The match will be ISU s first in ten days as they had a luxurious week and a half off to rest and heal injured players. The Wolverines are on a three-match losing streak and are 1-3 on the road, posting a 1-5 record away from home. The game will be broadcast on KISU 91.1 FM and can also be followed on the Internet via the ISU athletic website. About is nearly halfway through their season and have already matched their win record from last season with three. ISU heads into its second home competition of the season with a win under its belt as the Bengals defeated Wyoming 2-1 for the program s first victory over the Cowgirls. The win also snapped a three-game losing streak for the Bengals. This season the Bengals have posted eight goals this season led by freshman Ashley Jones who has recorded three including a game-winner. Two is the Magic Number All of s contests have been won by scoring two goals either by the Bengals or by the opponent. ISU has scored at least one goal in every contest but two as they fell 2-0 to New Mexico and Maine. Magic Touch of Strawn and Jones Fans may start yelling, Give the ball to Strawn! as the freshman s touch has produced four assists in seven games this season. She averages.571 assists per game to lead the best all-time assists per game record for a career and second best for a season in ISU history currently. Strawn isn t the only player who has had a magic type touch as Ashley Jones has recorded three goals in her freshman season. Her goals per game average, currently set at.429 is the second most in ISU history for a career. She also posts the third best points per game average for a career with.857. If these freshman can continue to post goals and assists consistently throughout their careers they may prove to be some of ISU s best players in program history, but only time will tell. Ryan s gamewinning goal snapped an three-game losing streak and handed the Bengals its first program victory over Wyoming on Sunday. Lauren Ryan Pg. 2 Soccer Game Notes University 2009 Ryan s first game-winning goal of her career was scored with 3:31 remaining in the second period off a throw-in where she heeled the ball into the back of the net. Ryan played all 90 minutes of the contest and posted three shots, all of which were on goal. Her goal was the sixth of her career and her second of the season. The honor is s first Big Sky player of the week honor this season. The last Bengal to be awarded Player of the Week was Maren Eves-Williams last season on Oct. 6 when she received the Defensive Player Award. Injuries Cause Bengals to Stay on the Field With numerous injuries reducing the Bengal bench healthy players have been needed to maintain their position on the field for longer durations. With roughly 15 players available of a roster of 23 total, (three players are out for the season due to injury and health issues, while others are in-and-out injuries) and with seven of those players playing in 80-plus minutes a contest, only increases chance for injury. However with the week off the Bengals have been able to rest and recoup its athletes. ISU s injury to back-up keeper Kat Ford, who sustained an injury during practice, had the Bengals warming up Laura Perez in the keeper position at the Governor s Cup. Perez had played in the keeper position her first few years of club soccer, but the Bengals have yet to need her to step in as Williams continues to be healthy. Williams Saves in Goal Standing at 5 5 sophomore Bailey Williams will do just about anything to make a save, even if it means bodily destruction, which it has come to a few times. Williams effort has placed her fourth for the most saves in conference with 30 and fourth in saves per game with 4.29 for the season. Williams season save percentage places her seventh in the all-time list and fifth in the career all-time list with 4.20. ISU vs. Home State Utah The Bengals have 10 players who call their home state Utah including: Alex Hansen (Wellsville, UT), Ashley Askwig (Salt Lake City, UT), Megan Stainbrook (South Jordan, UT), Ashley Jones (Draper, UT), Amber Worthen (Syracuse, UT), Krisha Read (Ogden, UT), Rachel Strawn (Clinton, UT, Morgan Olson (Logan, UT), Jana Davis-Boehler (Provo, UT), and Karissa Henage-Fisher (Springville, UT) Ashley Jones Bailey Williams Notable Big Sky Stats posts the fourth best goals per game average of 1.14 in the Big Sky Conference as they have recorded eight goals in seven games. ISU post the third best corner kicks per game average with 4.29 as they have recorded 30 corner kicks in seven games. Jones is tied for third most goals in the conference with three goals, while Strawn posts the second most assists in the Big Sky with four as NAU s Brenna Boies has posted five. However, Strawn s average per game beats Boise as Strawn averages 0.57 assists per game.

