, again this year, selling Village Inn Pie Cards. The cost of the card is $11.00 - a portion of that goes to our Auxiliary for Girls State. You will be buying pies for the Holidays anyway so get your card now and support your Auxiliary. We have 4 girls to support this year. Each girl is $250.00. Please help support this worthwhile program. Contact Barbara for more information @480-732-0372 or 602-908-2980. The Auxiliary is always in need of funds. The Post voted to give the Auxiliary the fund raiser of a raffle for a 20 foot Flag Pole with an American Flag and a POW Flag. We will only sell 60 tickets at $10.00 each. (continued on page4)

Gary Barros is taking the lead on this project and has already begun the process of trying If you feel you can help and volunteer some of your time to help support any local charities during the Christmas season I Legion Riders News A.L.R. President Dave Andersen president@azlegion91alr.org THWR (That s How We Roll) Welcome New & Transferring A.L.R. Members: No new members Let me start out by saying that the last 30 days has been an extremely busy time with a lot of ALR charity rides and events going on. In October alone there were over 12 events so we had to decide what members would go to what events, divide and conquer we called it. In all we logged over 4000 Miles in rides and donated over $1060 during these events. I want to thank Bill Pless our Road Captain for keeping us all together and informed during this busy time. Remember our ALR Website has all of the upcoming events listed on it, if you are curious feel free to visit the ALR Post 91 Website at http://azlegion91alr.org We also had our ALR Raffle Bike on display at some of our local businesses selling Raffle Tickets. Thanks to John Nevins for coordinating these events with the local Business Owners. Some of these local business that have been really great to us in helping us sell Bike Raffle tickets are: Final Round in Tempe, Jolies in Chandler, Pub and Grub in Tempe, Dukes Sports Grill in Scottsdale, Bogeys Bar and Grill in Tempe and Mad Dogs in Mesa. We really appreciate the hospitality that these Business hosts gave us as Veterans, the exposure of the American Legion Riders and what we represent, Thank you! At the time of this writing I am happy to report that almost all 300 Bike Raffle tickets have been sold and if you didn t get your ticket, well there s always next year. It was with much dedication and hard work that many of the ALR and Legion members helped to make this raffle a success. I want to recognize John Nevins and Terry Schroeder as they battled it out to win the Top Gun position in ticket sales. For a couple of guys not in the sales business they sure sold the bulk of these tickets! Congratulations to both, we will announce the actual Top Gun winner between the two of them (continued on page4)