2009 BENGAL SOCCER GAME NOTES Change Continues and it Benefits ISU Change continues for the Bengal soccer formation as players have been moved all around the field. Most recently the Bengals have moved defenders Kacey Ball and Megan Stainbrook from the back to the front lines and it paid off as Ball and Stainbrook have scored their first career goals. Stainbrook opened against Wyoming with a goal in the first 1:54 of the contest. Ball scored her first career goal against Boise State in the Governor s Cup. Previously, ISU has seen senior Christina Beseris who served as a defender her freshman through junior seasons make a move up into the midfield. In ISU s contest against Maine Hofstetter played in the forward position during the first period. She usually competes in the midfielder and returned for the second period. changed up their system against Maine from a 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 formation and have continued to implement it. On this Date: September 23rd ISU is 1-0 for contests on September 23, the last time ISU had a game on this date was in 2007 when Natalie Graham led ISU to a 1-0 victory over Air Force on a penalty kick at the Classic held at Davis Field. It will be head coach Allison Gibson s second contest on this date. Other important occurrences on this date in history include the birth of Caesar Augustus in 63 B.C., the birth of Victoria Chaflin Woodhull in 1838 who was the first female candidate for the U.S. Presidency, the formation of The Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of New York in 1845 for America s first baseball team, and the premier of The Jetsons on ABC-TV in 1962 to be the first program on the network to be carried in color. About Utah Valley Utah Valley received its official NCAA Division I status in July as the NCAA Membership Services voted a unanimous approval lift of provisional status. The move completes the University s unprecedented move straight from NJCAA to NCAA athletics. The Soccer program currently posts a 1-7-0 record having only defeated UTEP in the regular season on the road to give them a 1-3-0 road record. They are currently 1-5-0 off their home field. Oddly enough the Wolverines started their season unofficially strong as they posted two exhibition victories including a 5-1 contest over Weber State. Utah Valley is on a three-game losing streak having fallen to Southern Utah at home, UC Irvine and UC Riverside at Riverside. The team has been shutout of four contests, and most recently in its last two contests. Last season they were undefeated with a 5-0 in the United Soccer Conference and return 19 letterwinners and seven starters. UVU did lose Jenni Clough who led the team in almost all offensive stats including all-time career points for UVU with 71. The Wolverines post a.042 shot percentage and a.427 shot on goal percentage. Wolverine Standouts This season the Wolverines have four separate players who have scored a goal each: Nicole Archibald, Kendra Buchanan, Brianne Larsen, and Athena Maher. Buchanan leads the point race with three as she posted an assist and posts a.636 shot on goal percentage. UVU has played its two keepers equally as Hailey Brown and Tasha Bell have played 360 minutes each. However, Bell earned Player of the Week Honors with the Great West Conference this season for her performance against UTEP. Bell posts a 2.50 goals against average while Brown posts a 2.00. Series Info and Last Meeting with Utah Valley leads the series 3-0-2 having defeated Utah Valley in 2003, 2005 and 2006 when they were Utah Valley State College. The team s last meeting resulted in a 0-0 double overtime tie at Clyde Field, UVU s home. Both of ISU s ties occurred at Clyde field, with the first tie occurring in 2004 with a 1-1 contest. Bengals Selected 7th in Preseason Poll was selected seventh in the 2009 Big Sky Preseason Poll when they received 15 points from coaches votes. Weber State was selected first with 48 points receiving six first place votes. HOFSTETTER CORNER Hofstetters Missed First Career Start Hofstetter played and started in all 63 games she was in for, except for one as she did not start against Boise State. Hofstetter became ill the night before and though she did not start she did compete for 49 minutes to help shift momentum for ISU s goal at the 59:43 mark before she was taken out to rest. Hofstetter is back to 100% as she played 90 minutes against Wyoming and posted two shots with one on goal. Hof On Target Hofstetter has posted four games with a.700 attack percentage or better, her season-high is a.733 percentage against both Idaho and Boise State. Hof has posted two solid efforts of.667 and.692 against New Mexico State and Maine. She has only one contest with a.000 shot on goal percentage as she took just one shot against New Mexico in the Bengals season opener. Correction Made in Hof s Favor: Excels against SUU s game-winning goal against Southern Utah was recorded as a Southern Utah own goal, when Hofstetter s free kick shot was on goal and was deflected off a defender s hand before going past the keeper and into the net. The shot was appealed by ISU officials and has been recorded as a goal. It is Hofstetter s second of her career. Her only other goal was a the game-winner in a 6-1 victory over Southern Utah her freshman year. Both of her goals have been game-winners against Southern Utah. Her first goal was just her second career game. In the Hof... Hofstetter holds s all-time career assists record in program history. She has increased her count to 21 as she assisted on ISU s game-tying goal against Southern Utah. She needs just two more assists to hold the Big Sky Conference all-time career record to overcome Katie McCoy of Sacramento State who posted 22 from 2004-07. Head Coach Allison Gibson... We are looking forward to Utah Valley, being home for a second time in eight games is going to be a welcomed change for us. We ve been working on some things, changed some things around, changed players around, but we ve kind of found a good formla the last couple games. So hopefully we will prevail on Wendesday... We are going to try and go at them with speed and tenacity all over the field. 2009 University Soccer Game Notes Pg.

Allison Gibson enters her fourth season as the head coach at University. In her first season with the Bengals, Gibson reestablished the soccer tradition at, leading the Bengals to both a Big Sky Conference regular season title and a tournament championship. The tournament title earned the Bengals an automatic bid to the NCAA College Cup, where the team nearly upset 11th-ranked Utah on its home field, falling 3-2 in double overtime. Under Gibson s direction, 13 Bengals landed spots on the All-Conference First and Second place teams with eight earning honorable mention. Five Bengals have earned places on the Big Sky All-Tournament team. On her watch, 27 Bengals also received Big Sky All-Academic honors. Gibson was named Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year for her accomplishments during the 2006 season and has had one of her players, Lyndsay Gensler, earn Big Sky Tournament MVP in 2006. During the 2007 season Gibson posted a 7-5-6 record. Gibson tied the record for the fewest losses in a season. Unfortunately a string of ties, that set the record for most tied games in a season, kept the Bengals from the Big Sky Conference tournament by one point. Gibson is the only coach in history to have an undefeated home season in 2007 and posts the longest home undefeated streak in ISU history with 13 games from 2006-08. Gibson also serves the soccer community in numerous roles outside of college athletics. She served as the head coach of the U-17 Olympic Development Program team marking the seventh year that the coach has been involved in the program. Gibson came to after a five-year stint as the top assistant at the University of San Francisco of the West Coast Conference, considered one of the nation s best soccer conferences. While serving as an assistant for the Dons, Gibson also served as a head coach in the Region IV Olympic Development Program, for the past seven years. At USF, Gibson handled all matters of coaching, including practice planning, travel, scouting, recruiting and USF summer camps. She also developed a leadership workshop for student-athletes. USF s best season was the 2004 campaign, where the Dons went 10-7-3 despite a schedule that included regional and national powerhouses such as the University of Portland and Utah. Gibson has definitely seen the best the nation has to offer, as in her last year San Francisco played the nation s toughest schedule, facing 10 teams that qualified for the NCAA College Cup in 2005, including national champion Portland and North Carolina. Gibson is highly decorated as a player, leading Sonoma State University to a pair of NCAA College Cup appearances, including the Final Four in 1992, and a Final Eight appearance in 1993. She led the Cossacks to a pair of Northern California Athletic Conference championships, earning NCAC Player of the Year both in 1992 and 1993, while leading SSU to a 31-9 composite record. She also earned All-America honors both years from the National Soccer Coaches Association of American. In 2000, Gibson was inducted into Sonoma State s Hall of Fame She then became an assistant coach at SSU, helping the Cossacks to a 29-6-1 record over the next two seasons, and two more postseason trips. Ironically, SSU s volunteer coach for the 1995 season was Gordon Henderson, who served as very first head coach from 1998-2003. Gibson later went on to play professionally in Japan for three seasons with the Fujita Mercury before returning to the United States, where she worked as the Director of Coaching of the Youth Girls for the Colorado Rush Soccer Club in Denver. Return of Familar Face... has added a familar face to the Bengals roster as Jana Davis- Boeher returns to the pitch. Originally she decided not to play in her final season of eligibility as she was finishing her undergraduate degree after the 2008 season and had plans to attend a physicians assistant program at either or a school in Utah. 2009 BENGAL SOCCER GAME NOTES Last season she related the idea that even though she had redshirted in 2006 due to an injury, she felt like she had played her four years. But the soccer bug has bit her again as she is back at in the physicians assistant program and and back on the field for the Bengals. However, she won t be wearing her #12 jersey because freshman Ashley Jones has already made her stamp on the number scoring her first career and game winning goal in her second match as a Bengal against New Mexico State. She is a player that truly loves the game and though her schedule is similar to a full-time work schedule, she will make time to train with Quigley, a former Bengal and teammate with Davis-Boehler who is helping with the team for class credit, and compete in a few games for the Bengals as school is her main priority. Even with that being said, Davis-Boehler will be a welcomed addition to the Bengal squad as she has posted six goals and five assists over her career as well as recording three game-winning goals in 2007. In 2008, Davis-Boehler competed in 11 games for ISU after hurting her knee in the Bengals season opening 2-1 victory over Utah State. She worked hard at her recovery and was back in the starting lineup by October to finish out the season strong. She also led the Bengals during a 3-1 victory over Sacramento State at home as she scored the first goal from a penalty kick. Head coach Allison Gibson gave Davis-Boehler the #21 as it is her former #12 backward. She saw 42 minutes of play against Maine in her first contest back on the field. Though she did not post any shots she did help perpetuate the Bengal s late push in the second half and ended up entangled with Maine s keeper Meagan Price-Leibenzeder several times. Her fitness level was top notch in her return. 2009 University Soccer Game Notes Pg.
